Brickset set categories

This page describes how we categorise the items in our database for the purposes of sets collection analysis, which includes only normal items.

Links on the headings lead to lists of all items in that category.

Normal

Normal sets are those with numeric set numbers, usually printed on the box or bag, in the following numeric ranges:

• 1 - 64999
• 70000 - 99999
• 2000000 - 2000499
• 3300000 - 3399999
• 4000000 - 4099999

Exceptions

• Sets with random contents. e.g. the {Random} entries of the collectable minifigure series
• Product collections, although most are excluded anyway as they are numbered in the 65000-69999 range.

Extended

Items categorised as extended include:

• Supplementary sets usually only sold in brand stores
• Some Toys R Us promotional items
• BrickLink Designer Program sets
• Recent Educational sets

Collection

Sets containing other sets e.g.

• Bonus/value packs
• 'Virtual' product collections sold at LEGO.com
• Complete sets and sealed boxes of collectable minifigures

Random

Sets where the contents are unknown:

• Collectable minifigures and Super Mario figures {Random bag/box} entry
• Duplo polybags {Random} entry

Other

• Magazine gifts
• Items with non-numeric set numbers

Gear

• Items in the 'Gear' theme

Book

• Items in the 'Book' theme
