Random minifig of the day: lor111

Posted by ,

Today's random minifigure is lor111 Bain Son of Bard - Vest, a The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings figure that came in one set, LOTRDVDBD3 The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies with 2 Minifigures (Blu-ray + DVD), released during 2015.

Our members collectively own a total of 897 of them. If you'd like to buy one you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $14.60.

By in United States,

I liked that they had Bain in the Hobbit movies (he’s only a background name in Tolkien’s lore). Giving Bard children in the films helped to flesh him out as a character more than the book did.

Bain! Father of Brand, father of Bard!

Such a nice torso print! I wonder why Lego stopped doing minifigures in things like DVDs. Or just like other things. Books for example. I know they still do it, but not much anymore.

Exclusives probably slowed down because nobody wants to miss out just because they didn’t buy something random.

The Hobbit trilogy was actually amazing.

I think the Bard in question rolled a nat 20 to seduce the witch"

I thought bards were supposed to seduce dragons, not witches. (Wouldn't *that* have been an interesting ending to The Hobbit.)

No, no, this is from the scene where he was trying to climb his way out of the...nope, wait, I've got the wrong guy...er, girl, too.

By in Canada,

Tough fig to get- at least in Canada. I remember when I was trying to collect them all way back when- this one along with Blu-ray Bilbo were hard to come by. Fortunately was able to get both via eBay before their price took off in subsequent years.

I thought this Bain was associated with an exclusive dvd set out of France? Maybe I’m mistaken there.

I always found it a little strange how this Bain isn’t worth anywhere near as much as blue coat Bilbo, who was also a blu ray exclusive, although I understand that Bilbo is a much more popular character

One of only 2 middle earth figures I do not yet own, the other being 5002130

Now with real arrow supporting action!

It is a great torso for historical and fantasy/adventurer figures. And was cheap in the past too. Looking back at past Bricklink orders, I got 10 in 2020 for 64p each and 8 in 2018 for just 48p each. Those were the days.

That's the only one I'm missing. Completionism leads directly to insanity and bankruptcy. ;)

I think I saw all of these movies, but I only remember this character from his other minifigure. I think I put his head on an extra Harry Potter uniform to make a Ron.

Okay, I'm not getting the reference.

By in United Kingdom,

I actually know who this is now!

For context I only watched the Hobbit movies for the first time earlier this year; so before then I'd seen this minifigure's picture a lot with no context (beside the single reference in the book) as to who he was.

What I wouldn't have known from the movies was that Bain was supposed to be a redhead as his minifigure is; maybe it's down to the lighting, but his hair onscreen didn't look like such a bright colour to me...?

I found it weird that they put that version of Bilbo in with the theatrical cut of the first film. It wouldn’t be until the Extended Edition released a full year later that we’d finally get to watch the scene where he wears that outfit! It’s when he goes to buy groceries, BTW. That’s it. Nothing else.

@TheOtherMike:
You quoted the film, so I’m assuming you watched The Dark Knight Rises, yes? Did you figure out the identity of the kid who escaped the pit?

Yeah, but I only watched it once, so I'd forgotten that until you reminded me of it. And besides, just because someone quotes a film doesn't mean that they've seen it. I can quote a whole bunch of works that I've never seen, read, or played.

Whoops, I think I meant this Bilbo is the one that came with a DVD one year before we got to watch the scene it was based on.
