Think the Sushi, Alchemist and Fortuna are all sold out? unless am wrong

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Definitely cannot order either in the UK

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I just cancelled a Fortuna in the UK so there's one up for grabs! Decided I couldn't justify the space.

By in United Kingdom,

Yeah looks like Sushi, Alchemist and Fortuna have sold out. Nothing gets added to your basket when you click the pre-order button

By in United Kingdom,

Does anyone know or know how to work out the numbers sold?
Over to you @Amok ;-)

Reporting for duty :)

An analysis of current sales (ongoing):

Amount Sold / Maximum Available / Set Name

40,461 / 42,000 / Alchemist’s Shop
37,607 / 40,000 / Sushi Restaurant
37,369 / 40,000 / Privateer Frigate Fortuna
16,137 / 30,000 / W.A.L.T.
14,020 / 30,000 / Antique Collection

TOTAL Units Sold = 145,594
TOTAL Revenue in USD = 33,887,534.06

P.S.: The "percentage sold" values in the source codes for the top 3 sets have been static for a couple of hours now, and people have been reporting that they are unable to add them to their shopping carts. There's probably a glitch of some sorts, maybe the total sales have reached 150,000 units and the website is not updating accordingly.

By in Netherlands,

I'm kinda surprised the two smaller sets are doing so poorly compared to the big ones. W.A.L.T. is actually the only one I got (my first BDP set!).

I do like the Sushi restaurant, but not enough to spend €280 on it.

Wow, that was quick :-)
Absolute star, thank you

I have spent over an hour waiting to get through to Lego this morning due to my BLDP Series 6 points not adding to my account, even after delivery. I get the impression Lego are inundated with issues at the moment.

FYI. To anyone receiving BLDP Series 6 orders, it may be worth checking that your points are added to your accounts.

I'd suggest giving them a call, but find a quieter time than I did. They threw a few extra points on by way of apology ;-)
Does seem like there is a wee glitch in the system :-(

I've just looked through my points and saw I have 2 "bricklink s5 2025 points correction" so looks like S5 didn't go to plan for them either

By in United Kingdom,

Just seen these comments on Reddit about insiders points:

"Still waiting on my points. Tried calling yesterday but gave up after waiting over an hour on hold.

Edit: I got through today, and they said it now takes 2 weeks from the shipping date to get your Insider points from BDP sets, as opposed to retail sets which usually take 2 days"

"If I recall correctly, last series they waited until they were done shipping for everyone and then went through and added all the points en masse."

14,057 / 30,000 / Antique Collection

I'll have to keep an eye on that. When you place the orders it still says that points will be added when shipped as usual, rather than later

Thanks for the heads-up. Mine didn't get recorded either.

The Series 5 was another complete fiasco as it involved double points. Eventually, they made it right. Yet, I cannot believe this is happening again!

Oh, wait... it's Lego IT. Of course, I can believe it's happening AGAIN.

Right there with you, this is my first foray into BDP and W.A.L.T looked a great, charming little set for a great price. Sad to see it only getting 50% of it's run. Hopefully it'll be a slow burn set

By in Switzerland,

I was actually seriously debating to get the Frigate, until my rational side kicked in. I don't need a LEGO frigate, and LEGO is releasing two massive sets in the coming months that I do need. Those who follow LEGO leaks probably know which licensed 6k+ pieces sets I mean.

By in United States,

lol, I emailed LEGO about my points last week!

Their pints history has historically been untrustworthy, especially for BDP. Also, I don’t see double points for my recent 2X purchase.

For Series 7, I decided I would wait until today to make a call. LEGO inundating me with large Series 6 boxes during Series 7 funding did not help their case. Based on the above, I may miss my first series.

That reminds me. I had to call LEGO for my BDP series 5 sets double points. I did not get them, but should have gotten them. The nice lady at the phone confirmed that, gave me the double points, and even gave me some extra points for the inconvenience. She said that their website screwed up (as usual) and they would fix this for everybody in the same boat. Not sure if they eventually did.

I had completely forgot about this. Looks like I missed a few since they are sold out. I did decide to grab the robot since it was cheap. It doesn't matter. They just stay in the box anyway so it's pointless.

