Racers was a cool theme. The minifig-scale sets were predecessors of Speed Champions, models like this set were like Technic, And the Tiny turbos were the Lego version of hot wheels!
"I beg your pardon, but what do you mean, 'naked?'"
*beeps*
"My parts are showing?! My goodness!"

Oh no you don't, you can't edit your way out of this one. You were caught in the act; own it.

I edited it before you replied, you realised.
I just did that because I wanted to be first, so often I say something, then edit it later.
I can see why this set would be so pricey on the aftermarket —- bad sticker quality notwithstanding — it looks great!

How did you beat me to this exact comment?!
I guess it's that obvious as to what this (and, for me, all Technic sets) looks like. ;)

25th Anniversary was just a couple days ago, it was on the brain.
Is anyone else unnerved by being stared down by a judgmental kitty when they pull up the BS webpage these days?! O__O

Wanting to be first is appropriate with an RSotD like this one.

No. Not even a little bit. Have I ever told you about my first cat, Pepper?
I have this one. Not as nice as the super cars because it did not have a transmission and suspension. Still it was a fun build.
Still a looker.

For whatever reason these old generation sets look superior to the current ones. They still looked like Lego BUT they also had that extra that it was no longer just a child's toy. Used to own all of them, now I wish I kept them.

Found 8671 from this line in a charity shop for £8 with a few missing pieces- I've fixed it up and now it's worth about £210. I'll sell it to subsidise the cost of Rivendell!
I mean......... they didnt even attempt to form Wheel arches. The sides are ok, cant see the back but wow some big gaps. I loved Racers but the smaller scale ones.
I actually like the incomplete bodywork. The shape is still very recognizable, but it doesn't hide what's underneath....unfortunately there isn't that much to hide. So this is kind of the opoosite of the more recent range of Technic supercars that do have all the features hidden behind panels....

What.... (he asked with dramatic trepidation in his voice) happened to Pepper?
I love this era. The comments about the lack of coverage made me for the first time even realize that this wasn't fully covered. I'm so used to sets of the era having suggestions of shaping instead of having every covered up completely that I didn't even notice before. You could still see the actual set underneath. It didn't just need to be a frame for a hollow shell to cover.

Probably lost in the same place the Ark of the Covenant was sent to at the end of Raiders. Also known as PurpleDave's house XD
Ah, the supercar in its native habitat before it invaded Technic.

853-1 Car Chassis, 8860 Car Chassis, 8865 Test Car, 8880 Super Car, 8448 Super Street Sensation... all a line of supercar sets from Technic before Racers was even a theme. Note that in this context the term 'supercar' was historically used by fans to refer to flagship-sized technic cars, not necessary high-performance cars like the term likely refers to in the real world. That said, the last two still fall under that category.
But pedantics aside, I understand what you mean. Licensed supercars depicting real-world brands of cars used to be a tad bit rarer before 42056: Porsche 911 GT3 RS made it on the scene.
And in the span of 8 years we've had about 7 more of those ginormous branded car models, not even counting the smaller ones depicting the same type of cars: 42083, 42096, 42115, 42125, 42143, 42154. Some of those 7 seem to be race cars but they showed up with the tag? Anyway, that's nearly one a year, every year now.
Either way, that's one titanic-sized 300-440 euro costing juggernaut supercar every two years in addition to the smaller ones of 'merely' 200 euro!

No, I know the extremes, I've done it, I used to regularly be the first comment before you started participating in RSotD. If I weren't so addicted to Discord causing me to stay up so late, I'd have been asleep. When RSotD was an hour earlier, I was a regular for being first because it was the perfect way to end the day. Ultimately it was just chasing likes, and I'm still kind of doing that, but now it's more about keeping the comment streak alive because I haven't missed a day for sets since late 2019. My life is just that exciting. Don't be like me.

£210 - wow - that much? I’ve got one in opened box/bags still sealed condition, unfortunately it looks like one of the smaller bags has gone missing, but hopefully they are all inexpensive and easy to find parts. Stickers still all on the sheet thankfully.
What should I do with it? Sell it as is, replace missing parts and sell? Or replace missing parts and build? (then sell) - I had it in my mind it might be worth £50 or so but if it’s a lot more valuable than that then time for someone else to enjoy it.

Pepper joined the Army, became a Sergeant, created a Lonely Hearts Club Band and became famous. Maybe you've heard of that band? It was 30 years ago today, Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play...

Nothing happened to Pepper. Pepper was the thing that happened to other animals. She was the half-feral rescue cat I got as a kid, and who delivered uncounted rodents, two baby bunnies, several robins, a cardinal, half a snake, and a hummingbird to us. And she once was about to tangle with a fox.
@Binnekamp:
Pepper would need the Grail, not the Ark. She was an 80’s cat.
Guys, which one would you perfer? Old Technic, or New Technic?

Apparently, Sgt. Pepper wrote love songs for Dreadflipper.

Depends on what you consider "old" and "new".
I think both have their pros and cons, and ideally I'd want to see a mix with the good parts of both.
Old Technic was generally more focussed on functionality than looks, and didn't try to hide it all. Also, with Technic bricks everything was way more rigid than now with beams and pins. And looking at it as a toy: I'd say the old style was more intuitive in the sense that it's much closer to classic studded construction where you start at the bottom and build up from there, whereas studless technic demands much more thinking in three dimensions and many more steps ahead. Just look at the building process of many "new" sets: Nothing makes sense until it suddenly does.
On the other hand, with all the modern parts and construction techniques made possible by those, mechanisms can be so much more compact and therefore more complex, offering opportunities that in the 80s were simply unthinkable. I mean, good luck building a motorbike like the Ducati or Kawasaki with that same functionality with 80s pieces. And don't even think of a sports car with a 8-speed gearbox....
And in some regards both are equally terrible. I mean, blue pins vs. the original black pins, both should burn in hell...

Although it's not all good. Most of the time reviews and set reveals are posted when i'm asleep, so my comment is quite far down the list.
holy cow, there seems to be an entire argument going on here!
anyways, i find it kinda funny this set's price went from $79.99 to $799.00
well, at least according to brickset price averaging anyway. a quick bricklink check shows that the price is closer to $100-150
still kinda funny though

Honestly I have no idea where the £210 price estimate came from - a *sealed copy* will only sell for around £100 on Bricklink
