Random set of the day: Police ATV
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 30228 Police ATV, released during 2014. It's one of 41 City sets produced that year. It contains 40 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 4,397 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $5.10, or eBay.

I do quite like the 2014 City police officer minifigures.
check out bro, driving a quad bike without a helmet
the audacity
City’s golden age
Ironically the 2024 version is pretty good: 30664: Police Off-Road Buggy Car especially like the use of the 'thill for gig' part (not as good as 30663: Space Hoverbike, which is about the same, but still...:))
From that time where you could army build an entire legion of police ATVs given how many of them were popping up.
Guess the kids liked to get them with their pocket money.

30663 is a great little set. Reminds me of classic space small sets. I got 3 and varied them a little.

I disagree. City’s golden age was 2008-2012.

Bad Cop, the early days
It's wild how many sets could be accurately described as a police ATV even if only two sets are officially called that. After about 1996 you could confidently assume most of all town vehicles produced are ATVs of some sort, there are more policemen, firefighters, mailmen, farmers, researchers, even astronauts in LEGO City that drive ATVs out there than drive cars at this point.
And honestly so few of them even look like a regular four-wheeler type thing, they're all just weird go-karts with really big tires going by how many of them have steering wheels instead of handlebars.
LEGO City Police apparently has all the funding in the world but their beat cops are out there driving go-karts around town, where's all that money going?

Nothing like bringing a quad to an exotic hypercar fight to make you feel woefully inadequate.
As far as this type of vehicle goes, this is really good. The white lines on the side and the headlights do a lot for it.
Is an offroad vehicle street legal? Feels like this guy may be taking the law into his own hands.
I'm not sure if an ATV is much good as catching speeding motorists, or does he just scare them to slow down by waving handcuffs in their rear view mirror. The ATV would be more realistic and fun driven by a National Park forester chased by a hungry bear (plus the bear would ensure that the set price has more than doubled in 10 years).

That may be your answer, @MCLegoboy.

He should get a ticket for that.

Many street legal vehicles sport ORV stickers. This probably isn’t one of them, but some communities do allow (or _only_ allow) driving golf carts, and other similar vehicles on the streets. Heck, there’s at least one community where you can land your plane on the street and taxi it into your attached garage. Yes, I’m 100% serious about that, but I can’t remember where it is.
I have a lot of nostalgia for the mid-2010s era of LEGO City. Between the awesome police sets and LEGO City Undercover (peak gaming experience), this was the time to be a LEGO kid.
Also,
WHOOOP WHOOP! THAT'S THE SOUND OF DA POLICE!
FLINT LOCKWOOD!!!
The 2014 Police sets were absolute cimema
They were everywhere because in the UK they gave them away free with copies of The Sun newspaper early in the year - along with 3 or 4 other sets. A different one each day for a week.