"well just my 2 cents here, in case anyone from Lego actually reads this. I don't think the average joe knows anything about how much of each set has been sold but they do see an announced end time. In this regard then I think Lego is making a serious mistake closing any set sales before the countdown indicator is up. In the distant past they would give us a heat map (thermostat) reader on where each set was at in terms of being sold out. Again my focus is on the average joe. I think they just created resentment on a handful of folks who may have been waiting until the last few hours (because they thought they could). The idea that the average joe knows anything about a set hitting 40k or a total goal of 150k is absurd. This is esoteric knowledge. Focus on the experience of the average joe when thinking about how to improve customer service and experience for the bricklink designer program. I would consider this a FAIL big time for what I see as misleading information to the average consumer. And disclaimer, I got my orders in on day 1, I'm just thinking about the average joe. Newsflash, when you tell people they have until a certain time to do something they accept it as fact. Some might even suggest that it was misleading. We lost the visible thermostats in exchange for dynamic supply but that meant 3 sets went offline 4+ hours early while 2 sets are still available for pre-order (at least that is how it appears). This does suggest they are letting the 150k limit slip, then why on earth shut down 3 of the 5 sets? FAIL."

Yes I'd agree with that.

I don't disagree with the fact that the average Joe would be frustrated to think they could wait until the last few hours to place an order. I will say this is the first time since they did the dynamic inventory that this has happened. And it's because we have 3 extremely popular sets in a single round. That being said, the 150k limit comes from the manufacturing slot that BDP is given 6 months from now. So that is a pretty hard (ish) cap. Also, my one counter to your focus on the average Joe is this: BDP is not for the average Joe (neither is the Brickset comment section). I think in the grand scheme of LEGO as a whole, BDP is still very niche. I am always amazed to see those frustrated commentors who literally commenting minutes after a set is "sold out". The people who "just heard about this and now I can't get it." I can't help but think they are just trying to complain. You're saying you have a Bricklink account and every time a set sells out you just "happen" to miss out, and yet it's been talked about for months on end and been very clearly advertised when you can pre-order. Again, the updated solution is way better than Castle sets selling out in the first 4 hours like previous rounds. I get what you're saying, but I do think that the BDP team is really trying to listen to the fan community and do all they can to make these sets available for as long as possible in the pre-order window. If any of my rambling makes sense..

By in United States,

Kept debating about the Sushi Restaurant and Alchemist's Shop, but it appears the decision has been made for me. Oh well.

Not great optics for Lego though, because they don't show a limit on set orders anymore - which led to the three sets suddenly being listed as 'Sold Out' despite having over 3 hours left on the timer. If they still showed that status bar, or had some counter for total number of sets at the top of the page, it wouldn't look as bad, in my opinion.

I completely agree that they should just show a ticker at the top of the page that has actual numbers (not just a colored bar). And people can track the allocation. Or have a BDP staff member write into the comments: UPDATED unit reallocation, every time there's any update. Just some better moment-to-moment updates. Even an update this morning like "attention everyone, this serious has sold beyond our expectations and we are approaching the real scenario where these 3 sets could sell our prior to the pre-order period. If you were on the fence about placing an order, we strongly suggest you do it now and not wait." Just better messaging on the BDP part would go a long way. What do y'all think?

Yup, thats well said too and makes perfect sense. I imagine the grumbles are more from people (and I'd include myself in this) that were on the fence about buying and then had the decision taken away by the deadline arriving 6 hours earlier than expected. Having the tracker would at least give some indication of how long they would be available for.

I agree it's better than the mad dash for the castle sets that sell out after 3 hours. I had a week to buy and didn't take the chance so I can't have wanted it that much, so it must be fomo talking.

From what I've seen the BLDP sets don't increase too much on the aftermarket anyway so there is always that.

By in United States,

I appreciate what LEGO and Bricklink have done to try to mitigate BDP issues, as they arise.

Castle in the Forest oversold? Oversell the other sets to the same number.
Fear of scalping? Limit customers to 2 units.
10000 not enough? Bump it to 30000.
Specific sets selling out while others kakapoo themselves? Introduce dynamic fulfillment.

Removing the heat map, I guess, makes sense when the heat is mitigated by dynamic fulfillment. Yet, since they did this, we're all desperately begging @Amok to show us the hidden numbers. Hiding the heat map/numbers would eventually lead us to this moment where 3 sets sell out and none of us had the opportunity to make a last minute heat map decision. I won't lie, I've made these last minute heat map decisions more than once to date. I was simply struggling to make a Series 7 decision when all of the bills for Series 6 were coming due during Series 7 crowdsourcing.

