Random set of the day: 250 GT Berlinetta
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 30193 250 GT Berlinetta, released during 2012. It's one of 11 Racers sets produced that year. It contains 25 pieces.
It's owned by 4,399 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $7.90, or eBay.

It was such a swing and a miss when they tried to use the parts developed for Disney Cars , in regular sets.
I thought the hand in the pullback motor instructions was a single, very messed-up finger for a second.
@Westerbricks: That depends on what sets they were using them in, and how. This set still looks like a Cars character, despite not having any eyes, but 4209 made very clever use of the piece used for Francesco Bernoulli. Incidentally, when looking up how to spell his name, I found that Cars characters are counted as minifigs. Considering that we've had a brick-built character as RMotD before...
Turn that cab piece around and it’s a totally different car!
Lightning McQueen, is that you??
Back before they started making actual hubcaps, I used these paired with a more standard Tiny Turbos wheel to put some alternate rim designs with the 6015 tire. It’s not a strong enough grip for play purposes, but it improved the look of some of my 6-wide Pixar Cars characters.
I miss the shell promos. And the racers theme. There’s something iconic about Lego x Ferrari x Shell
those headlights are sticking out a bit too much
I got one of these small pull-back motors in a lot and managed to cram it into a 4 stud minifigure size SUV-type vehicle. It worked very nicely. Now that all the vehicles are 6 stud or more it should be easier to build sets with pull-back motors.
Giving me strong The Italian Job vibes despite me strongly suspecting this model of car never appears in The Italian Job

I couldn’t even tell which piece you were talking about when comparing the two. It truly was well used.
Jay, one I own! These Shell polybags where basically what got me out of my dark ages. This was probably the worst of the bunch though, despite heavily relying on specialized pieces it just looks weird, and the build is beyond basic. The pullback motor is surprisingly good though, especially considering its size.
Gross. Stickers in a polybag?
I remember driving to Austria for this one, because in Slovenia we didn't have Shell petrol stations. You had to fill-up your car with Shell 100 petroleum to get the set for free, which was very expensive at that time, but I never made so much distance with 50 liters of gasoline in my car so I guess it was worth double.
I wonder if the Tiny Turbos subtheme would have become entirely based around the Pixar Cars parts if it had been left to live. Supposedly with far more stickers though, being retail sets instead of promo polybags.
And with how Speed Champions has dominated the market since, I supposed the days of us getting a 'Bad' and Nitro [extreme word] named car and the like would have been over anyway, unfortunately. As would combiner models, which are a strong reason for even collecting collectable multiple in a line of building toys.
That said, although I miss promotions like this, I guess there is something to be said for such promotions promoting more driving, and thus emissions. Although I doubt that was even the reason Greenpeace decided to campaign against lego.

They are a surprising likeness to the actual car, apparently. Sure, They do stick out too much to be accurate, but at this scale that part is the best they could have done short of making an entirely new part mould for this set. I'd wager they even chose this car specifically because they already had this part!

Where's the part used? I can't see any 'Cars' part in that set.

Look closely at the wing engines. The engine housings are dark bluish gray backwards mounted unprinted Bernoulli noses!
I only found out about that earlier this year when the topic came up in an earlier RSotD and I was prompted to do some searching on Bricklink.

Thank you! Wow. That was hard to spot. Well done.
