Hehe, a 4-wide 4x4.

Also rip those trailer wheels. If this was the real world, those things would be dead being run over directly with a monster truck.

I thought this was a Ferrari set at first glance.

Not a bad looking set by all accounts. And doors on all vehicles! Am I seeing things?

I agree, they did a nice job with the styling of the vehicles. I like the exposed “shocks” on the monster truck. And yes, working doors!

I remember getting this from the legoland discovery center, it’s one of two sets I got from that place, the other one, 7 years later, is 10273, haunted house, funny story, I actually had to drive there TWICE to get the haunted house, but, that’s a story for another day

I had no idea that this set existed, but I do own a handful of those 8x16 tiles with the stickers that I got from bulk and which have been de-stickered. I use them as a narrow road between tracks in my city’s railyard.

pretty cool set

Oh wow, I just checked this set out yesterday for some ideas on 4-wide pick-up trucks. Both the semi and the monster pick-up has a nice design to them.

To me the other 2013 sets had been vastly more memorable (green F1 transporter with new tools, new airplane cockpit part, airshow etc). But when I recently found this one in a catalog again I was still impressed.
It's just a bit 'normal' compared to the rest of that year's summer City lineup.

This is the perfect example to illustrate how crappy a lot of City has become, how the only effort LEGO is making nowadays is to try and make things as cheap as possible. Compare this set to 60343 for example. Same price point, totally different execution. The bare minimum amount of pieces and details, and of course no doors, because why would you want doors on vehicles?

I take your point. But its really not the same price point. Your €29.99 from ten years ago has been eroded by a decade of inflation so if rereleasing 60027 today it would be a more expensive set.

For what it's worth I think it's quite a nice model, plenty of play value. 2013-era City was a good time.

Yes, I remember this set was an impulse buy, of mine, back in the day, and when I put it together, there were no regrets, it's a beautiful set.

Never seen this before, but this is a pretty much perfect City set! Looks great, proper but not unnecessary advanced builds with many nice details, and lots of play value. And indeed, doors! It also surprised me to see those rubber pieces, I didn't think those have been around for 10 years already.

Those open wheels on the trailer are a bit iffy, but can't see anything else wrong with this. Feels like a set they could easily re-release today and it would be one of the best City sets again.

By in Germany,

@WizardOfOss The rubber elements have been around for 20 years, they seem to have been created for the infamous ice hockey sets in 2003.

By in United Kingdom,

That's a lovely looking set right there. I really dig the unified team aesthetic. I've never seen it before, but in my view that's a perfect hauler set.

(apart from the trailer wheels issue which @MCLegoboy rightly pointed out, and in absolute reality any monster truck is transported with it's proper wheels replaced by skinny little wheels).

Props to the designer.

I have no memory of this ... set. Doesn't seem to be the set's fault: this looks solid. But there's been a LOT of City in the past decade and a half, and I have but a small percentage of it.

Red car-door battlepack!

This set wasn't so remarkable at the time of it's release compared to others of the range, but if it were offerd today as-is it would be a stand-out of grand design. It really illustrates how timeless and grand the designs were at the peak of Lego City.

I just put those 30 Euro into the official inflation calculator for Germany, and it told me that 30 Euro in 2013 mean 36 Euro today.
Factoring in the usual discounts the price you pay would be roughly identical.
But even if not, those two sets are aimed at the same audience, are from the same theme, cost a similar amount of money, yet the 2013 set is way better executed, a totally different league.

By in United States,

Even though the title says it's about the monster truck, I would have only bought this for the semi truck.

Also I find it sad that the only set from this year I own is the cargo truck, which don't get me wrong, is an awesome set, but I would have liked some of those other interesting vehicles.

Holy smokes, *this* thing qualifies for RSotD now?! :: looks at dates :: Argh, yeah, I guess it does, but man, does this not feel like it’s been around a decade…

Anyway, it looks like a pretty solid City vehicular set. I wouldn’t have minded getting this, but never did.

Cute Power Wheels. Kids are going to tear the yard up something fierce, driving that little thing around on the grass.

"Of course, we're now hard-wired to see this colour-scheme associated with City's crook-faction. What dastardly deeds are these hardened criminals up to? Well, look at the name. These no-goodniks drive up to people and shout random spoilers at them. You didn't know what was going to happen on page 596 or at the end of disc 1? You will, unless these monsters are stopped in their tracks."

Hah! Now that you mention it, that's probably why I like the look so much. I love me some crooks!

Mixels, Lego Movie 1, and Ultra Agents will become 10 next year.

This set is the one that taught me when buying used, never trust when the seller says it’s 100% complete.

Oddly specific...never thought "the Federation" or "Starfleet" would build such a thing...:)

Oh, believe me, I know. I’ve brought it up in the RSotD before, in just the last few months, that we can expect to start seeing The LEGO Movie stuff pop up in less than a year…

:: sigh :: Damn march of time…

By in United States,

City sets like this made me want to buy City vehicle sets. I bought the 2023 electric sports car set in January (60383) and after I built it I couldn't believe how light it was. The monster truck in this set could actually crush the 2023 car!
