LEGO merchandise survey
Posted by CapnRex101,LEGO has invited participation in a survey, asking questions about licensed merchandise, such as clothing, homeware and storage accessories.
The survey takes approximately fifteen minutes to complete and is open to everybody, but please think about US dollars or British pounds when considering the pricing questions.
You can view some concept products after the break...
What types of LEGO merchandise have you bought in the past and what would you like to see in the future? Let us know in the comments and by filling in the survey.

GOAT.
Life size Goat yes!
I **NEED** a fabuland shirt in my life!!!
Big Goat - not a plush though - a torch with the light coming from its eyes.
I like a good t-shirt. Pity Lego don't do adult ones. My Brickset t-shirt is great.
That ghost light though… I can unironically say as an adult I’d have that as a bedside light as well as getting them for my nippers!
Would absolutely buy a coffee table book on castle or other vintage themes like the recent Classic Space one.
Not so bothered by apparel unless it's subtle. Am a bit of a sucker for upscaled lego items... though not seen any in the UK unlike the stuff the USA got for the snowman kit etc.
I wouldn't dream of buying LEGO merch. I've spent way too much money on sets already. Don't they ever get enough?

You know the answer.
I would need some Insiders points as incentive to complete this survey...
Using this opportunity to beg for t-shirts that look like classic space and castle minifig torso designs. Also upscaled Lego Piece as a flower vase for botanical sets
Also what the hell is a "coffee table book" supposed to be? Is it just a decorative book? Is that really a thing?
I'd like to have an Xbox controller for my PC with a skin similar to the current LEGO Star Wars box art.
I know, very specific, but I'm willing to spent some extra euros for something like that.
If the survey is, "Would you purchase a ghost minifig night-light?" the answer is, I'll take two.
I want that vase for my lego flowers. And those coasters would be really cool too. I'd like some decent quality plushies too, rather than the awful cheap-feeling fleecey material they currently use.

Totally agree, t's hard to keep up with this pace. Too many sets to buy every year. Prices skyrocketing. I cannot even buy all the sets that I want. Really don't need a life size goat. I need a cheap display system, a problem that ikea collab was supposed solve. Not happened.
Obviously the flower vase works will with the Lego flower collection.
The ghost night-light all day long!

I am surprised that the list of where you buy things from doesn't include supermarkets. None of the options felt like a good fit for say, Asda/tesco/ect
A giant classic LEGO flower centrepiece would certainly be a conversation starter.
Please don’t provide free marketing data to multi-billion dollar companies.
Printed coasters and the lantern lamp looks nice. It doesn't shout LEGO!, but people who know will know.
Made it six questions in before I died of boredom and had to get out, I'm too old for this ****
I would buy middle and middle-right t-shirts in a heartbeat
"We see people are 3D printing large scale wreaths and flowers themselves. Wanna pay us to do it instead?"
I would like to see them make some things that are reasonably high end. Stuff an actual adult collector would be interested in.
Remember those collector "coins" with the various classic logos they did a couple of years ago? I would like something like that made of actual gold or silver. There are various bullion and collector coins with popular culture icons on them- Star Wars, Harry Potter, superheroes, the Simpsons etc- I would like some Lego ones.
Also, in the past Lego have made items from gold, like the special bricks they give to long serving employees. And Mr Gold of course. I want something more like that too (to go with the silver Lego bricks I have that were made by a craftsman).

Agreed on the T-shirts. When I've bought Lego-themed clothes in the past from third parties they've been replications of minifig torsos: the Classic Space logo or Castle coats-of-arms. (My sister-in-law wants one with the Paradisa 973px5 horse + palm tree design, but I don't think anyone makes that!)
And yes, a coffee table book is a thing. Hard cover, A4 size, designed to look good on a coffee table and for casual browsing rather than cover-to-cover reading. Wikipedia has an informative article on the subject. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee_table_book
I tried taking the survey but it immediately barred me out after the first question. Is it because I'm 17?
The appeal of Lego lies within its size. Enlarging it or slapping it on whatever makes it ugly and renders the item useless
Upscaled brick vases would be perfect for the botanical collection!
They need to do T-shirts that are designed for normal people like myself who are a bit 'fluffy' . >>Insert favourite Gabriel Iglesias quote here <<
Though love the idea of round lego tiles as coasters, and the Ghost light.
Survey:Age and gender

