Listen to the LEGO 10358 Transformers: Soundwave sound brick
Posted by CapnRex101,
The modern LEGO sound brick was introduced last year, initially appearing in 76429 Talking Sorting Hat and featuring 31 unique sounds.
Appropriately, a new one has been created for 10358 Transformers: Soundwave! Ahead of our review this weekend, we have recorded its sound effects and phrases in a short video, so you can listen to them below...
The set was provided for review by LEGO.
Our full review is available here.

That's....a lot of different sounds! A lot more than I expected.
It sounds so tinny I find it very hard to even make out what it's supposed to say.
Thanks for posting this; the LEGO website doesn’t do it justice. They recorded all the classic voice lines and sounds a Transformers fan could want (even the scene transition sting from the 1984 cartoon) and didn’t use any of them in the marketing!

So, points for authenticity then.
How can there be sound if the tape isn't running? It's fake!

It’s all part of the disguise.
This set was visually appealing but now I’m seeing that it’s also more than meets the eye.
OH MY GOD!

I see what you did there :-)
I'm really excited for this set. A sound clip or two would've been cool, but this is a ton. And who doesn't love Soundwave's voice? He probably wouldn't be as beloved if he sounded different.
Having said that, my only regret is that there's no Rumble/Frenzy.

I was going to say, this is a feature, not a bug.
That's cool! Take my sub.
And now you're only 99,997 subs away from 100,000 YouTube subscribers. Go for the gold Brickset! :)
The marketing is working on me. I balked at the price point, told myself I don't own any others in this line, Soundwave isn't one of my favorite Transformers... and yet I might blow a pile of Insiders Points to get this instead of literally any other item in the Lego catalog.
Perfect! It will be hard for me to pass up on this one!

I mean hey, cutting them entirely is a great way to avoid the color debate
I see the top image. He has knees!
Wow that’s awesome! Dang he sounds perfect! If you weren’t sold on the rest, how can you resist Soundwave’s crazy robot voice?
Oh man, the scene transition musical cue, that brings it all back to me! Also, FIRRIB.
I guess we are ready for Lego Daft Punk
I love the new sound bricks! Multiple randomized sounds in one larger brick is awesome. Happy to see one here and hope we get an updated light brick in the near future. I'd love one with a white or blue light, or bricks that have switches to stay activated. Those would've really plussed the Batman Shadowbox and Balrog Book Nook sets.

You might be low on energon.
Oooh i especially did not go the Transformers route with Lego. I did like Optimus, but i could resist buying him. Same as Bumble Bee. But how can anybody resist soundwave with a soundblock like this? Man, it is so good!
I should probably start saving now for the eventual LEGO Devastator.
Honestly, the sound quality isn't bad on the brick - or, rather, the vocoder filter placed over the source Frank Welker audio is suited to the small speaker, while the music clips feature more noticeable frequency and sample rate compromises. I was concerned hearing the unintelligible clip in the lifestyle video (with unfitting modern "epic trailer music") but this video shows that the lines are fairly clear, at least, if you're used to G1 Soundwave's voice.
"Operation: Construction." I love it.

"Soundwave superior. Constructicons inferior."

I've only seen the movie, but did welker ever say "Operation:Construction" in the show? If not, then either they spliced that together, or it's someone else.

Sounds like a Yoo-problem.
Is the shoulder cannon assembled correctly? The red part should be rotated 90 degrees to show red through the holes like in promotional images which is accurate to the character. Do the instructions show it constructed like this?

You are correct. I assumed they were all oriented the same way when building, but they are indeed shown with different orientations in the instruction manual.
I am not going to redo the review photos to rectify that because doing so would take quite a while, but I can say that it does look better with the red piece showing through.

It definitely would be capable of devastating at least one thing… our wallets! But yeah, if they could do one vehicle per set we could collect them over time like the old days… and spread the overall cost out!
The voice clips from the LEGO video sound too clean to be rips from the original cartoon (and some of the lines are clearly not from it regardless) which makes me wonder, did they actually get Frank Welker in to record? Because that would be really neat. If it's not him, it's a VERY impressive soundalike.
More than meets the ear.
Can't wait for this one! Seems like Megatron should come next, but as G1 is a handgun, I wonder what they would? Or maybe they will move for Galvatron? Usually Megatron is a vehicle of war and it's tricky because I imagine they want the more popular nostalgic versions.
decepticons are awesome

Dinomech would work... any other options megatron

What, there’s a debate about which colors Renzle and Frumby are?

Yes, people argue over which ones bled and which one's rue.

You fine gentlemen can leave that discussion to die in the tfwiki, where it belongs.
So how MANY sounds are in this NEW brick?
They should have sneaked in one of the Harry Potter quotes....just once every 1000 button presses or so.....

I think there are 26, but 76429 Talking Sorting Hat also had a hidden phrase that only comes up very occasionally, so it is possible there is something similar with Soundwave.

Now I wish I had recorded the video using the Talking Hat sound brick and presented it as though there was nothing unusual about it. We all love that iconic Soundwave line: "better be...Gryffindor!"
It seems Transformers LEGO sets (Icons, Brickheadz) are very high quality. If this continues like this what a THEME we have...

Or use the one from 10334, just so Soundwave can bust out an instrumental version of "Everything is Awesome."

I'm not sure offhand, but the Decepticons did build a lot of things in the cartoon and Soundwave was basically omnipresent for the first two seasons and still around in the third.
That said, Welker's still around and doing stuff, so even if it's a newly recorded line it could still be him.

Freezon is red, Rubble is blue.
(And both of their wiki pages actually make FIRRIB jokes, to my amusement.)
