What do you do with a shipwrecked sailor

Ship Wrecked? I'll say, there's hardly anything left!

This island may be tiny, but it sure is efficient!

By in New Zealand,

Land ahoy! *They forget to slow down and the ship gets wrecked*

And that me hearties, is ‘ow we got ‘ere!

By in United States,

Well, that doesn't seem so bad. There's land just a few studs in every direction. It's not such a big deal to be marooned on a desert island if you can just hop your way to the mainland without ever getting your feet wet.

Yay! My first set from my childhood golden age. Such awesome memories of what were then new parts… firing cannon, treasure chest, bucket, oars, monkeys, parrots… Sorry… just kept going on! :)

Screw raised baseplates, printed baseplates are where it's at. Much easier to MOC with.

Such a classic! 6265 was a bit more impressive, but this one is still so fun. Oddly enough I built a tower this plate a few days ago, but these were used in so many adventures when I was a kid.

By in Canada,

I only have the two ships from the inaugural year, but bits and pieces of some of the others. I am amazed there is such a strong defense of a treasure a monkey gets to play with, but not as amazed as seeing what appears to be a castle in the background!

Not to be confused with the identically named 6296.

By in United States,

I love it--classic story of two enemies being forced to work together or perish. Of course we all know who will win in the end because we all know where they monkey's loyalties lie...

Ooo, this is a classic one. Great parts for such a size. My brother owned this set--still does--and we had lots of fun with this (and other sets from this theme).

I also had this set as a kid. Simple, but so many neat elements to it. I still love the use of the crow's nest piece as a makeshift boat.

Certainly not. People have a tendency to just vanish at that island!

Once again, LEGO ripping us off. PPP is unconscionable. Only 2 minifigs? Yet another parrot and monkey? This also looks incredibly similar to that rejected Ideas submission. And don’t get me started on that printed baseplate. Couldn’t they give us brick built foundation?

By in Australia,

I have a feeling the pirate on the left is Jesus. What were LEGO's rules about religion again?

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

I'm sure they would have preferred to have some food instead of the cannon and cannon balls in very short future.

By in Norway,

This was one of the first Pirate sets me or my brother got back in the day. After mostly been into City and Castle before that I was blown away by the Pirates in 1989!
I have always liked the soldiers best, but this is a fantastic little set with 2 pirates, parrot, monkey, 8 gold coins, brown cannon, palm tree etc.. Most of those great parts are gone now unfortunately, if you only could get the monkey, gold coins or palm tree back what would you choose of those 3?

Gravatar
By in Estonia,

I love the little hidey-hole where you can "bury" the treasure. So many play elements in a tiny set!

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

I love the shipwrecked sets.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Always wanted that bath tub/crow's nest thing...

Back in the '90s those parts were really rare!

Also note, that this set has at least two versions: One with a gray baseplate, one with a blue (both look the same on the upper side though, due to the print). Not sure which one came first.

By in Poland,

Golden age of Lego. Or should I say, Chrome Golden age of Lego.

That cannon looks a bit excessive for a mere monkey, though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Every "Pirate Theme" special part in one set. They said it couldn't be done in a lower cost set, but the designer said, " Challenge accepted. "

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Sadly missed it as a kid, I am glad to obtain it years later.

I miss those picture scenes. Back in the day I could look at them for long time, just for catching the details and feeling the adventurous vibe

By in United Kingdom,

Looks more like a sandbar to me, you want to be careful your little cannon fort set up doesn’t sink right back into the ocean next high tide

Gravatar
By in Germany,

This set was your budget caribbean dream! The sundown box design added a lot to kick off pirate adventure fantasy, and here you have a great start for the film in your head: two guys survived the storm, as miraculously did the treasure. But how do you get it away from here? And can you trust your mate? Or the monkey?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I just realized that there's some sort of castle or fort in the background.

Fun set, especially if you were a kid on a budget.

Loved this set! Had City, Castle, Space and Pirates sets, but the Pirates were the greatest! More realistic. Continuing @unslipped list; eyepatch, mustaches, 5 o'clock beard, palm tree, those hats,... Later add more pirates, a boat, shark and the Islanders and "Spaniards"! And what are pirates without someone to attack and plunder, got me self some "Englishmen" set 6263 with admiral! Never had captain Roger/Redbeard, but had chance to play with one at friend. Great times :'D
(I drooled over set 6267)

sigh....the good old days.

By in Sweden,

Just built my...third one of these the other day? Great little set, I'm going to use one or two around in my future pirate setup. Maybe have one next to Forbidden Island, and one out in the middle of the ocean with a few palms and a skeleton.

It's also an incredible parts pack for world-building. Pirates are easy to color swap, and more cannons, treasure, trees, monkeys, flags, parrots, and barrels are always welcome.

I think I only had one pirate set as a kid, a little tiny raft, but these printed baseplates were a dream. Truly this pairs perfectly with Sabre Island, maybe if you add one more small pirate set so it's an even match.

By in United States,

I feel like this is the OG version of 8397, which I always thought was a cute little set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh my. When I first saw this set in the LEGO catalog I was hooked. I daydreamed about it (obsessively) for months until I finally saved up enough money to buy it. I didn't get an allowance (we were pretty poor), so I was literally saving pennies. But boy was that a great day when I finally got it.

It's got everything. A Monkey, a Parrot, two Pirates, treasure, a barrel to row around in, a cannon, and a Palm Tree, all on a little island baseplate. Still probably my favorite LEGO Pirates set ever.

I always liked the ones with multiple themes represented on the cover, like this one from the year Pirates was introduced: https://images.brickset.com/library/view/?f=catalogues/c89us2 I like the vibe of "Look who's coming to join the party..."

I miss the super thin coins.

@Lego_lord:
Well, they could always shoot the monkey or the parrot, but if I’ve learned anything from watching the new Shogun miniseries, it’s that there won’t be much left besides feathers and fur.

@Roebuck:
Monkey. I came up with my own palm tree design, I was never happy with the fact that minifigs couldn’t hold the coins, and modern monkeys just can’t get into much mischief without articulation.

@Arnoldos:
Is it just a regular monkey, or is it one of those cursed, unkillable, undead monkeys that looks normal in daylight?

Mokekee do the sloppy swish!

(Please tell me I’m not the only one who remembers this abomination. I’m not the only one subjected to the torture that is SNL.)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

My favorite baseplate. I've had this since the 90s and it is still awesome.
