Random set of the day: Ultralight Flyer
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 1436 Ultralight Flyer, released during 2002. It's one of 14 Jack Stone sets produced that year. It contains 15 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 130 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $6.00, or eBay.

Anime spinoff? :P
So light that it barely exists!
Still looks more airworthy than 60367
Wow. Kabaya had a lot of sets in their promotions.
I thought at first that this was the one Jack Stone set I own, and was wondering why it didn't say I owned it, until I looked at the set entry and realized it was a Kabaya promotion. (Guess I didn't pay enough attention to the picture, which clearly has Japanese writing on it.) The one I have is 4614, which is the same model, just didn't come with candy and was bought in the United States. I bought it for three reasons. One: I found it at a fair discount. Two: It had some decent pieces. (I especially wanted the wings.) Three: I wanted to get a look at one of the Jack Stone figures in person, and I've always been an aviation buff, so if I was going to have one, it might as well be one in an old-school flight suit. I later ended up with another, in a bucket of used Lego I bought at Goodwill, but at least it was still Lego, which not everything in that bucket was.

Agreed.
@TheOtherMike:
Four: You have a 3-man slingshot?
Needs rudder with shape.
Ultralight? Yes
Flier? Doubtful
Blacktron? Not a chance.

Turning someone else's comment into a decade-plus old reference? Priceless.

I see a lot of white, a bit of Black. Just needs some trans neon green.
CAN DO! WILL DO!
I don't believe something that small could ever get a human off the ground

Hotel? Triv... ah... Heartlake Grand Hotel
Worst set picture ever?
TBH, it doesn't even deserve a better one...

Biggles in lego form
@PurpleDave: That would have damaged the decent pieces I mentioned, and I'm pretty sure I could launch this thing with a one-man if I wanted. Even with the limited use of my left hand after my stroke. I do still have a decent grip, if I want to fire 71736's missiles, for instance, I have to hold it left handed, so I can turn the firing knob with my right. Even if I couldn't hold 71736 at all left-handed, it's still much more fun to swoosh.
@Zink: And yet you stuck with the brand. Good for you, seeing past this!
Imagine owning only one kabaya set and not being from Japan. And it's this one. What luck XD
Disclaimer: I own 0. And I daresay that might be a better position.
@TheOtherMike:
Yeah, but think of how much more distance you could get with a 3-man. Maybe set up a giant sound system and play the Wilhelm as you launch it (alternately, Goofy has some appropriate screams, too).
@Binnekamp:
Imagine this being your only Kabaya set and you actually do live in Japan, and have had ample opportunity to correct this, but haven’t.
As a proud owner of the European version of this, I can confidently say that it is one of the sets ever.

Monty Python FTW!
Controller: I know but this guy has no flying experience at all. He's a menace to himself and everything else in the air... yes, birds too.
Not the least plausible aircraft in the Jack Stone theme (see 4612).
Ultralight on parts and building experience.
But, are we 'sure' this IS an ultralight, and not a "kit plane"...I mean, I always think of an "ultralight" as being a "powered hang glider" in one-form-or-another; but all basically using a 'fabric-wing'...
@brick_r:
I always think of an ultralight as that thing hanging from the ceiling at the comic book shop I used to frequent, if anyone ever decided they had enough disposable scratch to pay for it.
This vehicle looks like a design we would have if Stockton Rush liked airplanes instead of submarines
Tragically, the pilot survived the flight.
@PurpleDave: Yeah, but it'd be easier to find after using the one-man, so you could launch it again. (And again, and again...) Although I *do* have a Wilhelm sound file on my phone... Of course, my copy was long ago sorted out into parts organizers, and the wing pieces I mentioned are currently being used in a spaceship MOC that's in storage (along with the rest of my pre-stroke Lego collection, with the exception of a couple of sets) right now.
