Review: 40615 Tusken Raider
Posted by CapnRex101,
22 memorable Star Wars characters have been portrayed in BrickHeadz form, including classic Original Trilogy heroes alongside those created more recently. 40615 Tusken Raider is perhaps an unexpected addition to the range, although appears remarkably detailed.
Moreover, those details are actually assembled rather than relying on printed elements, which often distinguishes the best BrickHeadz, so I expect to be impressed with this Tusken Raider.
Summary
40615 Tusken Raider, 152 pieces.
£9.99 / $9.99 / €9.99 | 6.6p / 6.6c / 6.6c per piece.

The Completed Model
Characters with interesting costumes are usually best-suited to BrickHeadz and Tusken Raiders certainly satisfy that preference. Their tattered robes and intimidating masks are recognisable even in this blocky form, brilliantly blending studs and smooth tiles for texture. The figure contrasts nicely against its black base too, consisting almost entirely of earthy tan and brown shades.
Tusken Raiders require specialised equipment to survive in the barren Dune Sea, including their vital breathing filter, which is neatly constructed using a 1x2 jumper plate and dark brown 1x1 plate attached upside down. The cylindrical moisture trap underneath looks superb as well, while pearl silver Technic connectors are used to excellent effect as hollow lenses.
Furthermore, the spines on the Tusken's head are represented by light bluish grey 1x1 round plates with bars, each angled outwards. The combination of these metallic details with dark tab plates, tiles and curved slopes forming fabric bandages is very successful. The only decorated parts are actually reddish brown 1x1 tiles which depict pouches on the chest. They could prove versatile and reappear on other BrickHeadz.
The figure carries a gaderffi and a reddish brown musket is clipped on its back, representing a cycler rifle. The same element was used when Tusken Raider minifigures first appeared in 7113 Tusken Raider Encounter. Otherwise, the back is less detailed than the front, but still presents a nice mixture of studded and smooth surfaces.
Overall
Tusken Raiders and their culture have been explored in greater depth than ever before recently, most notably in The Book of Boba Fett. Considering their recent prominence and the quality of this figure, 40615 Tusken Raider was actually a better choice for a BrickHeadz design than I had envisaged. The texture across the mask is particularly appealing and unique among BrickHeadz.
In fact, I think the Tusken Raider rivals 40539 Ahsoka Tano as the best Star Wars BrickHeadz produced to date. The standard price of £9.99, $9.99, €9.99 remains reasonable too, so I can definitely recommend adding this Tatooinian native to your BrickHeadz collection!

I was sold on this at a quick glance, but "Cons: N/A" is always a compelling review!
This is the first Brickheadz I've looked forwards to, and will join my small collection of Mando, Baby Yoda and Vader as soon as it's released. Helmeted or masked characters actually suit this format!
I really like this!
We need a Jawa with a light brick.
A brickheadz I actually love! The 1x1 pockets are adorable.
This turned out to be a much better looking set than I had expected. I love the 1x1 pouch and see a lot of uses for that in mocs.
I will say tho this was an odd choice of figure given how many prominent Star Wars figures still have yet to me made as Brickheadz.
Maybe not ‘Best BrickHeadz Ever’ but easily top 3 in ‘Most Clever Brickheadz Ever’!

I always try to include something in both columns, but could not find anything wrong with the Tusken Raider!
Now, where is my Episode 2 Anakin?

They're easily startled?
I really like it!
Is it exclusive to LEGO shop, or will it be available generally - 'cause I would be likely to pick this up on a whim (even though I've said to myself no more Lego...)
This is what greebles were made for.

They also ride single file, to hide their numbers, so they are difficult to find in stores.
Those pocket tiles would be good for an Indiana Jones figure, or maybe Johnny Thunder?

Those make interesting backpacks for the minifigures, and the musket is an updated piece if I do say so myself.

They will soon be back and in greater numbers
Glad to see as single packs rather than paired with another character, although tempted to buy a few as more cinematic. For negatives maybe there should be a 2nd clip on his back, with both clips in dark brown not grey.

Actually, two light bricks: yellow for Tatooine Jawas, red for Arvala-7 Jawas.
What we need is a 40548 style set for all the Bad Batch! I tried custom making it but I couldn't work out how to do Crosshair's face, so I ended up making Omega instead.
This will make a fine addition to my collection!
I don't own any, but have always considered myself a Brickheadz fan, or at least an admirer. But the moment I saw this I thought it was the best one they've ever done, and I'm not sure I've changed my mind. It's great.
That might turn out to be the most versatile 1x1 tile they've ever produced.
I’m not really a fan of Brickheadz, but I must have this one!
Rivals Ahsoka huh? That is high praise indeed. She is my favourite Brickheadz build so far.
