It's just so sad that this piece has been used only once in a CMF. I really wish it would appear in more sets, even if it's basically just a prefab version of LEGO City's brick-built drones.

Looks more like a done than a drone.

HEY! this is a drone free zone.

It’s an odopi from D&D, made out of micro-doll arms. Creepy.

I think if you check closely, you'll find that this is only what it appears to be, and nothing else.

First impression: don’t like it.

After studying it for a while: meh.

By in Australia,

Given that you can easily brick build a drone using part 4590, i’m not surprised this part hasn’t been further used.

You’re right; it’s a good piece for that. I guess the designers had room in the parts budget and wanted a piece which used the tiny propeller

By in Germany,

In yellow or metallic gold this would make a great Sheriff's star for constraction style figures. :-)

In any case, it appears that the CMF theme has a separate parts budget (and "frame" allocation) from the rest of LEGO's portfolio since from the beginning it contained lots of specially created designs that have never been used since.

By in United Kingdom,

Given how drones increasingly pop up in the more mundane Lego themes I’m surprised this one found use in a CMF. Would have thought the City sets would be all over it

By in Sweden,

I own this! Even if it is not marked as such because I marked the 'drone pilot' minifig as 'owned' whereas the database points to the generic (or collective) bag. Not a problem for me, just some database oddities (I'm sure there are good reasons for this)

And agreed: not the most useful piece in the Lego catalog.

@SimonSpace70s: In addition to what @AddictedToStyrene said, there was only so much space in a CMF bag

@kfr: Brickset isn't able to track the contents of individual CMFs with the information provided by Lego; the piece is only listed as occurring in 71027-0. If you go to 71027-16's page and then go to the "Parts" tab, the inventory is provided by Rebrickable.

@AustinPowers:
I’m not checking to make sure, but based on observation, CMF seems to run about one new mold per minifig. And being that they started out as 100% Chinese production, absolutely they had their own rules for new molds. Getting access to those new shapes was actually a challenge for other themes, since they couldn’t share molds. Now that’s less of an issue, but I don’t know exactly how that dynamic has changed.

By in Netherlands,

Surprised this has not shown up in sets, as drones were all the hype in City for a while, now less so but still some out there (still one in a Fire set for 2024, and the space subtheme has robots that could be seen as "drones" as well)
