Quick look: 71487 Z-Blob's Robot and Vehicle Adventures

Posted by ,

Following the positive response to my review of 71488 Bunchu's Creative Animal Adventures, I thought I would take a quick look at the other small Dreamzzz set designed to foster creativity: 71487 Z-Blob's Robot and Vehicle Adventures.

It too is a 20-in-1 set which, as its name suggests, is suitable for making robots, and various types of vehicle for Z-Blob to travel in, or on.

Summary

71487 Z-Blob's Robot and Vehicle Adventures, 121 pieces.
£8.99 / $9.99 / €9.99 | 7.4p/8.3c/8.3c per piece.

Another versatile set that encourages creativity

The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.

The 121 pieces in the set include over 20 small ball joints.

The main male protagonist of Dreamzzz is Mateo and here he's attired in 'ghost classic space' pyjamas. It's an attractive torso and unique to this set.

His hairpiece is unique to the character and this particular one has a splash of red and lime green print at the front.

Z-Blob is a dream creature imagined by Mateo. It takes various guises and sizes in the sets but in this one it's actually a printed trans-green flower piece. White ones were used in the Canterbury bells in 10342 Pretty Pink Flower Bouquet.

The main mech stands about 8cm high and is equipped with a stud shooter and blades. It's articulated on all main joints giving it a high degree of poseability.

I had not encountered the 2x2 'half circle' tiles used for its pectorals before: the range of tile shapes seems to be growing exponentially nowadays!

As with 71488 Bunchu's Creative Animal Adventures, instructions for the main model and nine others are provided with the set:, those for ten more can be downloaded as a PDF. They are all designed for Z-Blob to ride in.

Here are some of the more interesting ones in the book:

This walker is from the PDF but can just about be reverse engineered from the small picture at the back of the instructions which adds to the fun and challenge.

It's another cracking set that's great for encouraging creativity and also a pretty good parts pack for AFOLs. The minifig is quite appealing, too. At £8.99/$9.99/€9.99 you can't go wrong...

By in New Zealand,

I have no interest in Dreamzzz, but that build is very cute, and Mateo's outfit is very cool.

These prices are insanely... good? Cheap, entry-level sets make feel like Lego isn't the dastardly conglomerate it has become. Maybe they're going back to the fun days like when they had free monthly mini-builds for kids.

I love that little Z-blob piece, and the Futuron pajamas are fun too.

Would love to see more sets like this for different themes. Obviously Dreamzzz lends itself to the wild and wacky things you could make very well (like the robo-camel that is the last picture here) but I could easily see it working for a classic space one-off, or with Elves when that was still going

Grey ball joints aside this seems like a really nice set.

Dreamzzz is doing quite some things right.

Ask not for whom the Canterbury bell tolls. It tolls for Z-blob.

Z-Blob kind of reminds me of a Futurama Brain Slug

Somebody has commented that zblob looks like a condom piece and I cannot unsee it.

As suggested, a good parts pack methinks

I'm not the target audience for Dreamz, but I love how creative and well done the designs are with the sets and figures. Smaller sets like this pretty much prove that you don't need multi thousand pieces to do great things.

After the previous quick look review, I went and browsed through the Dreamzzz line up. It seems most of the sets have alternate builds, often multiple options.
Maybe I'll pick some up for some creative fun.

And another thought, I wonder what the possibilities are for combining 71487 & 71488 for even whackier models.

I got two of these January 1st! It might be one of my favorite 2025 sets so far!

I'm so happy this theme exists. And that they made these two sets even in its third year!

The next Lego order I place is almost certainly going to be a CMF six-pack and this.

Loving the Futuron torso.

This is now the SECOND classic space torso that Dreamzzz has given us, after the dark blue BAM classic space torso last year.

This feels like a modern version of the x-pods. Minus the actual pods, of course, but the models have the same feel and I love it.

If I learned anything from watching that show, it's that when anyone says, "Good news, everyone," it never is.

Ya' know...I surprised nobody's done a little 'bit' with a Z-Blob and a Dr. Peter Venkman minifig...:D

Also Mateo's PJs make me think it's like he's will be Mr. Oz's successor (Classic Space moving to Futuron):)
