And yet more sets for my daughter to want...

Good by money, hello Lego sets....

By in United States,

1. Who's Aurora?
2. Finally, Aladdin!
3. LEGO Frozen. I have a feeling that one's going to popular, just too bad it's $70.
4. MORE Ariel? Ridiculous. And that's a pricier set than anything from the last wave...

At least this wasn't one of those "one and done" themes, but this looks like it was meant to be a summer wave by the number of sets. And it looks like Anna and Elsa are now Disney Princesses, because how else would they have been squeezed in here?

1. Sleeping Beauty
2. Nope, not Aladdin, just Jasmine. It's a license thing... (could be wrong here, but doubt it)
3. Probably the reason why this isn't the summer wave. Elsa's and Anna's coronation might have been delayed, so TLG had to wait with the sets.
4. More Ariel? Bring it on! I just wish that this and the Frozen set had their price points the other way round...

My Daughter will be begging for “Elsa's Glittering Ice Palace”

WOOO JASMINE! I've been waiting for her to appear in sets, both for the sake of racial diversity and because Aladdin was an amazing film. Granted, this isn't the Agrabah Palace set I was hoping for, but I guess I can acknowledge that something like that would be a tad bit ridiculous.

What do you mean not Aladdin because "licensing thing"? Because Aladdin is not a Princess? The Disney Princess line hasn't excluded princes at all, 41052 had Prince Eric, 41054 had Flint Ryder (Eugene), and 41055 had Prince Charming. No reason these upcoming sets couldn't have Prince Philip, Aladdin, Hans, Kristoff, or King Triton (though King Triton in the same mini-doll scale might look kind of weird).

I'm still holding out for a Beauty and the Beast related set that has a bigfig Beast, kind of like the Hulk.

As I said, I might be wrong. But all your examples have in common that the princess was the main character in the film, and the princes were just supporting roles. With Aladdin, it's reversed, so it might very well be that he is not part of the Disney Princess license.

By in Taiwan,

I'm abit dissapointed that Frozen didn't get a whole wave during its own theatrical time, at least it could get more than three sets at once. I guess people would be curoius about whether this means Frozen would be counted as a part of Disney Princess license, or this would allow more non-princess story.

My concern is that it seems too late to get a second wave (most of us even suspected that this license is cancelled). Also, not being bored by Friends, Disney classics have more diversified story elements but get much fewer sets than Friends. If TLG want to target at girls, I think this theme deserves to get another wave in mid-year time.

BTW, yes, I'd rather see Ariel's castle last year instead of favoring her again. I wonder which characters would be in that set. Ariel's sisters, father or daughter? Or it could be Ursula sisters?

@TomKraut
I don't really know what this theory is. First, we have introduced lots of non-princess Disney characters in other themes. Second, as ytjedi said there have been male love interests and supporting characters like Merryweather.

Interesting. Not the best set names, so who knows how the set will be.

I know my daughter will like Elsa's set, but I'm not paying that price for it. I guess I'll just look for Elsa on ebay or something.

I don't understand how people get up in arms about never having enough minifigures in sets based on the price, yet Friends and Princesses can have 1 or 2 figures in a 70$ set and no one says a word...weird to me.

It's indeed an issue and we may complain about this. The problem is not obvious in Friends, I assume. As for Disney sets, you may often get more than five figures in any Castle/Hobbits building but only two figures were added to Cinderella's set, which is indeed less profitable.

My theory comes in this case from the fact that there is no Aladdin doll for sale on the Disney Online Store under the Pricess theme. It's a theory, not a fact I know. There is a Beast doll, a Flynn doll etc. but Belle and Rapunzel were the main characters here. Jasmine isn't a main character, so I speculate that Aladdin is not covered by the Disney Princess license. Unfortunately, I am unable to find any list, official or otherwise, of characters covered by the license.

If I'm wrong, I would be very happy about it. An Aladdin minidoll would be amazing!

By in United States,

Lego and Disney really botched last Christmas by not having a Frozen set or two. Looks like they are hoping girls (and their moms) are still crazy about the movie a year later.

Elsa's Glittering Ice Palace had better be glittering with lots of trans blue. To be honest, though, I think I'm looking more forward to her mini-doll than the set itself. Never was a fan of the pastel color scheme used for the princess sets.

(And we still need a Tiana set!)

By in United Kingdom,

What no Snow White? And bring on Belle, beast, gaston, cogsworth, lumiere, et al.

Gravatar
By in United States,

There is no license issue. LEGO has the building block license across the entire Disney character line, including Aladdin. The license is a broad license that covers all Disney characters - from Aladdin to Mickey to Cars to Toy Story to Marvel. The set sounds like the magic carpet ride scene, and including Aladdin is a given.

Looking forward to seeing what they do with Ariels Undersea Palace! Does anyone know when these might start showing up?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Whoops, I forgot these were in NZD! $35 is MUCH more reasonable than $70. Of course, we do have to see it before I make the judgement...

By in United States,

I'm thinking $15 for Aurora, $20 or $25 for Jasmine, Elsa with will have to "Let it Go" of $35 or $40, and $60-$70 for Ariel in US dollars. UK 10, 18, 25, and 50.
