Not the first Lego petrol tanker train carriage, and it wasn't the last. It wasn't a bad effort, but I appreciate that the designs got a little more nuanced, in the future.

If you don’t buy it MISB they’re not that bad. And if tou look locally instead of Bricklink - I managed to find it locally last year for only €10

At least, with just a few changes to the construction the STAMPs in this set can be replaced by printed parts for almost the same effect: 2x brick 1x6 with Shell print and 2x brick 1x2 with the logo print. Which begs the question, why wasn't this done in the first place?

This was one I wanted when I was little, and actually got as far as going to the shop with my parents -- but what I actually came back with was 7818. The Shell tanker I eventually ended up with was 7813, which was RSOTD a couple of years ago.

I've done an Octan build of this one, too; it's quite straightforward to swap out the yellow parts for green and slap on some replica stickers.

The vintage set came with a white printed "Shell" brick, whereas a sticker seems a step backwards. The lower side ladders should really be black, and the magnets are too easy to remove. Although the black tubes look great, a fireman's hose-pipe and reel like with the tanker road trucks would be more playable as in 7813.

The introduction of a lot of curved parts (as seen in 10016, for instance) definitely helped.

For a second I thought it was Saturday and it was a vintage set. But that was last weekend.

It's not much less blocky than 136, the current VSotW (which will be replaced in less than a day) but the key distinction is, of course, the minifigure.

I remember back in that time, the Shell petrol staions here in Belgium sold every lego set that used the shell licence. You could collect points as well and get them for free.

Meh. I was already building by the time you were born, but in the past five years I’ve passed for ages 25, 28, and 35.
