First images of Beauty and the Beast Castle!

Posted by ,

LEGO.com has published a few early images of 43263 Beauty and the Beast Castle!

This addition to the series of large-scale Disney Castle sets follows the format of 43222 Disney Castle, featuring a detailed interior and several characters from Beauty and the Beast, including LeFou and Maurice for the first time.

The structure measures 53cm in height and more information will doubtless be available soon. For now, you can find more images below...

By in United Kingdom,

The Beast looks a bit off, but I'm happy to see a follow-up to 43242.
Sadly the building techniques are only mildly interesting.

I want it now!! This is one of my favourite Disney movies, but i do wish they would mix minidoll and minifigures. Also would prefer tan gargoyles not brick built whatever those things are!

By in Belgium,

I’m so happy with this, also it will be a bit more affordable than the other disney castles! Can’t wait to get it

By in United Kingdom,

Leaked price is crazy, Beast minifig is a bit weird, but damn… I love it.

By in France,

A complete built cell would have been a plus to recreate more of the movie, there was some space on the bottow left corner ! But a nice looking set nonetheless

By in Australia,

I’ve got a soft spot for this film, and the set looks pretty neat. Hopefully not too expensive.

By in United Kingdom,

Looks good, and always better when the Disney Princesses are minifigures and NOT minidolls.

Minifigures: Instant buy.
Minidolls: Instant avoid.

By in Finland,

I have some problems with this (Cogsworth and the Featherduster are in a bigger size than Lumiere, Chip and Mrs. Potts - they could've sized up at least Lumiere a bit; LeFou's hair is too slick and I think it should be dark brown; it's a shame the ballroom is so small; and that there's no non-ballroom versions of the titular characters), but this is a set I've wanted for so long, love the movie, need this.

By in United Kingdom,

I'm not sure about this, the open back again is annoying, the colours seem a bit odd and clash, the minifigures somewhat bulky. I feel like you need more than one just give it more space to work with.

With 71040 , you were given a lot of space for the ballroom, this one is just shoved to one side, for such an important scene, it seems a waste not to make more of it. There are a lot of things which seems like an afterthought or suddenly remembered and bricks added to make room for. The wardrobe is in the wrong place, the library looks boring, which is wrong when Belle loves books.

It feels like a set that's been budgeted from the start and the design was not allowed to go over it. It's a shame, because it's expensive, but I feel like if it was more costly, the set could have looked much better.

By in Denmark,

Contrary to a lot of AFOLs it seems, I wish they would have chosen minidolls - I’m with the girls on this one - that’s just not how people look! And only Belle and Beast has a minidoll so far, so I can’t even change the figures when I build it :-( (this is close to an instant buy for me!)

By in Australia,

Now that’s how Friends sets should be! Minifigures! The tan brick built animal bits look a bit naff though.

By in Australia,

"Beauty and the Beast" is my absolute favourite Disney movie. This is going to be so expensive, but damn it, I want it so bad.

Minifigure Belle and the Beast? I am here for it.

I do hope all windows are printed, it would be a nightmare if they are all stickers.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

No idea LEGO was working on this! I like it, although I already have a Disney castle and don't have space for another. ;)

The only thing that's weird is the Beast, he looks too small compared to Belle, the minifigure should be much higher!

By in Norway,

This is like to bring minifigures to a Friends-like set! Love it.
I see more and more influence of the Friends theme (colours, tecniques, etc.) into City and other themes, which is very welcome. But I struggle with minidolls. On the one hand, they bring more girls into Lego, but on the other hand they contribute to a gender divide. My daugher actually prefers the versatility of minifigures (e.g. sitting position) and she doesn't really get the design of minidolls (i.e. gets a bit irritated when hairs fall off or by the lack of antistuds on legs).

LOL same here! They look like big, shaggy dogs at the entrance.

