By in United States,

4 wide big rigs. Feels like a bit of an oxymoron, but most big rigs really aren't much wider than your standard car either. Maybe 6 wide would be better.

Big rigs? Are they winner?

(No one's going to get this joke but whatever)

One of the best Town sets, IMO. It's in my top five favourite Town sets of all time.

Little 5 year old Java wanted this set so badly, but couldn't afford it.
Now he's 42 with some disposable income, and still can't afford it.

Wow that was fast lol. And yes, that episode was legendary. "Over the road, under the road, it doesn't matter!!"

Its from a simpler time where everything was 'LEGO scale' and did not have to be ultra realistic 'speed champion like' vehicles.

By in Netherlands,

A great set if you're into american trucks and highways. It captures so much about the setting and includes plenty of things to do. Using two baseplates and the scae of trucks makes it feel properly big too! It's night and day to City where vehicles often nearly dwarf buildings, especially when there are multiple.

No.
They are actually functional, have collision and not part of something legendarily awful XD

Wow, a set from my prime LEGO phase that I have not yet seen or known of at all. That's a rare occurance.
And what a cool set it is.
Must have been a regional exclusive since I can't find it in any of my catalogs from the time.
Otoh it has a normal LEGOLAND Stadt set number in the 63xx range, whereas exclusives from the era usually had 1xxx set numbers. Weird one.

By in Germany,

One of those sets that make you want to ask prosuct management: Why do you make cool ideas limited in access? You're supposed to make money, don't you?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

What a cool set.

From google $53 in 1987 is now worth $147, so not surprised very rare with new ones $2422 although used around $160. The break down truck with two hooks is unusual but trucks are very heavy, just not sure how it gets around the tight Lego corners.

Maybe an American type*? Matchbox had one with two hooks on a Peterbuilt platform for ages in their portfolio.

*I'm so NOT an expert on breakdown units.

The 4-stud rigs looked pretty cool

By in Germany,

A very cool set. A bit aged, but still nice.

Really a shame this was only available in so few regions.

Also notice this is only 1 of 2 sets to come with a grey baseball cap.

I have a friend who claims that Maximum Overdrive is a prequel to Cars.

My Grandma got this set for me for Christmas when I was 7. It was A LOT of money for her and she was as excited for me to open it as I was to get it. This was my favorite set of childhood and seeing this now makes me remember what a wonderful Grandma I had.

One of the best classic town sets, up there with Public Works Center and Victory Lap Raceway in my opinion.

My favorite feature is the clamshell design which works well in pretty much any configuration alongside other road plates.
