Interesting, the trailer hinges, but so does the middle of the truck, so I guess it can make super tight corners, but not really. It's a weird design to not just have the one pivot point.

Going to this set's database page will show a real weakness in the way Brickset selects what shows up in the "News" tab. It selects by arcticles that just have the set number, rather than by articles that link to the database page, so you'll get a whole lot of articles that just happen to have "335" in them. There are no less than fifty articles there, including two RSotD articles: https://brickset.com/article/45980/random-set-of-the-day-advent-calendar and https://brickset.com/article/119576/random-set-of-the-day-bonnie-bunny-s-new-house

Didn’t realize how long they’ve been doing these Lego semi trucks

By in United Kingdom,

An excellent large truck in 60s Lego. Have this plus 331-1 and 332-1, which all had the same doors and steering. Brilliant fun!

The truck itself doesn't articulate, it uses the steering system of the time: The front axle is a special 2x4 brick with no studs but a tube extending up from it. This passes through holes in the chassis plate (light grey) and the floor and roof of the cab, and is capped off with the 1x2 brick to give you hand-of-god steering on the roof.

We had _one_ example of that steering system in our collection when I was a kid. I grew to hate it because it was nearly impossible to locate all of the unique components required to actually use it correctly, so most frequently I encountered the “axle” brick while grabbing for what I thought was another standard black 2x4 brick.

I’ll never forget stumbling across this set in my grandparents’ house in St. Louis! It was in great condition with the box and instructions, and although the piece connecting the cabin and trailer was broken in two, I was able to order a replacement on BrickLink with no issue, despite the piece not being made for 50 years!

This is strange because the only reference to “335” in 3674 Bonnie Bunny's New House is the number of Brickset members who (currently) say they own that set.

How does a well designed vintage building set that was well priced and made for kids look like an awkwardly shaped expensive pair of rubberised shoes made for brand collectors to keep in a box?

This one the first in a long legacy that continues with 6692 , 1525 , 2148 , 3221 , 4000022 (good luck getting that one), and 60440 ."

Oddly, looking at your description of 4000022 LEGO Truck Show in your bricklist, it says only 80 were made, yet apparently 104 Brickset users own one! Fantastic set, though

That's my point. The article has "335" in it, so the algorithm that fills out the News tab assumes that the "335" means this set. You see a lot of sets with "What's hot this week" and "This week's top news" articles in their news tab that didn't actually mention the set in question for the reason I mentioned. https://brickset.com/article/110533/this-week-s-top-news-articles is in this set's tab, because one of the articles had 335 comments.

By in Netherlands,

A few weeks ago a new Lego shop opened in my town, and seems like they do have several sets with this steering system for a reasonable price. Maybe I should get myself one.....

Yesterday been for the first time, came out with 212-2, 6844, 40580 and 30682. But they had so much more cool stuff....

By in United Kingdom,

Didn’t have that truck - but just had a flashback about my love of chewing on the tyres used in this set as a kid! Man, they were chewy. Weird.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

According to the picture, it comes with pre-worn out tires!

By in Germany,

I had 333 as a kid. Fond memories!

By in Australia,

Cool truck!
Those rubber ties were terrible, and not built to last!
Every one of them I’ve ever seen looks like it was chewed repeatedly by rabid monkeys!!!

Some people clearly lie about their collections.

I suspect others simply don’t care and use “owned” as some kind of bookmark.

@envint251:
There's no way the production run was limited to 80. A review of the 2015 tour said there used to be three tours of 25, but that they'd increased the 2015 season to five tours of 35 (that's 175 total participants). For 2025, the total number of tours was up to ten. I don't see anything about the number of people on each tour, but the 2015 review said they were thinking they'd keep the number of people per session locked at 35, which means currently they'd be making 350 copies per season. 4000022 being from the 2016 season should have been no less than the 175 total from 2015, but probably not anywhere near as high as the 350 from last year.

Where things do get complicated is that each tour session gets a unique box that includes a photo of everyone on that specific tour, so 2015 would have had five unique versions of that year's set. If they really did limit the sessions to 35 going forward, numbering the 2016 set "of 80" makes absolutely no sense. @Huw, you've been on the tour before. Can you make any sense of the "No 24/80" mark on the corner of that box? The box for 4000046 is marked "No 6/50", but if that's the full total it would mean they reduced the tour size to five people per session. 4000020 is marked "No 49/80", but the review article confirms there would have been more than twice as many participants that season. There is mention of LEGOLAND Florida annual passholders getting copies of the 2015 LIT set for some reason, which is the first I've ever heard of any LIT set being available outside of the LIT program except for when the Ole Kirk House was given out as the Employee Gift one year.

I had quite a few of them in the 70s and they were fine into at least the mid 80s. So they lasted 15-20 years. I imagine that was considered long enough for the time. After 60 years they tend to be a bit hard but it is still possible to find usable ones even if they are a bit harder and more brittle than they once were.

The box says right on the front, No. __ / 80. That's where I got my info, so...?

By in United Kingdom,

I have some grey tyres that are still flexible and perfect, but some that are hard and cracked. I wonder if it depends on the factory where they were originally made (e.g. Lego or Samsonite) or just how well they've been kept for 60 years!
