Review: 76260 Black Widow & Captain America Motorcycles
Posted by CapnRex101,
Motorcycles have been a common feature of the Super Heroes range since its beginning, which is reasonable because they are easily adaptable for essentially any important character. 76260 Black Widow & Captain America Motorcycles therefore contains two such vehicles.
As expected, these motorcycles are quite similar to previous examples, although they should suffice for play. The minifigures are definitely of greater interest for older LEGO fans, especially since this version of Black Widow is exclusive!
Summary
76260 Black Widow & Captain America Motorcycles, 130 pieces.
£12.99 / $15.99 / €15.99 | 10.0p/12.3c/12.3c per piece.

While unoriginal; this set provides splendid play value and two enticing minifigures
- Two superb minifigures
- Appealing set for play
- Motorcycles are too similar

Minifigures
Captain America should not be overlooked though, sporting his Avengers: Age of Ultron garb, which has only previously appeared in 76189 Captain America and Hydra Face-Off. I love the padded design of Captain America's torso, with an attractive colour scheme too. The metallic silver accents, including the star on the chest, are equally effective. However, the undecorated legs are disappointing.
Also taking inspiration from Avengers: Age of Ultron, this Black Widow minifigure represents a clear improvement over the version in 76032 The Avengers Quinjet City Chase. The pearl dark grey sections are accurate to the source material and the blue piping is included, but would be slightly more prominent, ideally.
Black Widow minifigures have usually featured printed arms recently, so their absence on this occasion is unfortunate. The dark orange hair piece leaves something to be desired too, but is reasonably faithful to the film. Black Widow comes equipped with a pistol and two batons, while Captain America includes his famous shield and decorated helmet.
The Completed Model
These two motorcycles are very close to those from 76179 Batman & Selina Kyle Motorcycle Pursuit, incorporating the same fork elements around the front and rear wheels. The resultant shape seems rather bulky, which is exaggerated by the stud shooters mounted on either side. However, I think the bike's proportions are well suited to Captain America.
Captain America's shield fits neatly on the front, even though the pattern is oriented sideways. The model also includes a pair of handlebars and a new printed tile, displaying a pair of round dials. This piece seems very versatile and could be placed either way up, so I am sure it will be used elsewhere soon.
However, adding the printed tile extends the gap between the handlebars and the driver, so the minifigure cannot reach them when seated, unfortunately. The dark blue bodywork looks good though, extending around the driver's seat and over the rear wheel. Reddish brown pouches hang from each flank, which recalls Captain America's military motorcycle from World War II.
Black Widow's vehicle is almost identical in design, again integrating those forks and two stud shooters. The red and black colours are appropriate, but the motorbikes should definitely have differed more significantly, as Batman and Catwoman's bikes do in 76179 Batman & Selina Kyle Motorcycle Pursuit.
Nevertheless, I like the simulated forks on the front of Black Widow's motorbike and this model omits the printed dashboard, so the minifigure comes closer to gripping the handlebars. There are also clips for the heroine's trans-light blue batons and I love these splashes of colour near the back, corresponding with the aforementioned highlights on the Black Widow minifigure.
Overall
76260 Black Widow & Captain America Motorcycles accomplishes exactly what it intends to do. The motorcycles are fairly detailed, so match their respective riders, while remaining strong for play. Both minifigures are also desirable, although dual-moulded legs on Captain America and printed arms on Black Widow would have been appreciated.
Those small flaws are important when considering the price, as I think £12.99, $14.99 or €15.99 feels a little expensive. However, these provide better value than the recent Marvel mechs and are more successful as introductory Marvel sets, in my opinion. I would therefore consider this set a worthwhile purchase, once discounted.

The bikes are very chunky and a little samey, but I like this set better than the usual configuration of "Hero Motorcycle vs. Throwaway Villain Build."
this was the perfect opportunity to finally give us Cap's Stealth Suit from TWS, but of course Lego Marvel fumbles the bag once more.

I guess someone at TLG does really like this style of bikes, I noticed that they're also very similar to the one in 71458, and that set doesn't even exist yet.
But, you know. We're all rational people here, I'm sure no one will object to a cheap way of getting cool minifigures, and I think we can all agree that motorcycles and other mechanized vehicles for those minifigs are fun toys for the purposes of building, play and display.
Man, that popcorn is exceptionally salty, too. What happened during my black-out?"
I think you had a bad trip through the Star Wars Mechs article!
Why are those bikes so chonky?
I'm not a big fan of the horizontal front forks, but I can imagine how it'd help stabilize the whole thing for rolling it across the floor.
The pseudo forks on Widow's bike are interesting. I wonder if there's enough space between the fork and the tire to slip a 1x1 round brick over the end? That would close the gap and make it look more like shocks.
I'm really disappointed they didn't give Cap printed or dual molded legs, but the returning torso does look good. Black Widow looks really nice! It's a shame they didn't reuse her printed arms though. As others have mentioned, I would have preferred Cap's stealth suit. That being said this looks like a good cheap set even if I think the bikes are too chunky.
Honestly, they look good. 2 characters that are actually shown riding a vehicle (not some Spider-Man on car), not perfect but cool minifigures and bikes that aren't ridiculously oversized. Imagine if they did a Winter Soldier and Stealth Captain America set...

Why is the crocodile wearing a car in that set? It’s almost as weird as the pirate ship riding a shark instead of the ocean!
Speaking of riding, I’d love to ride these motorcycles! How would I make the stud shooters fire if it was life-size, though?
Love the new Black Widow minifigure, although printed arms would've made it perfect. Small Super Heroes sets are always great so I'm happy to see more at a $10-15 price point.

More parts, higher price point.
Black Widow bike + some extra parts = Lawmaster?
Guess some kids coming of Lego age don't yet have these characters in minifig form.
I don't understand why they don't use the proper minifigure scale bikes?
The bike from the Lego Indiana Jones set 7196 which I built when it first came out comes to my mind.

Aren't these bikes way too large for the figures?

I would offer the hypothesis that the bikes need wider tires for stability when 8 year olds shoot them across a surface, or can stand better on their own when stationary.
Plus, otherwise it’d be more like a polybag, and they’d have to split them up to make two because two figs in a polybag is rare (Captain Marvel and Nick Fury is the only one I can think of right now).
Not sure what Lego’s obsession is with the bike seen from Age of Ultron…this would have been a perfect opportunity to do Cap and Widow from Winter Solider, which also features motorcycles and two distinct variants for the characters that have never been made. *sigh*
Even a Civil War based set would have been better, as neither of them got accurate figures either - both reused the AOU designs.
I had no real interest in this set when it was revealed, but that dashboard print just may change that...
@craiggrannell: Now you've got me pondering what pistol piece would work best for a Lawgiver.

Ha, ha! No doubt. Some of that is my fault, for sure!

All I can see is Ethel and Stan taking in the scenery in their old-couple, fat, road bikes because they need a budget travel retirement plan.... Pie anyone?
The printing on Black is ok. They didn't even try on Cap'n.

Fun fact: A lot of Minecraft polybags have two, even if the other one is just a Creeper.
Looks like a similar design made it into 71458 : Crocodile Car
I like those a lot better compared to the 4+ versions , in sets like 76220 : Batman versus Harley Quinn / 71734 : Kai's Blade Cycle / 76189 : Captain America and Hydra Face-Off , that use giant prefab frames : https://brickset.com/parts/6320082/vehicle-frame-w-4-85-hole-no-1

Why would they use a suit from TWS when this set is based off AAOU?
I like the Black Widow minifigure but that isn't nearly incentive enough to purchase this set, especially not at full price.