Survey: Where are you from?
Me: Malaysia
Survey: Have you bought anything from Lego.com from the past 12 months?
Me: Nope
Survey: That's it! Thank you for your time!
Me: Wait ... what? That's it? A country with Legoland and there is nothing to ask the AFOLs there?
My 2 cents: Lego should have Lego theme pots for their brick-built flowers. I gave some 40460 roses and 40461 tulips to wifey and till today she still can't find a suitable pot.
I could see myself buying the lantern lamp.
Please, let this mean that we will get a sweet looking night lamp as well storage space and a sweet Hoodia with backpack and t-shirt.
Bring back glow in the dark Ghost minifig suit before teasing some merch, and not via CMF.
Wolfpack showed up in 10332: Medieval Town Square and also LEGO Fortnite, so a 6075: Wolfpack Tower sounds possible if LEGO wants an iconic set with both a Ghost and Wolfpack.

If you’re not a customer of the online shop I doubt it’s worth their while to ask if you exclusively shop in one of the few bricks and mortar shops in the world.
I filled it in earlier, but all the way through I was thinking why am I bothering. Half of this stuff already exists and is a fraction of the price LEGO would charge for it. And the stuff that doesn't exist, well there is probably a reason for it.
I can see that LEGO branded plastic vases might be good for people into botanicals, but that is about it.
I love the idea of the glow in the dark ghost lamp, but I also loved the idea of a glow in the dark sticker of a dogs face as a kid.
The first time the lights went off and there were glowing teeth at the end of the bed there was an emergency evacuation.
Automatically disqualified because I haven't made a purchase at Lego.com in the last 12 months. I buy sets in my local brand store, and in other retailers, and secondhand. I feel that was unfair.

I was thinking about that collaboration just this week. How disappointing that was! The boxes are just ok. I really wished they had come up with a great display system. IKEA shelves are fine and all but I really feel that collab was a missed opportunity.
I have that wreath already. A relative 3D printed one for me.
I never thought of it while I was doing the survey, but I would probably be feel compelled to get an oversized Santa Claus Minifigure. I would not be able to stop myself. Oh my gosh, what if it came with a Mrs. Claus? They would be at the top of the want list!
I WANT A GHOST LAMP!!!!!!!
@illennium said:

Too late. I already gave them the information that they shouldn't invest in merch.
That ghost lamp is hilarious. Depending on size and how much it glows in the dark after you turn it off, could be a thing I'd actually get.
I do enjoy a good old torso t-shirt, as @SDlgo9 mentioned. I've purchased a few in the past and the logos wear off, but the shirts are still comfy.
Love the vase and the lantern lamp, but not particularly grabbed by the others. A t-shirt could be cool but it would have to be a really cool design.
Just sell the giant store display minifigures!
Then if someone wants to turn one into a lamp or something, they can do it themselves.

You've clearly never watched Seinfeld. ;-)
I've seen shirts being sold online with LEGO Castle crests, but they were unofficial. Never seen a Fabuland shirt though. That is kinda cool.
Ghost night light is funny. They could just make it in glow-in-the-dark plastic. Your significant other will thank you for that.

Yes...this was a slap in the face!
I had to select "No" as I have been banned from purchasing from LEGO LEGO.com...so make my purchases in-store. :(
Yo, LEGO-branded cigarettes? Let’s go!
Umm…do I want to know what that hand is doing to that goat?
Can't believe how much idiotic missed-opportunities these demonstrate. They show pictures of hoodies with all-over Christmas-themed designs, but completely miss the chance to ask about, specifically, Christmas designs compared to day-to-day wear.
And then it's all 'would you buy a giant minifig lamp or cookie jar or bunch of flowers?' - just sell us giant minifigures!
Or maybe you'd prefer another 'soft plush' toy made from ultra-dry sackcloth and sandpaper. How about making your 'plushie' toys from some actual soft 'plushie' fake-fur material like everyone else, so they're actually appealing to kids?
Wait, the survey only applies fo people buying from LEGO.com... It does not care about the little guy, who has no internet or WiFi to buy from lego.com.... I am outraged at this lack of consideration for us non-connected outcasts.
Personally, I do not enjoy wearing pop culture merchandise that is explicit and in your face. Like a logo or artwork of something. If they did something more subtle, such as minimalist designs with studs and plates and stuff like that, then maybe! I wish they had more options like that here. I also love crewnecks and saw none.
I do love the lamps and stuff like that, though I wish the design department were aware that some of those elements are outdated and no longer in production, like the flower pieces, and would update them to what currently exists.
I already have the leaf-wreath. A friend 3D printed it. It's my only holiday wreath.
Their current pricing - ceramic mug £22, backpack £40-50, bum-bag £25, plastic storage container (4-stud) £19 (£140 for the wooden version), 2x small fridge magnets £7, water bottle £16, lunch bag £25, basic lunch box £7.
I remember why I don't have much official LEGO merchandise and why I probably wouldn't buy any of these ideas.
Ghost Light is a must
The Lantern should be rechargeable and powerbank
the minifigs next to the lantern, why does the pen look like a cigarette and I dont even smoke!
I want the plush goat right now, i would love to see different colors and sizes I'm think like the Ikea plush rats that i once had quite a few of.
If we ever get the ghost light as a real product, somebody should put Mater from CARS next to it.

