Prince of Persia was such good theme.

Pretty good price per piece ratio back in the day, and looks like it would be worth the time and money, looks fun. If nothing else, a decent parts pack, too.

We got a couple weird but great themes tied into movies that didn't take off aroubd then. Lone Ranger gave us some great sets too.

For one thing, it was one of only two sets to have the camel, and the only one to have it in Tan/Brick Yellow. The other set was 7571, which had it in Dark Tan/Sand Yellow.

They achieved an amazing, beautiful palace with under 1k bricks.

And now One Piece is yet another great-designed licensed theme that came out of left field.

PRINCE OF PERSIA sets are so fantastic. Nobody may have cared about the movie, but at least it gave us these.

By in United States,

I have to echo the positive comments about this theme. I got them mostly as parts packs, but the builds themselves were very fun and if I’d had kids old enough at the time would’ve gladly let them play with them. But alas, the oldest was still a baby at the time.

I forgot this was a thing. I have the ostrich race set from this theme, and i have enjoyed both the ostriches and the official shirtless LEGO torso.

I recently picked up several more Union soldiers with the intention of eventually making a full cannon crew.

@TheOtherMike:
Heh. We just had a 3-day show that ended Saturday, and one member had some stuff he was trying to sell. Another member was going through it and found a single tan camel, and was interested in buying it until they looked up the going price.

@WokePope:
Hey, PoP was the sixth film to land the title of highest grossing film adapted from a video game. It beat the first Tomb Raider movie! I mean, sure, it got stomped by Shrek 4 and Sex and the City 2 when it opened, and it's got a 5.1/10 approval rating with critics, and it was only really compared favorably against other video game films, but audiences gave it a B score, and it managed to peak at No2 at the box office. Oh, yeah, and there was also that whole "whitewashing" controversy...

Yeah. The Lone Ranger sets were absolutely incredible, I've got one at the moment and I want all the others too, but I haven't gotten around to getting them yet.

But One Piece is actually a massive success unlike The Lone Ranger and Prince of Persia.

Feel like if you were bracing for a siege someone should identified the security hazard that is having wooden steps going right up one of your walls

Trick stairs. Start climbing them, and they’ll yank them out from under you, causing you to fall a few feet and maybe sprain your ankle, or bruise your coccyx. At the very least, you’ll be embarrassed in front of your fellow attackers, and be mildly distracted during the fighting.

Those are traps.

Great kinda' forgotten theme.
I have and love 7572 Quest Against Time. Closest set to an Indiana Jones Grail Temple with traps. I'm using this kit and a knock off set to create a Grail Temple set.
All the Prince of Persia sets are good to great and at the very least, nice parts packs.

By in United States,

Not great movie, FANTASTIC Lego!

I picked this set up for I think under original retail price a few years ago, it’s an incredible build and a fun playset.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Not a fan of licensed themes, but I'd love a theme with similar aesthetics. Maybe a Persian subtheme of Castle or something like that.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

god, i remember building this in the children's hospital back when i was a kid. i guess i must've been 12 or 13... i wasn't even into the movie, i knew nothing about it and i've still never seen it, but my parents got me this to help distract me from everything. it really helped, even if building it on a hospital table was a bit tricky lol. i almost want to rebuild it just as a reminder of that memory. i still always see the 1x4 nougat SNOT bricks and think of this set

I even looked at this set yesterday because Dustmark Keep reminded me of it.

Never saw the Prince Of Persia movies, I've only played the OG videogame, but always ended up being impaled by spikes coming up from the floor. That's my lasting association with this franchise.

I think there's supposed to be some visual indicator that marks where the floor and ceiling traps are located. Either that or you're just supposed to proceed at a measured pace that allows them to trigger before you actually pass through them.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wish every set from the theme was still selling for retail value like Quest Against Time is. As it stands, I’m not paying more than retail price for a glup shiddo set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Glad this is getting such positive remarks, my dark ages ended in 2010 and the Prince of Persia sets were a part of that. This set in particular was a real standout.

And these gave us the Dagger of Time piece, which was reused in the Hobbit sets, where (as I've said before) it made great Elvish steel.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

A beauty. The white of the palace contrasts well with the earthy tones of the city wall. The traps here are mostly grounded except for the appearing stairway. But that ties it more to the general feel of the games more than anything, especially all the SNOT bricks that allow your Dastan to parcour it.

Overall a great set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

If you had told me 15 years ago that some of the Prince of Persia parts (Dastan's hair, Persian half arch, dome parts, etc.) would still be around in 2025, I wouldn't have believed you.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have this set. For some reason this was the only set of the wave I got, and I hadn’t even seen the movie

To be fair, a dome is a fairly basic shape that it is useful to have parts for.

And the hair is generic enough that it works for a lot of characters and figures

By in United Kingdom,

One of the coolest things about this theme was that it gave some fantastic new animal moulds that Lego had never produced before - the camel here, and the ostriches in 7570. In fact, since they'd gone to the lengths of making them, it's downright baffling to me in hindsight that neither of those moulds ever appeared again outside of this theme, despite surely not being IP-locked since they're based on real-world animals. Would have been a great excuse for Lego to have made a zoo set for the City theme or something, that could have featured both of those and perhaps some of whatever other animal moulds existed at the time (e.g. monkeys and crocodiles from Pirates, polar bears from Arctic, even elephants from Orient Expedition...?).

I didn't pay a lot of attention to these at the time, both because my dark age was very much imminent in 2010 and because at that point I also tended to mostly ignore anything that was based on an IP I wasn't familiar with (despite that getting a set from an IP I knew little about was how I'd kicked off my interest in Star Wars a decade before...!); if I hadn't been so determined on that count I feel like I might have at least got the ostrich set to sample the theme and get a couple of cool new animals at the same time. Because like others have said these sets look generally fantastic, even if the movie itself has been forgotten to time.

Thanks for the heads up on that. We picked up a camel at a local show a couple months ago. Had never seen one before, so was excited to find one... we had absolutely NO idea what they went for and clearly neither did the vendor, since it we paid $3 for it. My daughter loves having it as part of her LEGO zoo, so I was just thrilled to add something unique for her.

The Dagger of Time is also one of the rare blades weapons that fits nicely in the X-shaped back-sheaths.

@ThatBionicleGuy:
While it’s not universal, some zoos, like the Detroit Zoo, are trying to rehome their elephants to wildlife preserves where they can live out their remaining days in larger herds. They really don’t do well in singles or pairs, which is usually all a zoo can afford to handle.

@chief7575:
Pretty cool. I only grabbed the ostriches when the sets were in production, so I could use them with the Penguin on club layouts, but even if you factor in all the other parts I’ve been able to use from that set, I still paid more per ostrich than you did for that camel.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I bought three of the smaller PoP-sets solely for the parts back then. Loved the ostrichs, the camel and the nicely printed horse. Never used the camel for anything, but you never know...

The PoP sets came out right after I ended my dark ages, and I bought multiples of almost everything except 7572, including two of this. The line is outstanding and really holds up! It's such a fun theme.

I’ve never played it at all, but one of the guys in my dorm had it installed, and if we were hanging out in that room when someone was playing it, they’d frequently have an audience (keeping in mind that an open door in my social group meant an open invite to hang out).

This is a great set, and such a great range of themes. I love that it is a fully enclosed 'castle' set that still has great access for play and it looks great on display.

I echo the others here in thinking that it's an excellent set in an excellent wave. I also didn't think the movie was so bad, but then again I also liked the speed racer movie (yet wasn't a fan of the show. Although I have some of those sets also, they are also not my favorites and not as good as these PoP sets).
I love games but didn't play PoP as I wasn't much into side scrollers.
@purpledave @theotherMike I had no idea the dagger fits into the x-shaped back sheaths!! I'll have to try that out. I really loved the introduction of those sheaths, probably more so than the other Ninjago ones or even the great camels or ostriches. Luckily, they were pretty decent sales of the pop sets, so I was able to get one of each and a few doubles.
Dave, sorry for not responding to your message some days ago. I got extremely sick and lost my sense of smell. I'm mostly over it now. I did get an email from Noah about the lug group, but I'm not sure if I have the time to do, what, three shows per year?

@BlackFalconBirdman:
Current requirements are either two shows/one meeting, or three shows, per year, I believe. We do some one-day shows that only last a few hours, and you can get credit for participating in a show if you help with setup or teardown. Either of those options would only involve one day of participation, but would also make it difficult to display anything at those shows. We're doing a bunch of displays this summer, so you could always stop by if you've got some spare time. Madison Heights wanted "presence" at an event this Saturday, but we don't really do public appearances that don't involve displaying stuff, so it's not looking like that's going to happen. However, the last weekend in June, we've got a 3-day outdoor show in Trenton (first time, but probably no admission). The second weekend in July, we're doing Plymouth Art-in-the-Park (public, free, but free parking is _crazy_ if you don't get there first thing in the morning). The third weekend in July, I'm committed to doing the 3-day NMRA event at Suburban Collection, and Noah will probably be doing an outdoor festival in Farmington. The fourth weekend in July we start a week-long show at Monroe County Fair (paid admission is required). The third weekend in August, we're doing the Milford Memories festival (also first time, but should be free). And Labor Day weekend, we're going to be at the Michigan State Fair (paid admission is again required). NMRA, Monroe, and State Fair are all bad times to just swing by on a whim (unless you happen to already be at one of them), but Trenton, Plymouth, Farmington, and Milford would just require finding the time...and a parking space.

And if you got sick and lost your sense of smell, you probably got Covid. I lost most of my sense of taste the week of Thanksgiving 2020 (but still somehow tested negative twice).

ok, great. I should be here for the Trenton Summer Festival. I will see you there (Maybe Saturday morning).

Yes, I probably got COVID but there's no point in testing anymore, I think. The tests have a short shelf life and there are no restrictions with COVID now (self quarantine just to keep others safe). I had probably twice before but not this bad.
Taste but not smell is strange. Too bad it was during Thanksgiving! probably the worst time for that...
