Random minifig of the day: cty1447

Posted by ,

Today's random minifigure is cty1447 Robot Dog 0-JO, a Town figure that came in one set, 60354 Mars Spacecraft Exploration Missions, released during 2022.

Our members collectively own a total of 1,754 of them. If you'd like to buy one you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $1.00.

Ok, I understand Star Wars droids, but I wouldn't have thought this would get one. Do the Friends robots get a classification as Minifigure?

Cute but not a minifigure.

It’s a shame to me that the Lego city missions sets never took off, I had a lot of fun with them!

I would pet the robot dog

The real K9 from 71204-1 is the best robot dog in all of time, space, and the alternate dimensions.

They were great parts wise, but the app thing could turn people away, needing a phone to build it, with no alternative paper instructions for such a small model, a paper instruction for the main rocket base model could easily have fit in the box, instead of just that QR code leaflet, or at the very least a downloadable instruction pdf (like LEGO has done for 4th models in some 3-in-1)

Unlike Nexo, Vidiyo, or Hidden Side, you actually do need an app to see offcial instructions (inside the storyline)

That said, I think the app story was fun enough, and encouraging kids to build through various scenarios is nice , however an app should never be required imo.

THAT'S AN AWESOME MINIFIG!!!

I can't believe I didn't realize/see that in that set. I need it!! Ok, I just need that eye print.

It's the descendant of 8399 : K-9 Bot.

By in Australia,

I really liked the Mission sets too. But, see, I waited until stores started clearancing them out, because they definitely didn't sell well. So I picked them up pretty cheaply, and I just had to wait until some helpful web user uploaded the building process to a YouTube video.

I agree that putting the instructions as an app thing only is definitely a mistake. The great thing about Lego is how interactive it is. I imagine parents don't buy Lego to give kids *more* screen-time. Study after study keeps telling us that people, and particularly young people, are better with as little screen-time as possible, not more.

Yeah, I do agree on the app part, but still, it was a very fun line of sets!

Affirmative!

By in United States,

This is as much as well… a, a, Lego dog figure.
They should start doing a random brick built figure of the day for things like this.

I don't know if any Friends robots specifically have turned up as random minifigs, but it doesn't seem like more of a stretch than some of the other things we've gotten in 2024 like shg032 and cty1066.

Ooh I have this. From that stupid set where you had to use a very annoying App.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I feel like you’re supposed to put a clear bar in the tail, so a minifig kid can push it around without obviously doing so.

Gravatar

The prototype of the mini rover drone from 60431.

Yeah, they do. Look up Zobo, Zobito, and Zobita in the search bar.

Fair point.

By in Germany,

Only Yesterday I looked at this set and thought: The Missions were a fun Idea. Too bad LEGO screwed up again.

The one in 60432 does NOT count as minifigure, though it is argably more humanoid than this robodog.

@iwybs First in a line that will produce the one from 8399 , eventually.

We started building 60354 recently, and the app crashes on my son's fairly decent iPad part way through the second bag – rather undermining the whole point.

By in Spain,

I can't believe that this is the reason that space mission has only 3 real minifigs and the other 4

But if this is less relevant than some of animals you get in the animal rescue one

8399 is the best rendition of a robot dog to date!

I think Missions could've been a great theme if they actually expanded to other themes like Ninjago - or even to licensed themes, like Star Wars and Harry Potter! But it seems like LEGO was too afraid to take any risks with this theme, and they kept the sets confined to City. And in the end, that cost them dearly.

It could also just be the "Every LEGO theme tied to an app is automatically doomed" case as well. Rest in peace Nexo Knights, rest in piss Fusion.

It amuses me that Vidiyo was such a spectacular, unmitigated failure that it didn't even rate a mention.

Looks very similar to the mini rover from 60431 :)

And that’s one of the two main problems with any app they’ve released. They make sure it works on one or two of the latest greatest devices, and then don’t bother with anything else. This results in customers often needing to find out what device they need to upgrade to if they ever want to use the app. The other problem is they drop support for the apps in a New York second, so good luck actually keeping the app going long-term. I got a couple copies of the app-controlled Batmobile, and made sure to snag one of the physical remotes because I _know_ they’re going to come out with a replacement for PU, and woe betide anyone who depends on an app to actually run their PU components.

@AverageChimaEnjoyer:
Fusion?

I’m going to assume this is like Star Trek V, where my brain evicted all knowledge of it for just cause, and it’s not worth the pain and suffering of reminding myself of what I clearly needed to forget.

By in Romania,

I think that a separate category should be made for figures that aren't really minifigs but should still be considered alive (and also count robots like this fig).
Suggested name: Midifigs
