Random set of the day: (Unnamed)
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 1742 (Unnamed), released during 1994. It's one of 29 Town sets produced that year. It contains 81 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 173 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

So random it doesn't even have a name.
Lots of stuff clipped to the outside of this one!
Part of the Brick-ness Relocation Program.
He's been through the desert in a set with no name.
Noname huh? How can you traveling guy go through life and have "Noname". I mean what do people call them then "hey you" LOL
Closest we’ll ever get to a set based on Leone’s Dollars Trilogy: Set with no name in a desert. Gives off some western vibes.

La la, la la la la la...
Man look at all that nothing he just can’t wait to film :D
Monument to the unnamed set. Life can be unfair.

You have to find purpose in life by yourself. Anything that makes you happy and doesn't harm others is okay.
No wonder Random Set of the Day was late. Huwbot had to go rummaging down the back of the cupboard for this one.
Ah, pure early '90s bliss.
Too bad the guy is filming behind his shoulder...
The server went offline at 2am, probably doing an update or something, so I had to manually kick off the process to post this when it was noticed.
Fitting name of the set for today! :-)
This is part of one of them fancy 'value packs'. It has no name because it's part of set 1720.
Where the sets have no name! Where the sets have no name! There's still building yeah building the rest. Building the rest.
And when I go there. I'll go with another two. It's all I can do.
Seriously though, they all share the same instruction booklet. They're inseparable.
Nice little set. I've a soft spot for these 4 wide Land Rover/Jeep utility vehicles. I especially like the roof-rack on this one, although I'd be tempted to swap out the wheels for something more like the earlier 6672 for a more 80s feel.
I’ve seen almost every Set of the Day for the past 4-5 years, and I don’t recall ever seeing a set without a name, until today!
I have this, and it is one of my favorite when I was a kid

It's the first one of five we have listed as unnamed to be picked

He's in the process of turning the camera to his nose and saying "I'm sorry... so sorry.. ..."

Thanks Confucius!

Three of those are from this value pack. Surprisingly, the other two are Space sets!

The query you refer to does not agree? (24/7/19 and 8/3/22)
If I looked like this set, I’d probably want to keep my name a secret, too.
@VintageDude:
That is clearly a laser cannon that has a VHS cassette taped to the side to make it look like a video camera. Dude’s clearly in the wet work business.
Oh boy (unnamed)! My favorite set is (unnamed), it has such exquisite detail, I’m so happy lego decided to make (unnamed). (unnamed) battle pack anyone?
@SideSalad: Darn you. Now that song is running through my head.

I've been through the desert on a set with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can't remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La la la la la la...
I love this vehicle. It's my favorite style of 4x4, I love the windows, the rack, and all the extras. Such a good outback vehicle and the design is just classic. Shame they never sold it individually. I'd love to find a few more of them, or make some in other colors.
Unnamed and arriving late. Truly a man of mystery
This set has a name, but it is so classified only the Lego Chairman and President are allowed to know it.
This set is not a number. It's a free van.

That must be why he's pointing the video camera at his own face!
@omnius:
Selfies in the days of Max Headroom.
I must comment on this so a to not break my streak. I don't know how long I've gone without having commented on a Random Set of the Day, but I will not let this one slip by!
I'm guessing this set was only sold as part of 1720 Cactus Canyon and that's why it lacks a name.
Who actually decides on the names? Or, why don't we?
Yeah, this was part of the Cactus Canyon pack, which I tracked down a couple of years ago, and absolutely loved. Pure 90s goodness.

I've been helplessly humming it all night.

It's a earworm!
Speaking of which, Premiata Forneria Marconi delivered some great earworms too... ;-)
My older brothers both had this set, or rather the value pack of Cactus Canyon. I did not.
It's Blacktronness is negligible. But's it 90sness is high.
Part of my first Town set! I had a Freestyle set and a Fabuland, but 1720 Cactus Canyon was my first true Town set, and this was the headlining star: that fellow there (Nick Townson, as he was eventually to be known) would see service as a grandpa, an archaeologist, and--eventually--a news reporter: arguably one of the first "characters" I had among my LEGO sets, and a versatile one. And, to be real, it's all because he the most tools and the best truck.
