Vintage set of the week: Fork lift
Posted by Huwbot,
This week's vintage set is 450 Fork lift, released during 1973. It's one of 28 LEGOLAND sets produced that year. It contains 46 pieces.
It's owned by 320 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Cute. There's something about those small Lego builds.
Fork Lifts and Hauls!
One of my first sets! I probably got this in 1974, maybe early 1975.

My father had bought a few sets in early and mid-70s when I was a toddler. These included this fork lift part, the armless minifigs, and the family members w big heads and flexible arms.
Lovely Legoland set. Got the European version (652-2) from the previous year.
I don't think I've ever seen a forklift pulling a trailer before. Part of the issue is likely that most forklifts (at least most that are designed for use indoors) have skid steering, meaning that they steer with the rear wheels instead of the front ones. I don't think you'd ever be able to back that rig up, and even driving forward would be fairly traumatic for whatever load you're pulling.
Wait... This was done like a year ago... I remember cause I realized I owned this set.

Easy explanation: Last year's was the EU version 652. It was common for 3 digit sets to have a EU and NA version with different numbers (might be caused by Samsonite or simply the lack of fast communication back then).
Really like that tiny old fork-lift piece. Also surprising it was used until 1998.
I'd like to see a Legoland set revival for nostalgia products.
I see the 'lift'...but fail to see the 'fork'...so, as someone else pointed out, it's 'Spatula Lift'...and probably sold be these guys:):

(Billboard stayed up years after the movie wrapped:)...also, for what it's worth; I always like the part in question, despite its limitations:))
Slightly ironic that the chosen image conceals the actual forks, arguably the most recognisable part of a fork life and 50% of the name
It's so huge it barely fits the picture!
tsk, modern sets and their custom mould pieces with very few alternative uses
It's cool. Quite a cute litte thing too

2004.
I have no real desire to get the set as a whole, but I want one or two of that "Legoland" printed brick.

I recently picked up the twenty-fifth anniversary edition of that movie. I really need to get around to watching it, as I've never seen it before.
I didn't own this specific set but I did have that forklift piece when I was a kid. I seem to recall that it was great fun using it as a launcher for small bricks because of the spring mechanism.

Ah, knew I would be missing something here... The Legends line always catches me off-guard.
The fork assembly in yellow and black makes for a nice addition to any Blacktron base.

Huh. I read this before I saw who posted it, and was mildly shocked to see that it *wasn't* an @ElephantKnight post.
Looks like 353 in the background. A nice little vintage Legoland set, and the OG color scheme looks really nice here, too.

Me too! Was given it as a young child around the same time. Box is long gone, but I still have the set and instruction manual. Serious nostalgia vibes with this one.
