Wall-E gets face lift, heads off to 10k
Posted by glenbricker,Wall-E has been a fan favorite on Ideas almost from the beginning. The little robot from Pixar just goes so darn well with LEGO.
Wall-E campaigns have taken several setbacks in the past but with MacLane (Pixar veteran AND creator of the Cubedude) we finally have a Wall-E rocketing to the 10k mark.
If you have not stopped by MacLane's Wall-E campaign in a while, make sure to do so. The updates to the robot's eyes really bring out the emotion in the little guy's face and demonstrates how each brick matters.
Update: It has now reached 10,000 votes!

THAT IS SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!! My little bros. loved trying to create their own version of wall-e and I LOVE that legos and wall-e are finnaly coming together! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!
I love this project, really hope it makes it all the way.
damnit... website error prevents me from logging in....
redirect loop which gotc aught by firefox
Looks amazing, great attention to detail everywhere. From that pic it looks like the techniques used are fairly normal...hopefully this will be the next set without too many changes.
I had the same issue with Chrome but IE worked just fine.
I really hope this one makes it through the review and to the stores. It looks great.
This one seems pretty likely. The license is already there (created by someone in the license itself), and the model itself is great. I would be scared of the Ideas revision process, since it's almost perfect as it is.
And it's designed by a guy from Pixar who's already well-known for his Cubedude models as well. This would be an excellent set.
It is a shame that Ideas does not work so well on mobile phones.
My favourite favourite favourite Disney character......fingers crossed this gets made!
I still have to wonder somewhat over the Ideas guidelines regarding IP and whatnot. Yes, LEGO already has a partnership with Disney (Toy Story, Princess), but that does not guarantee that this will fly... I hope that it does.
This will be interesting if it gets made into a set and LEGO do a whole theme of Wall-E sets...
I'm in love! Wall-E is such a great little character, and Maclane translated it in LEGO bricks in the best way possible.
My fear is that the model seems to have a lot of pieces. I'd say it would be around 500-600 pieces... but I'm not very good in estimation games, so I may be wrong! Would the size be a problem anyway? Hopefully not, because as it is, it's all lined up to be a great project!
I really hope that this little guy makes it into production. Good luck Wall-E!!!
I would be suprised that if this didn't make it because LEGO had the license with Pixar and also the movie did really well with kids.
I really love this and also other Lego ideas, but sad that almost no one uploads instructions to build the ideas by yourself. Because unfortunately I'm not such a good mocer :(.
C'est la vie
Now we just need that Minas Tirith that is at 4600 votes to get to 10k.
I have yet to see the movie. But from pictures, this looks pretty spot on!
I may be interested in purchasing it, if it is the right price.
I feel the main issue with 'Lego Ideas' is simply that sets like this will not be chosen in a similar case to the 'Female mini-figure' set being chosen over the architecture or Zelda set... Lego don't want to have to get associated with more brands and give them a share.
As such, don't expect this to ever be made into a set. Expect a different set such as 'LEGO Bird Project' to be selected due to lack of associated brand.
I don't know if anybody else noticed, but I just checked and it seemed to have 10,000 votes! congratulations to the builder, I'd love to own this as a set.
This is really cute and definitely has brand fit. They also already made sets based on Disney-Pixar's Cars, as well as Brave, so they probably wouldn't have much trouble there. I just hope this doesn't affect the (probably already slim) chances of Assualt on Wayne Manor or the X Mansion getting made into sets.
Yes, Wall-E! There is even a picture of Andrew Stanton (director of Wall-E) holding it.
Personally, I felt even if it gets officially approved to be an Ideas set , the model will likely get downsized, I don't think there is a chance of an Ideas set being this big.
Glad to see this hit 10K. I love this project, and not just because of my last name... IMO this has a great shot of getting through the review.
IMO, no issues from the license (Disney has LEGO sets out), and It could be the biggest (just slightly). Piece-wise, it looks about 550 or so pieces (a little more than the Ecto-1), so $50-60, and a possible winner.
Lego and Wall-E, like Minecraft, a match made in heaven!
Say, who's seen the working microscope project? That one blew my mind! It seems perfect for Lego Ideas, something a bit left-field, but likely to be popular with all kids of that moving-on-from-Lego but getting-in-to-tech age, and certainly with any AFOLs who use on day to day!
That. Is. Awesome. I see no problems with this being made into a set, and the movie is fantastic, and this model would be a Day 1 buy!
On a side note, I may be registering somebody else to the site tomorrow...
Nice! Unfortunately I didn't notice this project and vote. I would be glad to see more Wall-E and other Disney robots become buildable sets.
Awww I hope this one gets approved. It looks great and accurate without having a ridiculous amount of pieces. Would likely be more expensive than other projects, but nothing too crazy. I really don't get the point of people submitting these awesomely huge builds that have absolutely zero chance of getting approved due to their size. I feel like they're just using Ideas to get attention, which is kinda lame IMO, as that's not what it should be for.
I was a day-one supporter, and it feels like it's been a decade. So glad it finally made it. Fingers crossed for the review!
It's a great recreation, and it'd be nice to own an Angus MacLane model. (Especially for those of us who never had a shot at his SDCC exclusive Cubedude set from a few years ago.)
I'd be curious to know if LEGO keeps the design as-is, or maybe shrinks it down to also include an EVE despite her not being in the project. Seems weird to produce Wall-E without EVE...he'll be lonely!
The only downside of this excellent set being selected is that it would bump another cool project--most likely the Lightsaber project, as the UCC AT-AT, Wayne Manor and X-Men Mansion are probably too large for release despite their awesomeness. This is the only Ideas review period where I wished I could own every qualifer.
Good project :)
When does this reporting period end?
It's made the press:
