Mixels Series 3: Glorp Corp

Posted by ,

The third series of the ever-popular Mixels series is available from today and as such, we will be bringing you reviews of all three tribes over the next few days. They are still priced at £2.99 or $4.99, which I think is a good price.

The first of these tribes is the Glorp Corp, a group of swamp based creatures who each appear to secrete significant amounts of goo, which certainly gives them an unusual appearance.

41518 Glomp

The first of the three Glorp Corp members is Glomp, the leader of the tribe and a keen inventor. Glomp is rather tall for a Mixel, a similar height to Seismo from the Cragsters in series one. There are eight ball joint components included, a 2x2 round tile with eye printing and a useful selection of green and lime green slopes which are rather nice.

Mixels Series 3 - Glorp Corp

Glomp has an impressive range of articulation, although the inclusion of moving fingers is particularly unusual. Despite the height of the character, he nevertheless seems suitably bulky and is unlikely to topple over as his feet are rather large. The trans-neon green 1x1 round plates on his fingers look suitably sticky, and a pair of Ninjago snake weapons are used to great effect, representing some gooey drool. This is only the fourth set this piece has appeared in, and only the second in this colour (the other being 9557 Lizaru).

41519 Glurt

Glurt is the only quadruped among the members of the Glorp Corp. Not only does he resemble a dog, but he apparently acts like one too, eating up after the rest of the tribe and acting excitably at all times. He has the least articulation of the three, with movement only in his tail and jaw. His feet can also be moved, although the are simply connected using a stud on each, so there is no actual joint.

Mixels Series 3 - Glorp Corp

Like Glomp, Glurt uses some trans-neon green snake pieces to represent drool, and his colour scheme is predominantly green, with a smattering of black and dark bluish grey also included.

A Nixel is included with this Mixel, and this is one of the same variety as in the previous two series, which is a bit of a shame.

41520 Torts

The last of the swamp-dwelling Glorp Corp is Torts, and he is apparently the gooiest of the three! This is perhaps not surprising when one looks at Torts as the eye is immediately drawn to his sticky hands, which are formed brilliantly using starfish. His arms can be moved at the shoulder and his legs at the hips, so although the articulation is fairly standard, the use of ball joints on his legs yields a great range of movement.

Mixels Series 3 - Glorp Corp

His head is probably my favourite element of this character though as he has a lime green nose (or perhaps a beak), three teeth in his mouth and a slobbery jaw. I am not sure whether this is supposed to be a beard or simply some more goo, but either way, it is unique to him and it looks great.

Mixels Series 3 - Glorp Corp

Overall

The Glorp Corp is probably my second favourite of these three new tribes, and it is Torts who stands out for me as he seems to have the greatest character, which is the most important thing in a Mixel as far as I am concerned.

Mixels Series 3 - Glorp Corp

The lime green and green colours look great together and I like the idea of a slimy tribe who live in the swamp. The colour choice may also appeal to those looking for some useful pieces as there is plenty of green for your money if that is what you are looking for. Although a new Nixel would have been great, and Glurt in particular could use a little more articulation, I am still quite pleased with this tribe as a whole.

Reviews of the Spikels and Wiztastics will be coming over the next few days, so stay tuned...

Thoughts:

Glurt looks like a slimy Jawg. I have most of his parts already, and would have the rest if I bought Glomp. The snake pieces as slime is a brilliant usage of parts, and I'm happy to see another set with the green baby bows. I have four from a Batman set, and I could certainly use some more of them! Torts kind of freaks me out, though, and his arms are far longer than they looked in the pictures. A pass. Can't wait for the Spikels review!

By in Canada,

got these guys and the wiztastics from my lego store the other day. I enjoy the glorp corp but can't get enough of the great purple in the wiz tribe!

By in United States,

Wouldn't this be pronounced Glorp Core? It's almost like they're trying to encourage mispronounciation :P

By in United Kingdom,

^ I was wondering if I was the only one to think that. I almost mentioned it in the review but thought it might be a little too picky!

By in United States,

Maybe the pronounciation is supposed to be "glore core" instead of "glorp corp"?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

^^It could be supposed to be "Corp" as in short for "Corporation", in which case it wouldn't have a silent letter, but that'd just be silly. =P

Anyway, good review!

By in United Kingdom,

@Aanchir: I've thought for a long time, since the tribe names were released that the Glorp Corp was short for Glorp Corporation...

By in United Kingdom,

Can the competition this time be that you have to combine two different coloured Mixels?

By in United States,

^ We'll have more information about the competition very soon after these reviews are finished.

By in United States,

Corps (referring to a government division) is pronounced "core". Corp is phonetic (Think LexCorp or Oscorp from Marvel and DC).
