Vintage set of the week: Building Set
Posted by Huwbot,
This week's vintage set is 115 Building Set, released during 1973. It's one of 11 Universal Building Set sets produced that year. It contains 190 pieces.
It's owned by 68 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Yep, that's what it is.
Aren't they all?
Yes, that's what... LEGO means.
Is it callled that because it's a set that you build, or a set of a building?
The airplane propeller: ‘nice part usage’ of a wheel and bricks.
With no bracket at that time, it’s probably one of the first set where not all the studs (except wheel ones) are on top.

Wheel studs were being used to build from as soon as wheels were released in 1963! 318-1
Classic before there was Classic.
This is why we have a 90th anniversary.
First set I ever got; bought new for me by a family member when I was 4 or 5. The box is long gone but I still have all the parts and I remember the main cover photo quite vividly.
The ultimate name for most sets.
(Yelling at the 'driver' in the yellow car) "GET OUTTA THERE, THE GIANT'S BEHIND YOU!!!"...
Still not unconvinced this isn't "Lego: Attack on Titan"...prove me wrong: Giants and...where are 'the people'...:)

If it’s the latter then they were clearly breaking the rules making a plane out of it! Buildings only!
Another one I have (well it's EU/UK/AUS variant) - that brings the score to 12 out of 27 featured so far I have in my collection.
It should be called "Brick Set".
Love how the propellor of the airplane is just a simple studded wheel re-use.
It wasn't until a year later in 1974 when the vertical propellor piece/holder were introduced.

Ooh, a flat-rod.
@Formendacil:
Brick separators?
@brick_r:
The people are…IN MAH BELLEH!!!!!!!
I never owned any of the universal building sets. I never liked them, to many 2 stud wide bricks.
Just pure classic goodness!
And so much better than nowadays 4+ sets with lost of highly specialized parts that so much limit the possibilities of creating something different from it.
@PurpleDave: Um, PD...I don't know if eating that many...um 'manifigs' (given the 'time period') is such a good idea...hmmm...would stomach acid be strong even to break down Lego-plastic? I know (via work) glass and plastic are the most common substances hold that stuff, but the latter has to be a specific grade...and if they don't 'break down', they have to be 'passed'; which is whooooole other set of problems...:D
