Random set of the day: Chainsaw Bulldozer
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 1275 Chainsaw Bulldozer, released during 1999. It's one of 13 Rock Raiders sets produced that year. It contains 22 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 190 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Circular Saw Buggy
Two more saws and you can transplant General Grievous in it.
Bandit on radio: "Yeah listen mate, two saws just ain't gonna cut it for this job. You get me a third saw and we'll be laughing - power crystals are on me"

I read this with an Australian accent, and then saw your name. Of course.
You keep using this word “chainsaw”. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Not exactly a "chainsaw". However, Husqvarna invented the cutoff saw in 1968 using their popular chainsaw model as a base.

People I know who are in EMS-Rescue and fire call it a "K-12" (after Partner's K-12 model; now produced by Husqvarna as the fire/rescue specific model); those in the construction trade call it a chop saw. The technical term I see on them at my Stihl dealer is "cutoff saw".

I don't think they know what a bulldozer is
@cody6268:
To me, a chop saw is a circular saw mounted on a spring-loaded hinge over a small table. You line up the piece you want to cut, pull the trigger, and pull the saw down to complete the cut. Release the trigger and handle, and the saw will raise back up out of the way.
The new Chainsaw Bulldozer, brought to you by the marketing team behind “Grape-Nuts.”
@legodachi:
That, too.
@CarolinaOnMyMind:
In their defense, like nuts, they stay crunchy in milk. Anyways, from Wikipedia:
“According to the Grape-Nuts website, Grape-Nuts ‘actually contains neither grapes nor nuts’. The name may have come from the cereal's resemblance to grape seeds, or from its nutty flavor; C. W. Post may also have intended it to refer to its content of glucose, which Post called ‘grape sugar.’"

Chainsaw murder ATV.
In Russian accent: "I see your..."vehicle", and...raise you 7626 "
But yes: those ain't chainsaws...
The Jungle Cutter before it was cool.
Neither of those descriptors are accurate…
This was obviously the Rock Raiders entry for Robot Wars.
They probably got knocked out in the first round.
Fun fact: this little set has official combiners with each of the other Kabaya vehicles. And they all combine into one monstrosity of a vehicle as well.
Not bad for... this thing.
Especially since it wasn't even released outside of Japan!
"Wow, this looks like a piece of crap, I wonder if... yes, 1999, that makes sense."
To be fair to the name (and to the design), this was a Kabaya freebie set, so the English name here is quite likely a very mangled translation, as is the case with some other such sets. Although Bricklink calls it "Chain Dozer", which isn't much better.
Still, it's Rock Raiders, therefore I like it on principle. Though I've no idea why Bandit's the one driving this thing; he's the sailor of the team, so I feel like his set should really have been a watercraft of some kind...
@bookmum:
I don’t think you’re allowed to ride on your entry. And having watched one robot kiss the ceiling _twice_ during a match in last month’s BattleBots: Champions, I don’t think you’d want to. Plus, there were a couple that caught on fire, got thrown clear across the arena, got broken in half…
@Binnekamp:
Japan, huh? That explains a lot.
@ThatBionicleGuy:
Someone decided the name wasn’t accurate enough and decided to drop “saw”, but keep “chain”?

No criticisms of 1999 or Rock Raiders will be tolerated in this comments section!
Not by me, anyway.

Or a plane.
This is how they _____ in Japan!
Ah, Rock Raiders, the mining theme with crystals, rock monsters, and gritty minifig designs. Yes, Power Miners - The best Lego sets ever.
Wait a second...

For whatever it's worth, the original Japanese name of this set is "???????? [chendoza]", which directly translates to "Chain Dozer" according to Google Translate. "Chainsaw" is apparently "?????? [chenso]" and "bulldozer" is apparently "?????? [burudoza]", so this does make BrickLink's translation more accurate while Brickset's translation adds some additional fluff.
Note, of course, that I don't speak a word of Japanese and Google Translate has no idea what it's talking about half the time, so take it all with a grain of salt.
EDIT: Darn, looks like the Japanese characters get rendered as "????????" when I try posting them in a comment. So I'll just link to Brickipedia's article, which provide the name: https://brickipedia.fandom.com/wiki/1275_Chain_Dozer
