But the box art clearly depicts some sort of asphalt, i.e. road.

Look, it's 42149 : Monster Jam Dragon ancestor from 15 years ago

Just a whole lot of similarities between those 2 sets.
Colors (green/red/black) , flame stickers, metallic tubes, pullback motor, parts count and even USD price at the time.

Oh wow. I can see that too.

@MCLegoboy:
It also shows a "CRASH", so clearly the driver just smashed through a guard rail.

Actually it's supposed to have panels that fly off in a crash, so that comic book-style wording is related to that.

...Either that, or this is Seconds from Disaster and it's going to go through the guardrail and onto the neighboring train tracks, dislodging a rail and shortly thereafter causing a major accident on a high-speed rail line. Either way....

CRASH!! POW! BANG!!.. Apparently Batman time traveled from '66 to get into the driver seat of this bad boy.

By in Norway,

I have this set tagged as a "monster truck" - anyone agree/disagree…?

By in United Kingdom,

Not a great review for either your off-roader or its driver that apparently the very second it leaves the road it crashes

@Brickalili:
No, no, it leaves the road _by_ crashing. It’s a design feature. “The Road Less Crashventured” or something.

Agreed

Wow, two 2007 sets in a row!

I like this one. The 2007 racers came with built-in crashing features, but the two large vehicles came with an extra deluxe mechanism. With those when the bumper hits something it will knock off not only the hood but also the side panels.

@Jacopyright: Well, considering the already noted similarities to 42149, it's pretty obvious.

By in Turkey,

I have a couple Racers sets from previous year. They are in my parts bin but this theme always had exciting and fun sets. I wish I had collected some of the Tiny Turbos.

Ah, but (at least) the rear wheels appear to be in the air; hence, off the road!

I remember really wanting this set when I was a kid, but I didn't have any money back then...

“Where we’re going, we don’t need roads!”
“And where is that, exactly?”
“Off-road!”

A system set with Technic panels is something that doesn't often happen, with a system pull back motor thrown in.
