Review: 75437 Cobb Vanth's Speeder
Posted by CapnRex101,Cobb Vanth is a fascinating character, originally featured in Aftermath, a novel launched shortly before The Force Awakens in 2015. The marshal has since returned in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett and he will soon be available as a minifigure too!
75437 Cobb Vanth's Speeder includes a new version of Cad Bane too, based on his design in The Book of Boba Fett. These two minifigures look excellent, both with printed arms, but the speeder's size is questionable, especially because it seems to have inflated the price.
Summary
75437 Cobb Vanth's Speeder, 207 pieces.

- Detailed speeder
- New blue milk carton
- Speeder is oversized
- Too expensive

Minifigures
Cobb Vanth acquires Boba Fett's armour from Jawa traders, between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Mandalorian. The marshal is therefore dressed in extremely battered armour, covered with intricate metallic silver scratches. I was worried that the helmet in particular would be re-used from Boba Fett figures, which already feature some damage, but thankfully not.
The new rangefinder element looks great, while the dark red fabric on the torso matches Cobb Vanth's attire onscreen, continuing on the arms. Dark orange would potentially be closer to the shirt's actual colour, but I suspect that would seem too bright. The legs are perfect though, with accurate holster straps and only one knee plate, as in the television series.
Vanth's willingness to remove his helmet becomes a point of contention with Din Djarin, so I am pleased a suitable hair element is included, with the expected double-sided head. A smile and a serious expression work for the character and the printed arms are excellent too. In addition, the revolver is a clever choice to represent Cobb Vanth's blaster pistol, which resembles firearms of the Old West, appropriately.
Mandalorian armour is equipped with other weapons too, printed on the arms. These designs share similarities with previous Boba Fett minifigures, naturally, but with a lot more damage to correspond with the helmet and chest armour.
Following his introduction in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Cad Bane has become very popular and finally made the jump to live action in The Book of Boba Fett. The minifigure recreates his appearance there, sporting a leather trench coat with his famed hat. This hat piece was initially produced for Bane's minifigure in 75323 The Justifier, though it suits this version of the bounty hunter as well.
The pearl silver breathing tubes also return from The Justifier and look perfect, while the details on the torso and legs are superb as well. These include a row of silver-tipped cartridges on Cad Bane's belt and two red lights on his chest, which continue to blink even after his apparent death in The Book of Boba Fett.
Furthermore, the sand blue skin tone reflects Bane's live action appearance and the minifigure includes printed arms, which is a welcome change. The bright blue gauntlets and flamethrower hoses look excellent and the usual blaster pistols are a reasonable match for Cad Bane's LL-30 blasters, with their prominent scopes.
The Completed Model
Cobb Vanth's speeder made only a brief appearance in The Mandalorian season two and the design is highly unusual, with a seat attached on one side and an engine seemingly salvaged from Anakin Skywalker's podracer! The old podracer engine is certainly recognisable and I like the speeder's vibrant colour scheme.
Speeder bikes are often oversized in relation to minifigures, which enables the designer to add more detail. This model is indeed very detailed, but I am not convinced it needed to be quite so large. It looks seriously out of proportion with Din Djarin's speeder in 75299 Trouble on Tatooine, so the smaller 75436 The Mandalorian & Grogu's Speeder Bike will surely look ridiculous.
I assume the scale was determined by the 2x8 flap elements used for the air scoops, which is understandable, as these parts were designed for 7131 Anakin's Podracer in 1999. The round intake in the centre is accurate and the red panels attached to either side are correctly situated, but the concentration of studs is strange when other panels are smooth.
The mechanical texture behind these panels looks excellent though, using an ice skate and a flintlock pistol for detail. Moreover, the light bluish grey tub piece is great for the conical shape near the back of the engine, though I expect this part was another factor in making the speeder so big.
However, the designer has put its size to good use, making space for a storage compartment inside. There is barely enough space for the helmet and the compartment also houses a brick-built meiloorun and a bantha milk carton. Though it resembles the 1x1 brick available in 30625 Luke Skywalker with Blue Milk, this printed carton is actually a new design.
The saddle is very bulky, which matches the size of the engine, but still looks awkward to me. However, I like the texture on the side and the long handlebars correspond with the onscreen vehicle. You can change their position, although a minifigure cannot actually grip them.
In fact, Cobb Vanth is dwarfed by the seat. Saddles on speeder bikes are often tricky because minifigures obviously cannot move their legs out to the sides, but this design seems especially awkward. Also, the marshal stores his helmet on a rack behind the seat in The Mandalorian, so it is a shame you cannot do the same on the LEGO model.
Overall
I find 75437 Cobb Vanth's Speeder frustrating. The price of £24.99, $34.99 or €29.99 is clearly too expensive and I can easily imagine a cheaper version of the speeder, which would be both smaller and more accurate. On the other hand, these minifigures are outstanding and about as detailed as LEGO figures can be!
Of course, Cobb Vanth is no longer wearing Boba Fett's armour at the time he encounters Cad Bane. However, the marshal is probably a more interesting minifigure with the armour and I am hopeful we will see another version of the character soon, especially now that we have his head and hair. Personally, I would buy this set purely for its superb minifigures, but it would require a discount first.

