Random set of the day: Wheel Loader
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 8271 Wheel Loader, released during 2007. It's one of 6 Technic sets produced that year. It contains 200 pieces, and its retail price was US$19.99/£13.99.
It's owned by 1,782 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $39.60, or eBay.

0/10 Doesn't come with additional wheels to scoop and load.
I do not see a seat. That could cause problems when operating.
when technic was poorly designed and had unappealing box art

It does it O. Henry style, and loads its own wheels.
Today this would be a CAT or JCB or something and cost $50.
Also thank you to those who replied to my query about yesterday's set and box contents!

Maybe we’re in something like the Thomas the Tank Engine or Pixar’s Cars universes where the machinery is sentient and operates itself

But… it has no eyes…
Seat? Where wheel loading, we don't *need* seat!

Sentient but no eyes…oh no that means we’re in Maximum Overdrive! Run before the poor quality gets you too!
@PurpleDave: regarding my comment from yesterday's RSOTD, you apparently misunderstood. It was evening when posted as well, but my comment was merely a Red Dwarf quote on Star Trek, since you mentioned it.

Thomas the Tank Engine does have a driver, despite Thomas being sentient.
For 200 pieces this does have a working loader and is fun for kids to build, play and display. Plus a useful set of traditional black and yellow beams and connectors for combining with other Technic models.

You're not being a Diesel, are you?
@AustinPowers:
While I have watched some Red Dwarf, I’ve probably only seen a couple seasons in total.

Poorly designed? Maybe it's just nostalgia speaking, but 3 separate mechanical functions for $20 seems like pretty good technic to me.

Whereas today Technic is of course well known for elaborate functions, awesome design, and appealing box art.
Ah yes, the highly imaginative black background, with subtle details in black and... black.
Perhaps Batman is the new art director at TLG - or Henry Ford.

Thomas the Tank Engine does have a driver, despite Thomas being sentient.

And yet if one of the trains, for example, does not wish to leave a tunnel then no force will apparently compel them to. The drivers are clearly there for show
I'd take a set like this with full functionality included and on full display over whatever equivalent we'd have now that is a fully paneled up recreation of some licensed vehicle that would be exactly the same as a general model except for some weirdly specific details you only get if you try to adhere to a specific make.
That said, I have my nostalgia goggles on for sure. But this is the technic I personally care for for a reason.

Coughs and sneezles spread diseasels.

Uh, no. Technic sets released around this time were pretty amazing, and way better than what we're currently getting.
Looks like a small version of my 8853. Same functionality in a smaller and cheaper package. Even when I very much prefer the classic Technic (probably mostly nostalgia speaking), this just seems like all you could ask for at €20.

Wheels are innacurrate but still 0/10 is overreaction.

The eyes would be the transparent orange studs on the side. It can only see directly left and right.

Personally, I was thinking Killdozer! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killdozer!_(film)

I unliked your comments so I could like them again!