(Yes, I know what a coffee table is, but only because I have been to England so often, but I guess not many other people over here would know what to make of that term. It's just not a thing here).

'It's THE GHOST LIGHT!'"
“Ghost light” is also a term we used in stagecraft. When not in use, a stage theatre can be a pretty dangerous place to wander around in. Stage lights are expensive to run, so we had a floor lamp with the shade removed, and a low wattage bulb installed. When you shut the place down for the night, you’d walk the lamp out to the center of the stage, plug it into a wall socket, and it was basically like having a nightlight in the hallway outside your bedroom. And we called it the ghost light.
A Zip-up hoodie would be awesome. I already own LEGO Adidas shoes and shirt and the Target LEGO shirt and sweat pants colab. Most are excellent products except the sweat pants. Not a sweat pants person, I guess.
One of my favorite pieces of merch we've bought was the silicone ice cube trays--which we used to make chocolates for our wedding. Worked great. 4585502
I'd love more adult sized lego t-shirts, of stuff like Bionicle and the logos of the company and themes for like $20 USD, also adult caps as the classic space vip hat was kids sized :(
Also the lantern light is amazing!
I wish they'd do better with the visual dictionaries. do them by year with pictures and information on each set released. Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Superheroes can be their own series of books.
I need those upscaled accessories.
The upscaled Lego stuff compelled me to take t he survey just to state that. The ghost and lantern lamps, vases, and enlarged flower piece would all be bought. Attire-wise, I could see a minifigure torso hoodie/shirt being attractive if done right - like a blue classic space or a Blacktron one.
More lame than that is quite impossible ...
It all depends on the price.
£15 for a T-shirt? Great.
£40 for a T-shirt? Not a chance.

I’ll do the survey, some of those items look great. I’ve bought a fair bit of merch over the years when I think about it - some silicone coasters that I love, bedding, a blanket, a giant bubble bath scuba figure, storage tray units, and 3 official adult sized T-shirts that I wore until they fell apart!
@AustinPowers:
Why would England know what a coffee table is? Do they even know what coffee is?
851400: Upscaled Mug – Red.
Why is that Tahu ( poorly) traced from a build with custom parts? I know the guy who originally made that lol
I want that Tahu shirt!

I would love to see some Lego Star Wars plastic or glass drinking lightsaber hilts, Like those Lego drinking mugs they sold a few years ago
If the LEGO group can start producing storage akin to a Bag of Holding or a TARDIS, then I am interested. For most of the stuff pitched in the survey, I'd have to think long and hard about whether or not I'd have the display space for additional expensive plastic of questionable utility. That said, if LEGO sold tees or mugs with clever designs or something that represented classic themes of my youth well, I'd be tempted.

We Germans normally have what is called a "Couchtisch", which is a fairly large table in front of a couch or in the middle of a couch landscape (typically an L- or U-shaped arrangement of sofa/couch elements).
But that's not where we tend to drink coffee, which is more commonly done in the kitchen or dining room. Come to think of it, practically everyone I know drinks their coffee in the kitchen or at the dining room table.
A Couchtisch rarely serves as more than a place where to put a flower arrangement / candles or various other decorative elements, and in the evening as room for bowls of snacks when watching TV.
When I was in England people had little tables next to their armchairs and settees in the living room, indeed only large enough for a teapot and cuppa, or a magazine or coffee table book. Such tables are quite uncommon over here. Then again, so is the habit of having "afternoon tea / tea time".
Extremely funny that instead of using an actual bionicle set for the shirt, they put some filter over Risebell's MOC without permission
Hrrmmm. I answered that I'm in the US, but I'm getting questions that seem more tailored to the UK, mentioning stuff like "High Street" shopping, and UK-based retailers.
@AustinPowers:
Your "Couchtisch" sounds like a proper coffee table, with a surface area roughly equal to the seating surface of the sofa, and set at about the same height. The tables you describe from England sound more like end tables.

