Oof. I was thinking the dune buggy model might be better. It is not.
Shouldn't this be Tractor/Dune Buggy? The tractor is the A model is it not?
"It doesn't even have turn signals!"
"No no no, that's why I have Josh. Look: LEFT!"
*points left*
"RIGHT!"
*points right*
"See?"
I will never not think of that scene from Drake & Josh whenever I hear something about a Dune Buggy.
Dune Buggy divided by Tractor must be 8284.
Kid: Mum can we get 42054
Mum: We have a technic tractor at home.
The Technic tractor at home: 8284
I love how, under the set number, it just says Technic as the set name.
@Randomness:
The image is just the cover to the A model instructions. They’ve already hooked you by that point, and don’t really see any need to keep flirting with you.
This tractor must have been a success because it was re-released 3 years later as set 8063 but with a different rear attachment (and B model), as well as a different colour scheme.
I really like the look of this, it'd go really nicely with the Class Xerion even if the scales are slightly off.
Predecessor to the Majestic Horse?
As Tractor neither Claas nor Deutz and not anywhere as good as 851.
(However, I would give it small benefit for lime colour and not having a single sticker.)
I like this set, it has some neat functions and nice Technic look to it. I'd prefer Xerion but for 1/3rd the price, I wouldn't mind having this either.
I liked this so much I got it a red cousin with a trailer. Not a huge fan of the buggy, even though I got the motor kit for it when I found it at a garage sale.

Someone just really likes things being alphabetical I guess

At least it HAS a B model to begin with!
851 was best looking tractor (Technic or System). I had hours of fun with it. These days I suppose it would be classed as creator (could be 3 in 1, if my memory correct you also had instructions for a hammer and a saw) or adults welcome.
These mid size models manage to include a lot of interesting mechanics in the build, as well as the usual working engine and steering I really like the clutch lever next to the driver's seat which engages or dis-engages the rotating blades something the far larger 42054 misses out on. As shown in the moc photo of the user reviews one thing it really misses out on is a lifting bucket in the front. If you can find for around $40 then it is also a great value and useful Technic parts pack.

I think that's putting the cart before the horse.

Shouldn’t that be “Buggy, Dune/Tractor” then?

If I remember correctly, it was a regional thing, with the tractor being the A model in Europe, and the Dune Buggy being the A model in America. It's pretty obvious that the tractor was the one supposed to be the A model, though.

So like 4956 House, which has the model depicted in the Brickset database, but has the B-Model with the more triangular roof with garage as the A-Model in europe. Or at least it was the one depicted in the Dutch catalog at the time. A cursory look online shows both the American box with typical part count info and a european box without that info as is typical here.
I like this set btw. Not because I own it or anything, I just like the look of it. The flex hoses were more technic to me because you could still see the mechanisms at work.
