This doesn't look very Atreides to me...

By in Australia,

I'm impressed that my first thought was a reference to "Power Rangers Turbo" (but I was getting my zords mixed up, because the yellow zord was Dune Star and the blue zord was Mountain Blaster), but everyone else went with "Dune" references, except for the one Star Wars throw-back.

Who'd have thought the concept of dunes was so universal?

By in New Zealand,

This looks nothing like a Star Wars gun from Tatooine!

The bike looks cool. Looks like fun builds.

How dare it attempt to blast Arrakis, AKA Dune. (which was its Fremen name according to Paul Atreides in pt. 2)

Ugh. I just picked that up and rewatched it for the first time since it opened. That line definitely raised my eyebrow. Turns out "dune" comes from Middle Dutch by way of French, which is definitely not the cultural group Herbert modeled the Fremen after. Nor does it sound Fremish. Arrakis does, however. Great movie, but there are just a few little details that feel like paper cuts.

Yes, an incredible movie. Better than part 1. I went and saw part 2 on the night it opened at the cinemas, the experience you get from them is great!

By in United Kingdom,

But neither version appears to be armed; what will they be blasting the dunes with? Get some artillery on that buggy, stat!

By in Finland,

This is why I like old sets; nowadays it would be named simply "Dune Buggy" and there wouldn't even be a suggestion of an alternate build.

By in Netherlands,

Middle to late 90s technic was fascinating. After about acdecade of relatively little change, we suddenly go from that style to a style that rapidly evolves into studlessness from 1996-2004.

Thisxset is from before that era. It's the year of the greatest supercar frm the classic building style, as the next one is already using the advancements of 1999. And with the flex hose housings you can roughly pinpoint its era, but not by much else except maybe th wheels.

By in Netherlands,

In 1994 I turned 22 and I was about to embark on a new journey in my life: I left the family home to start living on my own. All I took with me was a small briefcase (8062-1) After some tinkering with its contents I scratched my head, thinking about what to do next? Being a young petrol head and loving to drive fast cars, I wished I could have made my dream come true by becoming an F1 driver, but I soon accepted I wasn't made for it plus I only had the funds to drive a go-kart, so I saved up for a small F1 Racer (8808-1).
But after a short while I got bored driving the same laps over and over again, so I went off-road! (8816-1) I really liked driving in the wild though the terrain was pretty limited. Then I watched the Dakar rally on TV and said to myself: "Now THAT is... (nope, SW EP I was still 5 years away... no podracing...!) but I wanted to go faster while still boldly going where no man has gone before!" So that's when I strapped myself in this dune buggy (8829-1) and went crazy in the desert (nope, not on Tatooine but you get the picture) However going fast I wasn't exactly driving carefully -I was still only 22 mind you, young and still somewhat reckless- so my dune buggy (and I) got sandBlasted all the way! Fortunately, while being stranded in the Dunes, some Rebel drove by in his off-road tow-truck (8858-1) to pick me up, along with my self-Wrecked dune buggy. Yeah, that was quite the motoring year for me. After that adventure I took it back a notch and went back to the tarmac... but not going any slower (8880-1)!

And now, 30 years later? Well, I still like driving cars... but going a little easier these days, being a 50+ father and all. For now I'll just stick to my (t)rusty, old Ford Mondeo family wagon, but I'll never forget what a Blast I had in the dunes! ;-)

You didnt? I thought you were referencing the bionicle knockoff "dreambuilders: masters of disaster" which is a large meme in the bionicle fanbase. I guess I was wrong though, so that's kinda embarrassing.

By in Czechia,

This set was my first LEGO set ever. I can remember building it and taking it apart over and over again.

Totally true. Also - you have a great username!

This is one I have - rarely - and it's actually a pretty decent set!