Each of us can clearly say "we have plenty of LEGO already" so this shouldn't be a big deal. Additionally, with a fantastic Series 8 on the horizon, I'm already starting to scrutinize my "wants" on that one. But running out of 3/5 BDP sets hours before the deadline still feels frustrating, though not as frustrating as running out of GWP the first few hours of a several day offering.

@yellowcastle I agree with everything you said. Plus if you're "on the fence" about a set that's been promoted and announced (in it's nearly final form) for over a year, then if you aren't there day one (or two or three) pre-ordering it, then it's probably good that the decision was made for you. Obviously the sting of Series 6 orders being charged the same time frame as pre-orders for Series 7 occurred is a very really feeling.
I think this Series will be a rare occurrence. I could be wrong! But Series 6 was the lowest total unit sales and Series 7 is the first to hit/exceed the 150k.
I still think BDP shouldn't have the fans do the "data-mining" for us and provide real-time updates at the top of the pre-order page or something.

This is all especially poor given BLDP's admitted acknowledgment that 70% of sales occur on Day 1 and the rest on the Final Day.

They need to do something to let customers know that they're about to be disappointed, i.e., that sets are about to sell out.

BTW, my total time spent getting my BLDP 6 VIP points was just under 90 minutes. Lego CS needs to bring back the callbacks when they're this busy.

Received my order over the weekend, my reward points have not yet been added. My parcel was left on my doorstep in the pouring rain while I was out all day at the Bricktastic show in Manchester. I am not impressed Lego.

The sets were advertised to be available on pre-order for 7 days and 4 hrs. Three sets sold out after 7 days 1hr, so were unavailable for 2% of the time advertised, and people are blaming the website for not highlighting this to them, rather than blaming themselves for not ordering in the 98% of the time they had available? I think it's clear who's to blame in this scenario.

By in Netherlands,

Why are the sets even limited anyway? If more people want them, why not just sell more? I mean, they still have a couple of months....

Lament and Complaint are not necessarily the same thing. Was there enough time for everyone to order a set that wanted one? Probably not. Some folks might not have been able to make the math work on funding until today. Some, like me, may have been equivocating on what if anything to buy. Some may have been out of town until today. Let's not start shaming people who are simply expressing their lament. I don't see that anyone is blaming anything here.

Bricklink/LEGO offers tools to assist customers buy BDP sets. Bricklink/LEGO made changes to these tools with the last Series that impacted how/when we buy BDP sets, pivoting to variable caps, reducing the funding period to 1 week, hiding the heat map etc. Some of these changes are great. Some could maybe use a revisit.

For any that missed the window, there might still be a first come first serve opportunity to order excess stock later this year.

An analysis of current sales (ongoing):

Amount Sold / Maximum Available / Set Name

40,461 / 42,000 / Alchemist’s Shop
37,607 / 40,000 / Sushi Restaurant
37,369 / 40,000 / Privateer Frigate Fortuna

14,020 / 30,000 / Antique Collection

P.S.: The "percentage sold" values in the source codes for the top 3 sets have been static for a couple of hours now, and people have been reporting that they are unable to add them to their shopping carts. I got mine yesterday too, whilst at Bricktastic. Fortunately other family members were in.
Hope yours weren’t damaged.
Sounds like your delivery issue is more to do with DPD. I’ve had a few issues with them in recent months myself, just dumping and running. Absolute numb heads.
Anyway, I did call Lego to report on one occasion, making it clear my beef wasn’t with them. They were very apologetic as the damaged item was a GWP which was irreplaceable due to its limited nature.
The very nice lady threw a hefty chunk of points in my direction ;-)
Give em a call, be nice about it ;-)

I suppose one solution is to bring back the bar graphs with a disclaimer that the set totals are subject to change based on the overall total number of sales in the entire Series.

Then, they could compliment the individual set sales graph with another showing how close the entire Series is to selling out.

The graphs would help Lego to spur sales, reliably inform consumers, and entertain us Brickset community nuts.

By in Canada,

I was on the fence. Lego made the decision for me. For once, Lego decided I should not spend my money with them. My wallet is very happy with this decision. As for myself, It does not bother me too much - this would have been my first BDP set - hence the reason why I was on the fence. I'm more annoyed at the Gringotts Bank which was supposed to be retired in June this year and is not available anymore in North America and apparently won't be replenished. And yet, despite all this unfolding drama, I'll live through it ;-)

Bricklink/LEGO has updated the numbers on their source codes after the crowd funding ended. So, they haven't exceeded the 150,000 units limit after all.

