Random minifig of the day: bat008

Posted by ,

Today's random minifigure is bat008 Killer Croc, a Batman I figure that came in one set, 7780 The Batboat: Hunt for Killer Croc, released during 2006.

Our members collectively own a total of 3,621 of them. If you'd like to buy one you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $51.40.

I have it, but frankly if I want to put this character on a layout, I really prefer the TLBM version or I also picked up a spare copy of Leatherhead from TMNT. I also made a custom version of Croc from the Suicide Squad movie.

I put the other bigfig version out once. Once. People were asking why Batman was fighting Abomination.

Yeah, I do like that one you shared. The Killer Croc I own is the other bigfig, https://brickset.com/minifigs/sh0280/ .

You that mean that bigfig I referenced above? How on earth are mistaking Killer Croc for Abomination?

@LuvsLEGO_Cool_J:
He doesn't have a very croc-like face. That's the plus side of TLBM or Leatherhead. They both have very obviously crocodilian heads.

Ahhhh, classic LEGO Batman. Can't help but love this very scary looking minifig.

This is probably still the best version of Croc in my opinion, it reminds me of the cover of Batman 471. The classic crocodile-head one is fun, but he doesn't usually have a snout like that.

By in Germany,

Never have seen any Batman story involving this guy (aside those like 2 seconds he appeared in the Lego Batman Movie...). Still like this figure a lot.

He was the first to have a head in "proper" green, right?

"I THREW A ROCK AT 'IM..."-Killer Croc (Batman the Animated Series):D

Have figure, have set; wish I had a Croc in 'Big Fig' as I think that version looks better, but what can ya' do sometimes...:)

Was it? Oh, hey, appears so. Three year gap following TLM, and an even longer gap before that. Everything since is the more detailed, alligator-like head.

One time I made a red recolor of this figure in Mecabricks. He is my original character.

By in Germany,

I used this figure's head on a custom Star Wars Bossk for years, before there was an official Bossk figure. Not entirely accurate but it sure gets the point across.

By in Netherlands,

Yesterday I watched the B:TAS episode where he escaped into the wilderness and was adopted by circus performers. Great timing.
Most of the Batman I figs heavily remind me of their animated series counterparts, but croc is a weird case where the fig isn't like that design at all. He also might be a bit too detailed. And he's a lot greener (he'd have to be light gray or sand green white in 2006 colors).

Overall, I absolutely dispise how quickly Batman I became unoptainably expensive when the sets were great for their time ad the figs are in some cases amongst the best iterations (two-face) or rarely ever done again (Bane, Alfred). I get why. But I don't like how we've had more than a decade of Batman II and things just have never gotten that close since.

Take the set this minifig came from. The speedboat used by croc can dock on the batboat, as can the bat-speedboat. There's also turning turbines and even storage containers. It's just a good complete set. Many of the theme also featured gadgets built into the vehicles and hidden weapons. You don't see that much anymore on minifig-scale stuff.

Super Heroes in general went a very weird way IMHO.
Not sure if this was dictated by the licence owners or not (even if, why would the owners want this???). Having a more unified style approach could tie this whole thing way better into both itself and Lego City. So why go for that hap-hazard movie tie-ins other than corporate stupidity?

I wasn't expecting one of the reasons why I hate the Sonic fanbase to pop up in an article about a Batman-baddie. Don't worry! The list is long."

One wears a lab coat and has a tail, the other doesn't have that coat and also typically lacks a tail. Otherwise, they are very much the same.

And that's one of the reasons the episode's one of my top 10...maybe top 5...:)
And for who don't know, check Batman: The Animated Series episode "Almost Got 'Im". Basically five of Bat's foes are hiding from the police in a villains-only bar ('The Stacked Deck') and start telling stories of how close they came to beating/killing Bats. They are:
-Two Face
-Poison Ivy
-Killer Croc
-Penguin
-Joker
Stories go in order listed, until...nah, too good to spoil, even this many years later.:D

By in United States,

Hey, I have this guy--if I find and reassemble his parts. His set was a "sorry you broke your leg" gift from my Mom when I was in college, and MIGHT just be the last LEGO she ever gave me.

Alas, but I never really cared for Batman/Superhero LEGO of any sort, so I think parts of him, at least, are a troll/ork warrior.