Great torso
Buy at 30 or more
Another $15 set that is somehow is being sold for twice the price.
Figs are fantastic, though
I'd like to get just the minifigures on Bricklink, but I'm afraid the minifigures will go for the price of the set itself.
Thank you Capn for mentioning the fact that Cobb Vanth DID NOT HAVE ARMOR when he dueled Cad Bane because for some reason no one else is mentioning this. I understand that it would be more desirable to have a Cobb Vanth minifigure with the armor but it is still strange that they included Cad Bane in this set.
Closest we’ll ever get to Marshal Raylan Givens as a minifig, I imagine.
Honestly, at this point I just assume that in Lego Star Wars most speeders come supersized. More relaxing.

Around 2013-2016 this was put to an extreme, with speeders (but also motor cycles in other themes) ridiculously oversized.
With the introduction of new elements, they trimmed it down a bit, but it still isn't fully gone. Hope this doesn't set a trend of reviving this style. Never been a fan of that.
Also I much preferred the Clone Wars hat for Cad Bane over that generic Indiana Jones/City one.
Such a great set. The build and the figures are amazing.
I've never seen such an overpriced set as this one though. It's insane. It's like they were originally selling this and 75436 together but separated them at the last minute and kept the original price tag.
I’ll buy it just for Rylan Givens in space armor.
Cad Bane was outclassed and outgunned.
Raylan got the shaft in that episode.
I see a reasonable John Hurt-face, to create a War Doctor with. I also see a pretty decent Starcraft Vulture.
I don't see thirty Eurodollars worth of value, though.
Me: "Hey, it's a live action Cad Bane!"
Me, later: "...and he's dead."
@CapnRex101 could you please weigh the sets you review? Just the plastic parts without box, manual and stickers. Thanks!
While those figures are very nice and desirable, I refuse to give TLG the satisfaction of buying something so clearly overpriced. I might kick myself later for missing out on these, but I don't want them to think that this is an appropriate price.
I've been intending to buy 75323, so if I get this set as well I'll put the new Cad Bane with it. I'll still have a surplus of Banes though, as I also have the one from 8098.
From the preview images I'd have thought Cobb's skintone was a shade or two darker than it is.
Whoever has Reviewed this isn't wrong about the speeder Being Oversized but it doesn't bother me because I want the Minifigs more and I'll tweak the speeder myself
But I'll get my first Cad Babe and Cobb Vanth figs and I like the New Range finder Mould too..
Everything in this set should signify a day 1 purchase, and it’s really sad that it doesn’t. I have wanted a Cobb Vanth from the second he appeared in Canon, though I’m still not completely sold on the head print. I have wanted a Cad Bane for a decade since he appeared in The Clone Wars, and it’s great to see an awesome version of him in a cheap set like this. Thirdly, I’ve wanted a printed Blue Milk carton every second since I missed getting one in my Star Wars the Skywalker Saga preorder.
All of those things should add up to a day 1 purchase, and maybe it still will, but the price is pretty inexcusable. $30? The fact that it has flawless figures would have made me think price was good enough. But $35 alongside a set that should be with it for that price? Sadly no. I will be getting this set at some point, but I will need at least a little bit of a sale.
When are they going to design an element to allow a minifig to sit on a speeder type vehicle in a straddled position, similar to how they sit on a motorcycle frame? https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=65521

They're going to invent that thirteen years ago.
Wait, what?
I'd probably end up paying $15 each for the parted out minifigures, so I might as well just buy the set.

That gets you to a standing position, which is not what I mean. I'm suggesting a compact element that positions the feet forward of the hips. Yes, you could use things like hinge bricks but it ends up being too bulky IMO.
$45 in Canada. Some of these sets are getting to the point where even a 50% discount won't be enough. I see a $20 set here, though I'd stretch to $25. At $45 it goes on the wishlist and I'll hope for a big discount when it inevitability sells poorly because it's too expensive.
Cobb Vanth, Vanth Refrigeration.

That's a 10-gallon hat on a 20-gallon head.

I wonder if he and Cad Bane dug coal together?
I'm not the only Legends fan who wants to use Cobb to set up a Boba Fett/Jodo Kast showdown, right?

That's the sexy gender-bent version. This is Cad Bane.
In that fourth picture, Cobb Vanth looks like a rogue George Lucas to me.
Now THIS is PODRACING!
Maybe it's just me, I don't know what that speeder is supposed to look like, but it looks like an overpriced hot mess. The figs are good though
I always look t a set by the mini figures averaging $5 ea. Is the speeder a $25 set? I don't think so.

They sell collector minifigs with dual molded arms and legs, good prints and accessories, single packed and shipped for 3,99 EUR. This is the absolute maximum price.
Town figures go for 1 EUR, these here have at least prints on arms and front legs, but not dual molded and no print on the legs' sides. So, 2,50 EUR figures - max.

This set would have been an instant classic if they had put the Mando speeder in this set as a pair, and that would have justified the $30 price point

There's a nice side-by-side picture/still from an episode here: https://www.starwars.com/news/mando-download-chapter-9-the-marshal
It seems that the two bikes aren't that much different in length, ignoring the air scoops on Cobb Vanth's speeder. Going by the referenced still, I'd say the speeder from 75436 has the best proportions in relation to a minifig, and this speeder is 2 to 3 times too large.
On the other hand, I doubt this would be an interesting set if the speeder was built with the 'correct' proportions.
I'm not sure if I'll be getting this one, although the great minifigs make it tempting.
Star Wars fans are making great innovations every year in getting happily ripped off. "I'll happily buy a jumble of parts stuck to a podracer engine for the same price as the entire podracer so I can get these two minifigures from the Mandalorian"