Yeah, I noticed that; Tahu on that shirt very clearly is built different from the original set. I wanted to check if someone identified if it was a particular MOC, and there we go-
Sounds like someone needs another Ferrari for their collection....
We need more "An upscaled LEGO® products" !!!
I did the survey but I mostly picked the lowest price points for what I'd be willing to spend on any of the items they showed. They already try to sell way overpriced licensed merchandise. No way I'd be willing to spend more than $25 on a tee shirt.. The prices of the oversized storage bricks is beyond ridiculous as well as the display cases they sell. The stores they listed, as someone already mentioned, didn't include places I normally shop like Walmart, Target and such. Macy's is an overpriced store for overpriced mediocre designer garbage. I don't want designer collabs with the likes of Adidas, Coach, Tommy Hilfiger & such. I want reasonably priced non-designer items from places like Target, Walmart, Costco, etc. Would love some reasonably priced official Tee Shirts depicting classic Castle, Pirates & Space. I've been tempted to get some unofficial ones from other sources but worry about the quality of the shirts being used by these other sources. The Target X collection a couple of years ago had some nice items at mostly reasonable prices. I wish we could actually get the tee shirts that were recently added to the Brickset database a few months back.
I think I’ve typed “Lord Vortech” more in this survey than anything else. He’s just cool and it major league stinks he’s not a thing I can own.
I like that the highest choice for of sets purchased in the last 12 months is 20+. Like, Lego, give me more options, please. I counted 41 for me in the past 12 months.
Plushie was my number 1 choice for an item followed by the coffee table book, lamp, t-shirt, hoodie, and coasters. Nothing else was interesting to me.

It seems we English actually invented the coffee table. The first recorded as a coffee table being made by E.W. Godwin in 1868. Though, they all seem to have been based on the low tables used in tea gardens by the Ottoman empire, and of course Japan as the Japenese style became popular here in the 1870's.
But yeah, the couchtisch would be what we call a coffee table, and the smaller ones end, or occasional tables.
Coffee Table - AKA The Floor.
if they ever randomly come out with new Galidor merch someday, you know who to blame >:•)
I just want another chance to buy an adult oriented, decent quality Lego wrist watch like the ones they did in 2009 and 2013

I don’t think I ever posted pics of Blacktronicle III. I was never really happy with that one.
Oddly enough, that isn't an actual picture of 8534 on that BIONICLE shirt. It's a fan-made MoC that someone's traced over. Sure yeah, yeah, it's a concept sketch, but usually concept sketches that use other people/company's materials are kept for private reference and not shown to the public.
Someone was really having high hopes on the pricing here. The default option is $50 and the highest is $100+. There's nothing here I'd want to spend more than $20 on, and nothing I can personally see having a value of over $50. Typical corporate accessories, selling something that cost them 5 cents to make for 70 dollars because "brand power."
@magmafrost said:

That term absolutely threw me as well, but then they had a picture of it later on and I was like "oohhhhh, I know what you're talking about."
@GSR_MataNui:
I know that when the first Series 2 CMF pics surfaced, there were some details that got changed for the actual release. One of those changes included actually molding the Spartan helmet and spear instead of using Brickforge parts. Also, the market research leak of the Medieval Village set looks heavily changed compared to what 10332 actually contains. And way back in 2002, I got a booklet at NYTF that showed off most of the upcoming releases for that year. I don't know about anything else, but some of the Bionicle models were not in their finished form, but this book was printed for corporate buyers to get some idea what they were placing orders for, and not really something that was meant to be seen by end consumers.

Treat LEGO.com and brand stores as the same. The important distinction is whether you buy from LEGO directly or from a third party, not whether the purchase is made online or in store.
Moichendizing, moichendizing, moichendizing!!!

I guess not buying from their website within the last 12 months means I am no longer in their target audience. Kinda wish I could've still seen what the rest of the survey had but apparently not.
Some of these responses are hilarious and typically Brickset.