My only issue with BDP is the lack of control over the delivery window. I am often on overseas work and have to stay away 30 days or more from home; if they ship on this time window, I'm never able to pick them up. It would be great if we could get a notification from Lego saying "your packages are ready, they will ship in 3 days unless you click on this button here and we can hold them for 3 weeks".

Yeah I've almost fallen foul of that one too. Would be good to have a bit more control over it

Thanks for your comments Mike, hope you had as much fun as I did at Bricktastic. I too have had problems with DPD in the past, it is not the first time they have done a dump and run. This time they told me they were coming on Monday, then they turn up on Sunday and leave nearly £500 worth of Bricklink Designer Programme of Lego on my doorstep in the rain and yes it is damaged, cardboard is not waterproof.
I know this is not Lego's fault and in the past when I have been nice and reported delivery problems they have given me points like you. However, it is up to Lego to put pressure on DPD to deliver parcels correctly, DPD do not care about me, but I bet they care about the massive delivery contract they have with Lego.
I have tried to phone Lego 6 times over past two days and spent about 3 hours just waiting for them to answer the phone. No joy yet.

Very true. It is not like these are sets where there is going to be a discount or some other promo worth waiting for. If someone wants one, they should buy one as soon as possible. They have had plenty of time before the sales even start to evaluate the purchase. If they want to wait until the final hours to decide if they want one, then they run the risk of missing out if pre-orders close due to production numbers being hit.

Those were production caps. They are are only going to produce what was ordered plus a few extra for “acts of God.” That being said, folks have a number of months to cancel so those canceled units plus any extras could come back for a brief overstock buy. Based on the popularity of three of these sets, I’d bet that the overstock event will go quickly and horribly. :o)

DPD delivers your parcel, not the LEGO City yellow truck.

Contact DPD if you’re unhappy about your deliveries. Or leave alternative delivery instructions. DPD will literally let you reschedule the day of delivery if you’re not likely to be home at the click of a button.

No wonder people have trouble contacting LEGO for real issues when they’re inundated with requests like this from people angling for freebies.

It's a good question and in an interview I saw of the director of BDP, Alex, he discussed why certain sets sell better than others. I think it comes down to theme/IP. Series 7 features three sets tied to historically popular LEGO themes (especially amongst nostalgic AFOLs). Pirates, Castle, Modular. If you look at Series 6, Outlaw Forest Den and the Art Factory are the only ones that check these boxes. He went on to say that if you're doing something truly unique or original (mushroom village for example), it's much harder to generate the highest number of sales.

Bricktastic was great, and so much bigger again this year.
I was going to say hello to @Huw but he was being totally Colin Robinson’d as I was passing. Thought about saving him but kept walking in the moment. I felt guilty thinking about it on the drive home. Sorry @Huw. But who’s to say I’m not a Colin Robinson too lol.
Sorry to hear that your delivery was affected. Not great at all.
You are absolutely right, it is a DPD issue, but they seem to be one of those companies that doesn’t like communicating, so its not so easy to take issue with them directly. I’m pretty sure they try and point you to Lego anyway. And I get the feeling their App just pings you to the useless driver who’s created the issue in the first place.
I’ve had deliveries come when I’m in, and they haven’t even knocked on the door. Just dumped and gone. I see them on a security camera and when I go out to ask why they haven’t knocked, they just drive off.
As @chrisaw stated this will be impacting on Lego customer service traffic and wait times, but it is probably the only way that Lego will know that the issue is there. DPD themselves have no customer service as far as I can see.
Atleast by contacting Lego you can get some sort of compensation or resolution. You wouldn’t get anything from DPD other than an increase in blood pressure

Very interesting. Clearly, we need to take this with a grain of salt since previous series didn't get the dynamic caps.

I'm so very surprised how well Series 7 did. Depending on final prices/builds, I honestly feel Series 8 could do even better. All 5 submissions are extremely intriguing.

Reporting for duty :)

An analysis of current sales (ongoing):

Amount Sold / Maximum Available / Set Name

40,461 / 42,000 / Alchemist’s Shop
37,607 / 40,000 / Sushi Restaurant
37,369 / 40,000 / Privateer Frigate Fortuna
16,137 / 30,000 / W.A.L.T.
14,020 / 30,000 / Antique Collection

TOTAL Units Sold = 145,594
TOTAL Revenue in USD = 33,887,534.06

P.S.: The "percentage sold" values in the source codes for the top 3 sets have been static for a couple of hours now, and people have been reporting that they are unable to add them to their shopping carts. There's probably a glitch of some sorts, maybe the total sales have reached 150,000 units and the website is not updating accordingly."

