So Two-Face + Hero Factory? EPIC.

By in Canada,

Clever that only two pieces have any kind of blending or multi-colouring. Even the left "hand" isn't red.

reminds me of this philosopher guy, I forgot his name. He had this weird red and blue suit one time.

I always liked the way his helmet was done.

Long ago, Splitface was a member of the criminal organization Legion of Darkness before being captured and imprisoned by the HERO Factory.

During the 2012 story, the villain Voltix attacked the HERO Factory, using the "imprisoned" staff of Von Nebula to open a giant portal and help all of the other prisoners escape.

In order to deal with this mass Breakout HERO Factory sent one agent after each of the escapees. Mark Surge was sent to bring Splitface to justice. He tracked him down trying to destroy a communications satellite in an asteroid belt and managed to capture him.

Splitface has some sort of split personality disorder. His silver mechanical side is obsessed with physical weapons to crush or cut opponents, while his organic red side is obsessed with biological poisons and toxins to infect them. These two personalities often bicker over what weapon is best for each scenario, and prompting them to argue is one of the easiest ways to distract and capture him.

Also, unlike BIONICLE I haven't read the HERO Factory books yet, only watched the show, so I'm just learning something new from the wiki right now. Apparently there's a HERO Factory book where they travel to other realities, and one of these alternate universe Splitface's is straight up killed by that reality's versions of the Brains, the 2013 antagonists. BIONCLE wasn't afraid to do onscreen or inbook deaths, but HF always felt like it shied away from that to remain child friendly. The Queen Beast and debatably Von Nebula were the only characters to actually die in the show.

One thing I love about Splitface as a set is its clever use of molds. There was 1 new helmet piece designed for Splitface. It only covered half of the head, had once face on the front, a different face on the top, and an axle hole in the center. By rotating/flipping a second copy of this piece, and attaching them to either side of the head, it creates the illusion of two slightly different faces on a duel molded part, even though its actually two elements identical sans color! They did something similar in 2011 with Jetbug/Nitroblast and Firelord/Drilldozer using recolored and flipped helmets to create two distinct faces with one mold. Clever use of limitations!

In a just universe, the Lego DC Comics line returns with a Composite Superman constraction figure.

Split...face???...But...IT'S HIS WHOLE BODY!!!:D

@ResIpsaLoquitur: It this point, I'd be ecstatic if they (TLG) would just make a minifig version....Not to mention: Do MORE with the line/license...

Actually the helmet is 2 separate pieces (1 red, 1 gunmetal grey) that connect to the head from the sides!

Heh. Heh. Definitely not a Batman villain, right, WB legal team? Heh. Heh.

Now, this is interesting.

By in Netherlands,

What a coincidence. I just sold this guy after having it on sale for years.

@Brick_r believe it or not but his face is the only thing that's actually split. Even the torso is a red print on a gunmetal piece.
And I guess 'Split-Body' doesn't have the same ring to it.

@GSR_MataNui that's interesting. I didn't know there was much beyond the TV show/shorts and some year 1 and year 3 tie-in material like the podcast (which I also found out about later even though I had visited the website at the time). I do know XT-4 and Core Hunter only appeared in books from reading the wiki at one point. And apparently there was a legion of doom like teamup between the villains in the backstory. No idea there was stuff from the brains wave! I thougt that was already removed from everything else like the final kaiju wave.

I'm sorry, I'm sorry, your name is, it's Splitface? I just keep imagining you waking up in the morning, looking in the mirror and in all seriousness to yourself saying 'You know what would be a really kick-ass name? Splitface!'. That's how I hear you in my head!

That library card episode was my favorite episode of Arthur growing up. You've made my day!

"YES! FINALLY! HERO FACTORY!"

… whereas I’m here thinking “oh, God, Hero Factory *already*??”

Knowing RSotD is all sets from ten or more years earlier, I find it hilariously disturbing whenever it comes up with a set that I’m still internally conceptualizing as “recent”. The whole HF theme fits into that for me.

As I’ve previously noted, next year - less than ten months from now! - stuff from The LEGO Movie will be eligible and probably start popping up; that’s going to be sobering.

@dimc:
I read that the only reason he was in that film was so they could write that joke into the script. However, now I kinda think it might be amusing to give him a backstory where he’s given a name that holds deep and solemn meaning in his planet’s native language (because we all know every planet only has one language), and that it just sounds stupid to people who speak English.

@GSR_MataNui:Interesting backstory. I never consumed any of the HF ancillary media, so his resemblance to Two-Face had me picturing him as having him as having once been a good guy, maybe even one of the Heroes, until a disfiguring accident flipped his coin, so to speak.

Harvey Dent would win a copyright infringement case against this ripoff easily. Never mess with a lawyer.

I'd say there's 50% odds that Dent would drop the case.
