Another one of those cheesy, unrealistic sets until you remember it’s fuelled and powered by a child’s imagination. And then, only then, does it look great.

He's just realised that he has no controls no parachute and that he's going to die!!

But at least he's happy about it.

It's actually pretty cute, I quite like it. And I absolutely echo @MeisterDad 's sentiment.

RMotD was a better model than this.

By in Canada,

I would say I have fond memories of this set, as it is one of my oldest sets (This minifig is number 26 or 27 of my oldest minifigs[Don't ask me how I know that])

But I don't really have any specific memories of this set. It existed. The minifig is now a pirate (See here: https://pirateslife.thecomicseries.com/comics/611 )

It was quite useful in my early Blacktron building in 2004 or so. when I discovered Blacktron. Such a tiny set, but it's mostly black and white. And the helmet was one of my few black helmets before I got any actual Blacktron Minifigs.

By in Turkey,

I love this set, parts wise it's an amazing set. My only regret is getting only two of these.

Ummm...where's its means of propulsion/thrust...I mean, I'm no expert, but four thing are always involved in 'flight':
-Gravity (duh)
-Lift (usually countering Gravity)
-Thrust (means of movement, usually 'forward'/X-axis)
-Drag (no matter how aerodynamic, an aircraft always has this)

I mean, it could be a glider; which explains the bar in front (for towing...)

By in Netherlands,

Had so much fun with this as a kid. I really didn't care it wasn't 'realistic'. Its swooshability level is off the chart.

I still have one of these. It's the first set I ever remember having, rather than just a load of second hand mixed bricks.

I think I may have gotten this set from a trip to Legoland, when they handed out polybags if you got food from the restaurant there. Which means my sister would also have gotten one so probably means I ended up with two of this set

Dear, sweet, Concorde! Your severe diminution will not be in vain. This in undoubtedly a sign that will lead us to the most holy Grail.

I built a bunch of these in the 70s. All the pocket money sets from the 90s look like they were just designs stolen from 5 year-olds from the 70s.

Looks like it belongs in one of those flying machine competitions where everyone jumps off a pier to see how far they make it. I love it!

By in Poland,

You think it has no controls, when in fact this craft is so advanced it recognizes the pilot's gestures to steer.

“So, why do you think it crashed?”
“Well, he flew past a beach resort.”

Ah, one of my first sets! And, in fact, the first set I had two of. I genuinely don’t remember where I got the first one, it’s one of those ‘had almost as long as I can remember’ sets - maaaay have got it as the free toy from a Little Chef restaurant like I did 2849? - but I know I got the second one from those Town Jr cookie tins that came around in about 2000 and each included a free set, of which this was one of the possibilities.

I’ve still got one of those tins around, in fact. Though it’s long since empty of cookies!

Not really a set that excited me much, especially with how plain the minifigure was (this was my first encounter with both unprinted torsos and classic smiley faces, though maybe my fourth minifigure, so he seemed less interesting in comparison); but free Lego is free Lego! That said some of those parts, the wings especially, certainly spent more time being used in my childhood MOCs than on the assembled set.

By in Netherlands,

Fun fact: there does not seem to be an alternate build for this one. The box just shows another angle at the back!

@ElephantKnight I didn't know you made a webcomic! It looks well done from what I saw so far, so I'll read it if I find the time :D

Ah, the weird orange box Town sets... Some had really odd parts in them and they were the last 'real' Town sets of the classic line.

By in Australia,

I wouldn’t have thought 1997 by looking at this. More like 1977.

Thank you. I've been doing it for over 10 years, but I don't think the AFOL community at large knows I do.
