Random set of the day: Speedy Police Car
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 4666 Speedy Police Car, released during 2004. It's one of 18 4 Juniors sets produced that year. It contains 24 pieces and 1 minifig, and its retail price was US$5/£3.99.
It's owned by 525 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $20.00, or eBay.

I misread it as Spicy Police Car, and then I saw it was a 4 Juniors set, and that got me really weirded out.
I'm very tired...
The proportions on that vehicle look sort of- *sees figure* Oh, that explains it.
What exactly am I looking at here, and how can I erase this from my brain?
MY EYES!!!!
Four printed parts… no one tell the Pacman Arcade!
“The image we have for this set is not as large as we'd like. If you can provide a better scan of the box or instructions, please let us know.”
Umm, anyone want to put in the effort?
Anyone?
But...why does Speedy need a Police car...he's not an officer of the law (Restaurateur was the last 'job' I remember him having; given to him by Bugs)...plus he's reeeeeeally fast, so he doesn't really need a car...
That certainly is an angle for the box
Fun fact: The instructions for this set only has 2 steps
No thank you.
The jackstone version, 4600 at least had a silver grill tile.
ughh

I'm coming out as a fan of the Jack Stone bumper pieces. They integrate so well with Technic models and I'm tired of pretending they're not cool looking.

I guess we have different definitions of "fun".
I thought it was interesting how Jack Stone didn't stick around for very long, and by this point, the line had just been rebranded "4 Juniors" even though Jack was still hanging around in some of the sets.

Tut, tut. As a police officer you should be aware that your tyres are flouting Construction and Use regs.
You're nicked sunshine, and your car's being crushed.
When will the Junior Police admit to themselves that this is all a big midlife crisis and they really just wanted a dune buggy

Nowadays it would have 150 steps in 200 pages
Back in the day I really did the dumb move of getting this set along with 7043 instead of just the set 7044, which was a much better and bigger set with two proper minifigures. My 8-year old brain really told me I was doing a smart move getting two sets instead of one. (At least 7043 was good)
I see this and all I hear is:

And about 20 stickers.
That set number though.
I've recently seen this one from a different angle. It looks a *little* better than on this image but that's mostly because of the curved bricks and slope:

They somehow still gave it an alternate build:

Say what you will about this era, but they at least committed to the standards of ALL lego at the time at least!
I just wonder if Lego intended for Jack Stone intended there to be a TV or video series aimed at preschool builders … such as to entice play and (natch) purchase of the Jack Stone line of sets.

I think you’re right. There was a free Jack Stone VHS given away with 20 minutes of CGI adventures. I’m wondering if that was a pilot episode that didn’t land so the full series was cancelled or reduced. Here’s a link to the full 20 minutes of the VHS

This looks like it was designed by someone who spends their free time holding rallies in support of the forced conversion to bicycles and mass transit.
@ao_ka:
Hey, but at least with that pairing, when the cop sets his car on fire and pushes it into the bay, you’ve got a firefighter there to put it out. With water. Drawn from the bay.
@Binnekamp:
You know it only had an alt build because the lead designer took one look at it and said, “Yeah, nobody’s going to want to build that, so give them another option.”
Some of those 4 Juniors sets had the potential to be great, had they not been designed for these ugly minifigs.
You gotta give Jack Stone credit: They didn't have very many stickers in this theme at all!

I don't remember how we got it, but we had that VHS tape and my boys watched it at least 50 times. Just for spite against all the haters, I just watched that YouTube video! (on 1.25 speed)
CAN DO, WILL DO! DONE!

It goes to show that every theme had its fans.
Glad you enjoyed it and that it – and, if you purchased any, the Jack Stone line of sets – brought about many, many hours of fun play.
