Random set of the day: Soil Scooper
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 1876 Soil Scooper, released during 1990. It's one of 28 Town sets produced that year. It contains 65 pieces and 2 minifigs.
It's owned by 856 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Pooper Scooper: Industrial Edition.

It's what they use in Jurassic Park.
I don't remember this set at all, but the number would indicate it was a limited release or, more likely for the 90s, part of a larger pack.

Those workers are too happy for that kind of work. Just look at those big smiles!
Opinion excavator
How things have changed: these days who sees construction workers stand around an unused machine while holding shovels and talking?
The more common variant of this set was yellow. This red one was only included in 1675-1, which is ultimate nostalgia fuel.

Darnnit, came in here to make that exact joke
So (night)soil scooper?
I don’t like the way Paulie is looking at Tony, like he’s just figured out that the easiest way to get promoted is to create a job opening. And then bury his predecessor with that convenient earth-mover.
Well, it's not a helicopter; the RPotD wasn't predictive.
At first, I was surprised that I hadn't listed this set as owned, because I was pretty sure I had it. Then I saw that it was in a multi-pack that I did own.

I just picked up a used 1875 and 1877 at my friend's Bricks and Minifigs store. I bet there's an 1876 somewhere in the lot he bought.

We have two tractors (a 70HP Deere 5400 from 1996 and a 38HP Deere 3038e from 2014); and ironically, cleaning manure out of a barn is the smaller tractor's main use.

Have you ever seen Dirty Jobs? The people that do that type of work often find enjoyment in what they do and love their careers. I hear the pay can be pretty good sometimes, too, since it isn't the most desirable work, yet is a necessary task for the community to function.
Ah...the 'point in time' when TLG (or its precursor) started to start 'figuring out' (pun ironic) how combine/improve vehicle with the minifigure. I mean: I have one of the earlier versions of this...no roof, no side protection, and only one worker; so no one to give directions...this is a good improvement:)
I miss sets like this. It's a really good front end loader/tractor, good size for minifigs. Those minifig prints are also really good good, nice and generic can be used across multiple themes and eras.
I also really like (and miss) that scoop piece. It was a good size and I wish Lego still made different sizes of buckets. These days they are all the one size which is far too large for many situations.

They’re debating which of them has to do the athletics required to actually clamber into the machine :D
Either that or neither of them have the right ticket to qualify them to drive it but that’s the boring answer
I loved looking out for Town sets with 1xxx numbers as a kid in the early 1990s, it was pretty much guaranteed that they weren't listed in the lego catalogues of the era. I picked up the Bank in a John Lewis store, the black Helicopter/Motorcycle combo in Woolworths, and nearly went for the Trauma Team one summer in Canada, though decided against it and regretted it ever since (with hindsight its not actually that great a set but don't think it had a European release).
I soiled the good Krusty Krab name! Soiled it! Soiled it! Soiled it!
Had as a kid newer version from 1992, 6662 Good times
These two guys need to smell what they're shovelin'.
A 10-year update on 542 street crew with the same spade and hard hats, but missing the street sign and pick-axe (see inventory). Compared to the earlier 6658 from 1986 this digger reminds me of a farm tractor.
My brother and I had this set as kids - a really nice little build! Thanks for the nostalgia! :)
Heavily influenced by the excellent Blizzard Blazer 6524 from two years earlier.

I think you might have overlooked the first part of Murdoch 17's post ;-)

I have seen it litterally for the last 4 months, and they haven't fixed the road I live on yet...
This is still a lot nicer then some of the more recent small cabin tractors imo.
60287: Tractor is great but a lot bigger.
@Martin_S:
Hey, someone has to keep that shovel from falling over and becoming a tripping hazard!
Would look better a red scoop. Or maybe a black one.
