That Paradisa torso lived on quite a bit beyond the theme’s lifespan, guess there must have been a stock of them to use up.

I gotta say, other than the fact he's green up top, this guy does not look very much like a palm tree.

And that's at least the fourth time this theory has been posted here in the past month. They didn't have a huge variety of standard torsos back then, so you frequently had your choice between plain unprinted and goofy prints. While they would have maintained a stock of spare parts at that time, they wouldn't have overproduced enough to justify working it into a set just to use them up. However, the printing pads existed, so sticking with the available designs did reduce costs in that regard.

I know Lego decommissions and destroys a mold after it's gone five years without use, does anyone know how long they keep printing pads around? Or does wear and tear on the actual pad mean that it has to be replaced more frequently than a mold would?

No idea. For all the attention molds get, I haven’t heard one peep about how printing pads are handled.

The paradisa torso and head (which is also the old smiley style) with a green bill hat and short legs does not compute for me. It's such an interesting clash of early 90s, mid 90s and early 2000s I had no idea was even possible. Mind you, short legs came out in 2002 so this was right at the intersection point of these parts. It helps that I had no idea this set existed.

This unique combination of parts does read very much like a "fig made out of leftover parts" that could have populated the background of my MOCs in 2002-2006ish. I didn't have this specific Paridisa torso, though--and I don't think I had black short legs till somewhat later.