Received my order over the weekend, my reward points have not yet been added. My parcel was left on my doorstep in the pouring rain while I was out all day at the Bricktastic show in Manchester. I am not impressed Lego."

DPD delivers your parcel, not the LEGO City yellow truck.

Contact DPD if you’re unhappy about your deliveries. Or leave alternative delivery instructions. DPD will literally let you reschedule the day of delivery if you’re not likely to be home at the click of a button.

No wonder people have trouble contacting LEGO for real issues when they’re inundated with requests like this from people angling for freebies."

Thanks for your comments Chris, I think you may not have seen my reply to Mike above, can I suggest you read it, it may explain things a little more to you.

Not sure how this is in the UK since Brexit, but in the EU the company you're buying from is responsible for delivery to you. As the buyer you are not a customer of DPD, so complaining to them won't do a thing. They might say sorry (but more likely: Just ignore you), and next time do the exact same thing. And sure, they offer the option to change the delivery, that's convenient (I recently was in Japan when a set I ordered three months earlier was suddenly being delivered...). But for any problems, you have to contact the sender. If the package is gone or damaged, Lego must send you a new one. And if they get too many complaints with DPD, especially with costly consequences they have to fix, at some point they might switch to another company.
(Like switch to GLS....the horror, the horror....)

Series 8 can't do much better. BLDP has a hard cap of 150k sets. ;)

Let me rephrase. I think it could hit 150k faster and possibly more evenly spread. Depending on final price and design, that balloon looks like it will appease all different types of buyers.

Astonishing numbers. It is personal, of course, but I do not understand why series 7 is so much more popular than series 6. I do not get the appeal of four of these five sets. The frigate is good, though not fantastic. "

He went on to say that if you're doing something truly unique or original (mushroom village for example), it's much harder to generate the highest number of sales."

I figured as much, being a nostalgic AFOL focused on precisely these three themes (though castle only before dragons were introduced in 1993). ?? Again, this is of course all very personal.
I’d pick the Art Factory over the Sushi Restaurant any given day. And the Wolves’ Den over the Alchemist Shop. (I have them both.) And both weren’t sold out.
The Alchemist Shop suffers from two major issues, in my view:
1. It’s more fantasy focused, so not for me
2. Like the Medieval Blacksmith (which it resembles quite a bit on first glance), it is too large compared to just about any castle with a brick count below 20 000 or so.
That I don’t like this set, obviously doesn’t mean it’s bad. Just not for me.

I can see how the Sushi Restaurant may appeal to Modular-builders, but given that I already feel the Tudor Corner is a somewhat difficult fit with the other sets (I hold the unpopular opinion that this is not a great set style-wise, though I will buy it when I find it at a good discount, or cheaply pre-owned). So I cannot conceive of a way to successfully Modularise the Sushi Restaurant and fit it into my town.

!!! Disclaimer: The following is not intended to be serious, though it is true, so I will not enter any dietary discussions. Everyone is allowed to eat whatever they want, within legal constraints (some of which I might or might not agree with). !!!
Also, I don’t eat animals, nor do my Minifigs eat plastic ones. So a sushi place would be weird, as vegan sushi is mostly overpriced and uninspired rice-in-seaweed-with-cucumber-or-avocado. ??

Inarizushi can be vegan, yet cheap and amazing!
(but do ask, since often they do still use dashi made from bonito flakes)

Though that's about the only good vegan sushi I can think of....

If the set is damaged due to being left in the rain, then DPD will not replace it. Whereas LEGO will, and they are the company the buyer has a contract with. DPD notifications are all well and good, but I often find they only notify you on the same day as delivery and sometimes with less than an hour's notice. Complaining if something is damaged and asking for a return and replace is not angling for freebies.

That’s the sole BDP I regret not buying. I just forgot about it at the time and then it was too late. Bit sad to see how it didn’t get anywhere near its allocation either. Oh well.

I’m glad I did buy it, and it arrived early last week but I didn’t have time to build it yet. Also, I’m still figuring out whether to build it as it is, or go straight to modularising.

Ooo that’s a tough one! I like how the original build has space to store the extra art in the floor. Plus the rat home and the sewer.

If you make it a modular, would you try to raise the building to keep these elements?

I didn’t get the art factory. Outlaw Den and the apparently very unpopular Sequoias for me haha.
