Vintage set of the week: Small pre-school set

This week's vintage set is 11 Small pre-school set, released during 1973. It's one of 10 Minitalia sets produced that year. It contains 32 pieces.
It's owned by 25 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at Brick Owl, BrickLink or eBay.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought Minitalia bricks were the same size as (and fully compatible with) regular LEGO bricks, just using a different stud/antistud design?

That’s correct yeah, and I threw loads of them away thinking they were fake LEGO :/ As I recall, while fully compatible, they didn’t have the same level of clutch power as standard Lego. The colour matching was perfect, though!

Yes, they are. Different plastic, different studs and different undersides. But still compatible.
Unfortunately this one cannot be played with after school so it saw a short shelf life
That kid is now in his mid-50s and looking forward to retirement.

Somethings I didn't know, the back of the bricks have 'x' shaped rods.
Made of lower quality plastic so cheaper retail price than regular Lego.
Only for the Italian market (like OLO only for the Japanese market).
I'm sure the look of disappointment on that kid was a great selling point for the set.
He’s thinking “at least Mum didn’t get me one of those crap Smart Brick sets…”
