Quick look: 10349 Happy Plants

Posted by ,

Unlike other botanical sets, the focus of 10349 Happy Plants is as much the containers as the plants in them.

The anthropomorphised pots in this affordable addition to the popular theme have limbs, smiley faces, and greenery for hair, and look very cute.

Summary

10349 Happy Plants, 217 pieces.
£17.99 / $22.99 / €19.99 | 8.3p / 10.6c / 9.2c per piece.

A cute and quirky addition to the botanical collection

The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.

The pastel-coloured pots are bright and cheerful. The light yellow one is six studs wide and standing, while the royal light blue one is eight wide and sitting. Their faces are printed, and their 'macaroni' arms can be swivelled, to enable a degree of posing.

The insides are clad in brown pieces, representing soil, of course. The plants are not attached, they simply slot in to the 2x2 hole.

That's partly because they have roots dangling from the bottom, a first for a botanical plant.

The plant on the left is a Pilea, known colloquially as a Chinese money plant or friendship flower. The dark green one the right is said to be a Dracaena, or dragon tree, probably a Dracaena fragrans. It's a fine-looking specimen and makes wonderful spiky hair for the pot.

The plants can be placed in either pot and I think a lot of fun could be had making other compatible species to put in them.

Overall it's a whimsical and delightful little set that won't break the bank. The flowers do indeed look happy, especially when their pots are holding hands...

It'll be available at LEGO.com from 1st June.

Update: I forgot to take a photo of the alternate build: sad, unwatered plants...

This hits the right balance for the nature of Lego as a toy and a display without being over involved.

Whimsy.

That's what this is.

I like it, and the price is great.

By in United Kingdom,

I am 100% getting this. It's so cute and I'm happy they're bringing Botanicals properly to the kids' market. I hope it sells well so we get more sets like this!

A fine-looking specimen with wonderful spiky hair. Who could that be?

@Huw should that be 'put in' rather than 'pit in' under the picture of the plants on their own?

By in Netherlands,

I feel happy!

Not the biggest fan of botanicals, generally love the NPU but the overall build process feels more annoying than fun. But a small set like this? Sure, I can get into that. And considering the price it's typically one of those sets to buy on a whim when you can't find anything else.

By in United Kingdom,

Yes. More like this please

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I must admit, I really like these mossy little BMOs and I'm presently surprised by the price. If I see them in a deal all the better

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Finally a botanical set I can get behind. Love it.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I already pre-ordered them. Couldn't resist the cuteness. ;-)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wasn't sure about these when they were first revealed, but they've started to grow on me. Pun intended.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

These were a must buy as soon as I saw them, We have lots of Botanicals and some fluffy toy pots with faces and leaves so its perfect, more alt faces and pastels please to mix and match further. Please tell me you can join hands with a normal technic pin....... they look to be slightly too far apart......

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Don't worry be happy...

Gravatar

They must be distant descendants of a Skywalker because of the missing hands.. :D

The greater price would be the European one. However, I suppose that involves a sad, bitter discussion :( that's the opposite of your nice comment. :)

You must be tiny! I can't even fit behind 10289 ;P

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

My partner will insist on me getting this for her and I will end up building it - win win...

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Finally a botanical set for me! There have been other low pricerange sets from the theme, but those usually net you a repetitive build of 3-4 stalks with fiddly flower detailing. And there's no pot. This looks more balanced and just more fun in general. I build lego for the fun of it, not for faithfully recreating stuff.

By in Ukraine,

Getting serious Adventure Time vibes from this. Cuuute!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@huw please can you turn the yellow smile tile upside down, to be sad, and make the leaves droop and look like its not been cared for. Just curious, please :) Thank you

One of them is on the left I think :)

The eyes are part of the same print, so that wouldn't work. Unless you want the face to look really wonky lol

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wonder if you could adapt some plants from 10329 to fit in these

I'm glad someone is reading this stuff :-)

By in United Kingdom,

By far the weakest Botanicals set to date. Looks like Lego trying to get in on the Jellycat trend.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've always thought these were cute when announced, but never considered purchasing them, until now.

I found myself humming the closing tune from Adventure Time as I read the quick review!
"Come along with me....."

Gravatar
By in Canada,

These are great. They will be sitting on the desks of a thousand AFOLs at work all over the world.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Easy pass. I love botanicals, but not these.

The mouth from 40767 is on a separate piece, though. I was so tempted to turn it upside-down when building that...

@gylman said:"These are great. They will be sitting on the desks of a thousand AFOLs at work all over the world. "

"A thousand?" I think that's a very low estimate.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

These are really cute. I wouldn’t call them a must-have, but definitely an it-would-be-very-nice.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I want to see them with the face tiles upside down - grumpy plant pots

Gravatar
By in Poland,

I really hope they will continue this at same pricepoint

Gravatar
By in United States,

The roots are a nice touch.

I gotta say, I quite like these!

:)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm embarrassed to admit it....but I think I must have these.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’d consider buying these and filling with soil and actual (small) plants!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Not something that appeals to me, but I am happy for those who are looking forward to getting this set. Enjoy!

Gravatar
By in Venezuela,

Simply LOVE IT

As if display Lego doesn't need enough cleaning just from letting it collect dust.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

This is a wonderful twist to the botanicals line, love the concept, definitely getting this one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Absolutely adorable!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Thinking these could be good creatures for a castle or space layout.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Agriculture Time
Come on, and grab your friends,
Time to plant some ferns and other things...no? :D

Although not fully 'my thing', I do appreciate the creativity, and even 'cartooniness' of the builds, so well done.:)

Gravatar

I love this set

It's cute and will make a fun little display

Yes, me as well. This is a much better Lego set than 21308 was, though!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This set is going to sell exceptionally well.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

That last picture... So funny...

Gravatar
By in Germany,

If i see the price i think this set is not as cute anymore. A little over 200pieces with no specialised parts is almost like a 10€ creator 3 in 1 set.. The magical unicorn for example has 145 parts and cost only 10€. You can get it on discount as low as 5.99€.. As affordable as these happy plants are, they are quite expensive in regards of size or ppp ratio.

If i compare this to a 10€ city set the happy plants dont look that happy either as the 10€ city sets often include 2 minifigures and other printed or special minifigure parts which we all know are more expensive then regular parts. These happy plants just have this smiley prints, that it. Not to mention a 20€ city or creator 3 in 1 set in comparison..

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

Lego continues to have pretty bad colour consistency. Look at those yellow pieces....

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

We'll go to very distant plants.

Gravatar

I am from Gran Canaria (Canary Islands), and that cannot be a dragon tree (dracaena). It doesn't look like one at all!

@Huw, do you remember if the review copy had paper or plastic bags?

Just got the set, and considering most recent sets finally seemed to have at least some paper bags, I'm kinda surprised this one is all plastic again. Feels like one step forward, two steps back....

Plastic. A lot of June releases I've opened have for some reason.

Thanks. It really makes me curious about the logistics behind this all, you'd think at some point all factories (at least those in this part of the world) must have made the switch...
