I want to give my dad the recognition he deserves, as a LEGO designer in the 80s on the TOWN theme and in the early 90s as the creator/co-creator of the 9V train theme.

He’s also the person behind some of the most used speciality bricks in the last 30 years:
The 1x2 flat tile “the grille” (part 2412a/b)
The 1x2 profile brick (part 2877)
The 2x2 corner plate (part 2420)
The 2x2 corner brick (part 2357)

On part 2412, the grille - he specifically mentions that Godtfred Kirk Christiansen was against the design, seeing as there were no studs on top, but it was approved eventually, mainly due to Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen supporting the design.

After this, he worked on many of the classic Miniland dioramas in LEGOLAND Billund and LEGOLAND Windsor, before departing LEGO and LEGOLAND altogether in the late 90s.

Hardly a ground-breaking list, but with the set in the factory category and the latest sets moving to the Creator Expert category it seems worth making.
(And I've included 10230 for the smiles!)

I can't wait to see what 2014 brings. There are rumours of a second set as well as the Parisian Restaurant. Will it be a corner to finish off the square (excluding the odd factory set)? And what building do we need? Would TLG dare do a Police HQ...?

Just listing all the Creator houses

All the sets I've designed during the first 8 years of my 18 years at the LEGO Group. Currently the Creative Lead on LEGO Harry Potter and upcoming theme LEGO One Piece. Previous Creative Lead on LEGO Indiana Jones, LEGO 4+, LEGO Creator and LEGO Mixels

From 2011, some creator sets include a minifig and also more variety than just standard houses, including lighthouses, log cabins, tree houses and shops. This turns it into one of the most exciting and collectible lines, with minifigs, multiple instructions and relatively sophisticated builds.
Over the years this has expanded to include various vehicles alongside the buildings, and a subtheme of buildings with matching footpaths that appear to be a cheaper alternative to the expensive Modular Building range. The latest development is a series of 'modular' buildings made up of smaller components that can be interchanged between sets. (while these might offer a new play experience, this writer prefers the older style of more cohesive buildings)
NOTE: Does not include Modular Buildings or other special sets that have been included into the Creator theme, specifically those with only one build.

A list of all sets containing brick-built trees. The goal of this list is to chart the history of brick-built trees in Lego sets over the years. This list excludes Basic Brick buckets and the 'pile of parts' Creator sets that merely suggest trees on the packaging as being possible. Also excluded are Seasonal Christmas tree polybags and the sets containing the segmented palm trees from Classic Pirates.

A VERY partial list of sets designed by Jens Nygaard Knudsen, the creator of Classic Space (and the minifig!). I love that the Creator sets inspire alternative builds. As a Lego fan with a relatively small collection it is somewhat liberating to know that I will be able to recreate builds I see online by only acquiring one set. Even the smallest (and cheapest) sets can offer hours of challenge in recreating user submitted builds and in turn creating alternate builds. Here is a list of Creator sets that have at least 10 user submitted alternate builds.

It's been a noticeable trend in Creator sets with three suggested builds that an aircraft "A" model will be accompanied by another aircraft and a watercraft of some description. Here, I've compiled all of those, and the exceptions. Which do exist!

This list shows all the LEGO Creator vehicles that are too big to be minifigure scaled

All creator sets with vehicles that fly! This will only include sets that were widely available and not all those pesky polybags. It doesn't start until 2003. All the so-called creator sets before then are incredibly simply and don't seem to be designed by a true LEGO designer.

List of the creator mini 3-model sets that came in small, colorful canisters from 2007 to 2013. Since 2014, they've been packaged in tiny boxes instead.

2003-2011

As the Space theme went fully Sci-fi at some point, more realistic sets (as in: possible with today's technology) were released within the Town and later City, Creator, Friends and Technic theme. This list shows them all and I'll comment what makes them special.

Small and inexpensive Creator sets that can be connected together similar to the modular buildings.

LEGO Designer Morten calls these smaller LEGO Creator sets as the "little brothers" of the LEGO Modular Buildings. They can be used with their big brothers either as they are, or with some modification.

This list shows which 3 in 1 creator sets have a 4th 'secret' model instructions online. The comment says which kind of model it is;

Like the title says! When LEGO found their way again and started the Creator line, they released X-pods. These sets were designed for maximum portability and imagination. To see what you can do with literally handful of bricks, under a common theme. X-pods eventually morphed into the Mini sets.

This list include all Lego sets which have a complete windsurf set, a windsurf sail or a surfboard. Within Leisure and Paradisa, a subthemes of town, the first windsurf Lego sets were introduced in 1992. Also parts of the cool but rare windsurf equipment is used in sets; surf sails for sailboats and after the end of Paradisa windsurf boards for wave riding. Recent the little surfboards for wave riding are released in the Collectable Minifigures and Creator sets. This list gives an overview of Lego surfing through the years, it's return so now and then and see surf sets almost always have an rating around 4 bricks!
