You can't spell Christmas without C and S.

By in United States,

Was this in The LEGO Movie (during Wyldstyle’s message)?

Such an icon.

Excellent timing! It's a little known fact that this facility helps track Santa's journey as he makes his deliveries!

I'm pretty sure it was the one shown, yes; I thought of that, too.

They also watched a lot of broadcast TV. Apparently.

By in Australia,

The Command Centre?

Where's Zordon and Alpha?

By in United States,

I got this set- actually, 493, the U.S. version- for Christmas 1979. I knew it was Lego by the rattle. I just couldn't wait, so I opened the wrapping just enough to see which set it was, then retaped it. Then I was nervous that I would be caught somehow. So that somewhat ruined the excitement of getting it. I never peeked again. Didn't stop me from trying to guess, though!

Speaking of which, does anyone have recommendations for favourite Santa Tracker website (mostly for giggles)? I found three so far: Google, NORAD, and FlightRadar24.

Oh Huwbot!! Why must you tug at my heartstrings at this time of year?

Maybe, just maybe, this is under the tree for me tomorrow.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Never had it, but always admired it; just a grade below G.E. 1.0, which I also never had...had two of the Space Transport though (both received at Christmas too)...could even put it together without blueprints after awhile.:)

Merry Christmas!

So many incredible CS-y parts in this set, and such a classic to get stickered torsos. I still will always love the old TV antennas. Just great. Lovely set. But uh… @Huwbot? You sure about that? I’d be quite lucky to find one for $148.60 used ;)

By in Turkey,

I would love to have it today. Not in the box though, used. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to open and play with it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Despite the positive reception, at time of this comment there's still a higher amount of comments than likes.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

I really like the clear back seats. I wonder if there was a Uranus joke hidden in that piece choice.

Gravatar
By in Greece,

Got it as Christmas present back then (1980), played endlessly with it; my very first 'building' set. Kids have it now...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This was my white whale as a child along with 924 . 920 was my first space set as a child. Now I'm am lucky to have pretty much every one. Was such a thrill when I got this one as an adult, the years just fell away!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nice to see them dressed in appropriately Christmassy red and white!

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Got LEGO as a gift yesterday. Got this legend from Huwbot today. Must be Xmas!

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Was wondering which SNOT solution they used for the upper row of computer screens, until I checked the instructions... I didn't know they also printed these screens on inverted slopes.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Space base. Space Base! SPACE BASE!!!!

Happy Christmas everyone!

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I potentially have this in a bulk lot, have found the printed 1x6x5 brick there, plus bunch of blue and trans yellow parts. Should finally get to sort it out one of these days…

I still remember the time three presents rattled, and I thought they were all Lego. Turned out, one was a model kit and one was a puzzle. (If you can't tell, I've always liked putting things together.)

Not anymore.

I assume you meant 920-2? Weird that we have that, but not 920-1.

By in Belgium,

Merry Christmas, Hubot! I got this set for Christmas 45 years ago and still treasure it. I remember putting the paper torso stickers on the minifigs, amazingly, they’re still there today. Real quality stuff. The antennas and the big dish were epic. So glad I had this set!

There’s no L in Christmas. That’s why it’s sometimes called Noël (no L) :~P
Have a cool Yule, everyone!

This price was the lowest price internationally on Bricklink (including incomplete sets). The current lowest price on Bricklink of a used set in the US is $260 for 493-1 (the US version) or $280 for 926-1 (the European version).

Same here.
I bought the entire 1979 wave of CS sets on ebay over the years, because the only one I got as a kid was 886.
Luckily I sought these sets in the early days of ebay, when near mint examples (mostly without box though) were still available relatively cheap.
This one though was much harder to come by, and was the last of the '79 sets I managed to obtain.

On the 1st day of christmas, my true love gave to me:
A station in a space sea

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wanted this when I was younger. I never saw it in the stores. I did have one friend that had it which was my only awareness of it. Finally picked up a copy a few years ago. Hooray.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Merry Christmas Huwbot (and Huw).

By in United States,

Huwbot knows what we love!

What a great set. I never had this. My first base was the Beta-1 Command Base. But I always wondered what those other bases would look like next to mine.

True, but the point was that, as with all (almost) RMotD’s and RSotD’s, the price @Huwbot lists is for new ones, thusly indicating the error.

Save the best for Christmas? I’m happy for this 1,422 Space cowboys who own this. It’s simple but it’s amazing.

What's even more weird is they printed left and right versions of at least one computer screen on inverted slopes.

By in Netherlands,

Always nice to see the classics come back every once in a while. Now I hope for one of the ones with white as a major color again, such as the 6929 Starfleet Voyager. That one's awesome :)

By in Ireland,

Was super lucky to pick up this set a couple of years ago from an owner who’d had it since 1979. It was a present while he was in hospital getting his tonsils out as a child. He built it once and decided Lego wasn’t for him so it’s in lovely condition. With stickered torso prints and the leftover sticker sheets still in the box!! Couldn’t believe my luck. Has pride of place in my CS collection.

That one's also not white, it's gray.

It's as much white as grey. Well, mine is so sun-damaged it's more ivory, almost Brick Yellow.

Ooh, can't make spaceships out of ivory. Poaching is illegal!