Hey, maybe they're a clue that the next big Disney set is based off the 1959 film THE SHAGGY DOG, and that from now on all the AFOL Disney sets are going to be based on their weird live-action films like THE CAT FROM OUTER SPACE and THE COMPUTER WORE TENNIS SHOES! /jk

Set looks very good though it seems a bit colorful, IMO. My strongest memories of the castle are from the beginning scary bits where it's still in shambles, though, so maybe it's just my memory clouding things.

Where is the which? that seems like a missed opportunity.

Meh the rumored €280 for 2,900 pieces is way too expensive. How greedy is The Mouse?

By in United States,

Cue Wardrobe and Sultan (footstool) as brick-built RMoD in 10, 9, 8 (years)...

I've never seen so many brick-built characters in a single set. Not just the obvious Lumiere, Cogsworth, Duster, Mrs. Potts, and Chip, but also Wardrobe, Sultan, Chef Bouche (who might be built into the wall, I can't see). Maybe even count the champagne bottles, plates (stack of 3), and forks (they are dancing on the chandelier if you look closely) that sing and dance during "Be Our Guest." Can you find others?

Beast is just at an awkward in-between size where he's larger than a normal human, though not quite large enough for a bigfig. An oversized head and tail insert for just a little extra height is a pretty good approximation.

Maurice looks like Albert Einstein, so if you accept that they are both geniuses, that can make sense.

@Fiercepeanut, I would have looked for the "witch" (technically referred to as an enchantress) on one of the window stickers, but it doesn't seem that she's on the one they chose.

It seems it's based on the castle in Disneyland Tokyo rather than the huge castle from the film.

Anyway, I'll definitely be getting this. I've stupidly committed to getting all Disney sets with minifigs, and who can resist "crazy old Maurice, eh"?

Gravatar
By in United States,

It was never going to please everyone, but I think the set is pretty impressive--and feels worth its hefty price tag!

My only (minor) complaint is that Belle in her blue dress was not included. But that's an extremely minor complaint for a very well-done set. I particularly like all of the references in the dining room to the "Be Our Guest" scene (including the grey stuff!). I won't be purchasing it, as it is far out of my price range, but bravo, LEGO!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really like this! It seems I'm not alone in wishing that Belle would have come in her blue and white dress as well. Other than that, not too many complaints here! Definitely one of my favorite Disney films, and I'm glad it's getting this type of recognition!

Ah, Belle, surprisingly the only Disney Princess with brown hair (unless one of the others bleaches or dyes).

Since they’re all located at peaks and pinnacles, technically they would be “grotesques”. Gargoyles have drain spouts incorporated into them. Anyways, I’m guessing the reason was an attempt to match the specific designs from the film, since I can identify three different designs. The two above the door and the two on the front turrets all look like some sort of bird. The one on the, uh…ballcloset(?) might be an animal with a long tail. No idea what the one above that is supposed to be.

You’re right. They absolutely should be charging the standard ten cents per piece. Quick, TLG, raise that price a ten-spot before you formally announce it!

When the previous castles were $400 and $350, yes, that's a damn sight more affordable

Cheapest disney castle is 30695 Cinderella's Mini Garden Castle (actually found it in a shop, not just a GWP)

It took me a moment to realize what the toilet plunger was meant to be.

Gravatar
By in United States,

For everyone who’s complaining that it’s minifigs instead of minidolls, I’m going to point out two things. First, if, as @vizzitor suggests, this is the third of the theme park castles to be turned into a large model, it makes sense that they’d stay consistent by sticking to minifigs over minidolls. But even if that’s not the case, look at that last image, with all the characters lined up. Minidolls can’t hold the lantern, can’t wear the tail, and can’t wear the quiver.

And if that’s not enough to convince you, they already did a minidoll of Beast, and he looked exactly like this guy:

How so? If you are referring to the enchantress who cursed the castle, she's only seen in a stained-glass window. I can see how that detail not being reflected is a misstep here, but she's hardly a major presence. She'd never have been a minifigure if that was what you meant instead.

Hey, they've already done a That Darn Cat! set: 21349
