The remote control looks kind of neat. Don't ask why.

I’m sure it’s all for aerodynamics but it does look very flat, can’t help but feel somethings been dropped on it

I wonder what the largest single Lego component is (not counting baseplates)? This surely has to be a contender!"

It's rare to see a set I've never seen before, but I don't remember seeing this in any LEGO Magezines at all.

By in Netherlands,

I recall that this one was from a pair. The other one had two car body options that each slotted over the specialized RC chassis. This one just has one chassis and I don't recall seeing it being an option to swap the bodies over from the other set. Still, it was neat that there was a cheaper option, as the other one of course basically was two cars sans RC chassis parts.

I got this for my 13th that year. It was honestly quicker than I anticipated at first, and I liked the steering layout for the remote. The base being essentially fully covered with studs gave it decent customization potential.

The dump truck bed from 7344 might be a serious contender, element 52045, 32 x 16 x 10 2/3 studs as its dimensions.
If you want to include _everything_, it's most likely one of the ship hulls from the 90's to early-mid 2000's. Or 53532, the stadium base from 3569

well, for one thing: The Power Functions used in the set was replaced by Powered up in 2018, and that itself appears to be on the way out. So they'd need a whole new control system - probably using cell phones + and app, as LEGO doesn't appear to do actual control devices anymore. (see Technic's Control+ and the trains that aren't part of CITY, for two examples.)

It’s cataloged as Gear, but it has a compatible attachment with 16x32 baseplates.

That's the sad part. I own this set and after 16 years it's still functional. With Powered Up you need to make sure you keep and old phone/tablet (with old app) so when they go out of date and are no longer supported the set will still be functional.

I have the mindstorms EV3 set, and I have had to program it with the Nintendo game boy-looking display instead of an actual program. Needless to say, I haven't touched it in years
