“It’s going to be used to drive over rough, rocky terrain, through mud, and on sand.

“Paint them silver.”

For once it's not being used as a track but something else on 8189. What is it being used for?

"Yeah, I'm just really in my element out on the track, you know? I can really, just, follow the beat of my own drum." - I don't know, he just walked up carrying a bucket of silver paint and started talking at me

@AverageChimaEnjoyer how 70224 uses those treads isn’t very cool. It just alternates black and dark grey treads. The most recent set I got this part in, 70753 Lava Falls uses the treads as a falling bridge.
Also how was Power Miners cancelled?

@MaxBricks14 8189 uses those treads as armor plating.

Oh cool. A one-brick-build satellite.

Power miners was canned after the third wave of sets sold terribly. and there were other, more popular themes coming out so they made the decision to "pull the plug"

My brother has 70224 and in my opinion that set is overrated. The model itself is extremely blocky and the head breaks off easily.
In my opinion out of all the modular Chima Vehicles 70009 is the best. Even without the bonus vehicles it still looks cool.

Dieselnaut is badass!!

I found one of these in a bulk box, and was mystified. Was there a build with glorious silver tank treads?! No. There isn't.

I took my one silver tread and used it as a space-age shield for a grungy space dude in my Tatooine layout.

By in Canada,

I have this part but was unaware it is unique to one set. I am thinking to buy a few hundred of them in common colours to make a flowing river on a layout.

I have 8189, so as soon as I saw "Drum Lac." I wondered, "Was this in any other set?" Another case where I wonder if they meant to use it in any other sets, considering that drum-lacquered pieces require a new mold to be created.

Doesn’t look half bad being used as armour plating; any other sets use it (or its non-drum-lacquered form in a similar way? Pretty sure I’ve got a couple sets it’s used as greebling but not armour

Now imagine a machine like 70616 or 42038 had these instead of boring grey/black ones :-)

it could be worse. it could be orange."

As a Dutchman I'm obliged to ask: What's wrong with orange? Everything should be orange!

All jokes aside, it is kinda baffling they made this variant for one single set. And even for a rather trivial purpose I'd think they could have easily done with either just a grey piece, or other drum lacquered pieces. Which makes me think: Was this supposed to be used in other sets, which got cancelled or changed?

"As another Dutchman: no."

Don't worry, I was just joking. I have actually once attended a practice game of our national football team, in Seoul World Cup Stadium against South Korea. And I wasn't wearing orange. No, on the train to the stadium I bought a red Korean shirt instead :-)
(but unfortunately I was still sitting between mostly Dutch expats all dressed up in orange....)
