Random minifig of the day: sh185

Posted by ,

Today's random minifigure is sh185 Nick Fury - Leather Trench Coat, a Super Heroes figure that came in one set, 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier, released during 2015.

Our members collectively own a total of 6,949 of them. If you'd like to buy one you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $21.70.

If Hydra agents are aboard the Helicarrier (which is itself a plane, in theory), and the mythological Hydra is technically a really big, freaky snake with multiple heads, does this mean they're snakes on a plane?

;-P

@PurpleDave re: yesterday's discussion of trays: I'm 99% positive that the legs and headgear weren't attached while in the trays.

@NotProfessorWhymzi: This franchise's crime-fighting billionaire is completely different.

@TheOtherMike:
I don't remember a single instance of legs being attached. They were always placed below the torso, perhaps to demonstrate that you were supposed to build them.

Builds Millennium Falcon?

@Murdoch17: The Helicarrier us, well; more of a helicopter...kinda' goes w/the name, but the rest is sound...

It's funny/ridiculous: the character's in one of the worst streaming shows and movies of the year (superhero wise I think only Flash beats it based on the Budget/Profit ration), and that movie still got a set...where was Shazam 2's set...nothing for Auqaman 2 either...? Meanwhile: McFarlane just dropped over the last two week he's putting out a CAPTAIN CARROT FIGURE...yesh TLG, you have a DC license; mine it beyond Batman...and NO I don't want "Batman Beyond" either...

At last, after already having seen Black Panther, Iron Man (twice), Thor, Drax, Hulk, War Machine, Korg, Wong (also twice), Miles Morales, Miek and Firestar as RMotD Nick Fury is finally (finally!) here to talk to us about the Avengers Initiative

When the Ultimates-universe collapsed, some of its changes were introduced into the main comics-continuity, including Miles Morales. We also got a Sam L. Jackson-looking version of Nick Fury, who would turn out to be OG Nick Fury's illegitimate son (Nick Fury... junior!). Junior would very rapidly turn out to be a fully-fledged replacement for his father when senior would go AWOL (which was frequent, gladly, for prolonged periods of time, and for reasons best explained in other Lore Times).

"

Actually Nick Junior appeared in the Mainstream Marvel Universe, Earth-616, even before the collapse of the Ultimate Marvel Universe. I can't really tell when exactly but I think it was about the time when Marvel NOW! was introduced in 2012 or sometime close. He just kind of appeared. And shortly after Original Nick was killed, this event was called Original Sin. Never read it, so I don't know until today who killed him.

Although I would probably respond if called a "nostalgia-bent reprobate," I'm not actually against the expansion of printed minifig parts in the past 25 years or so to include backs, legs, arms and the sides of legs--but I am KIND of a anti-over-complex printing.

There's an art to a good minifig print and I'm not sold on this one. It's too busy, and any time LEGO prints the same article of clothing over two parts of different colours (black and dark grey here), they're flirting with trouble.

Trenchcoats are a problem for fig design, though. There isn't a great option in the realm of their normal fig designs.

Hold onto your butts... wait that isn't correct

Where is my supersuit?... wait that's wrong too

What are all these mudflipping snakes... yeah I'm getting all the wrong Samuel L. Jackson here

Sure there is. Dual-molded legs so the thighs match the torso, and keep the trench coat hem right around where the split occurs. I’m pretty sure it’s been done at least once.

@Murdoch17: I'm reminded of in Lego Avengers where literal snakes have infested the Helicarrier and says the crewman giving you the mission to get rid of them says that Fury "Has had it with these gosh-darned snakes on this gosh-darned Helicarrier!" then admits he might be paraphrasing slightly.

@Ridgeheart: Jackson let them use his image with the understanding that he wanted to play Fury if they ever made a movie.

So much talk about snakes on a plane but no one mentions planes on a snake.

I still want a minifigure of the original Nick Fury in the cool SHIELD bodysuit with white gear to denote his rank. I also want the original White Tiger, the original Firestorm, and the original Nova.
