By in United States,

Well, I reckon I'll spend a little money next February.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Horse Knight faction seems appropriate for a jousting set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Aside from Space Cafe, kinda feels like more the same, probably won't pick any of these up. Forest Residence, Ride the Space Bus, and All-Terrain Hybrid Racer were my top picks (regarding the latter, it would be so nice to have a function-heavy technic set since the majority of official technic is just licensed cars...)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Definitely in for Kiosk and Space Cafe. Really thought the latter was going to get made the round before. I lament the lack of pirates as there were tons of great submissions. Not into the wester theme, but that is a nice looking set. The joust is nice, but wasn’t one of the ones I was hoping for. I do like how it includes the different factions without being a dedicated set - the tents are nice.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I cant believe Driftwood Keep hasn’t made it yet! Thats the one I really want! I guess the Space Cafe is kinda cool..

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’ve missed out on getting the fire brigade because I’m not just absolutely loaded…

But this might be a good alternative for my city AND it is on a baseplate…

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, that Space Cafe is gorgeous! I love that we're finally getting a Googie building in LEGO!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was sure Fort Huck was going to be the "big" set. Maybe next year. :(

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I do like that Space Cafe, and also the Kiosk. Do I like them enough to order them? Not quite sure yet.

Other ones seem fine as well, but just not interested.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Complete surprise, this selection. The joust looks good, I'll probably have to get the western station as I realised recently that I have all but one from bricklink in that theme and the one is surprisingly good value on ebay.

I like the fire station, but I'm not sure if it fits with my city and I have the modular. I might get the kiosk as that will probably be cheap, judging on size.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Interesting but once seeing the prices it will be skip I fear.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I enjoy the diversity of the builds. Amazing!

Gravatar
By in Spain,

I think that kiosk might be the first brick link designer program set I will buy! Hopefully affordable and looks great in any display

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They all look fine but I doubt I'll buy any of them.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

congrats to the 5 gifted finalists. I think this is the first time that a serie has not a 4000 pieces count on a model.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nice variety this round. It's going to be hard to choose which ones to buy.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Ugh, the joust and space cafe! So cool!!
Honestly, they're all great. My wallet weeps. :'(

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

sad the technic all terrain vehicle didnt make it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not a fan of any of these. My wallet is relieved

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm very surprised those are the five chosen from the 600 in the review period. As they are usually so expensively I suppose I should be relieved none of them really appeal.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

They may have chosen the Western set to compete with Lumibricks, we may never know.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love how LEGO won't give us a Western theme but they'll produce everything that llucky submits. :o) Seriously, though, I am going to end up with more train stations than remote stretches of track.

The firehouse is really well done and will be a tough pass. I like the newsstand but I struggle to see the 729 pieces and worry about what kind of price it will engender. I guess I had anticipated that the Space Cafe was for Space Folks, not simply a City type themed restaurant. It's just ok to me, much like the Joust.

What am I missing with all these set photos? Why does everything look off/wrong/fakeglossy?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Big fan of the Space Cafe, so colourful too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wish they'd just sell them as regular sets at stores with paper instructions.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Disappointed that Space Cafe's sign doesn't say "Ready to Lunch!" That aside, cool set, and one of only two (the other being the Kiosk) that would tempt me, although The Joust would be cool if I had the space.

@DevGuy said:

If the Western set wanted to compete, it would be more broadly available, I think. But then, I wouldn't even know Lumibricks existed if not for commenters here mentioning it, so who knows.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

The Space Café is going to be a big hit, I think — it's just so colourful and packed with details (e.g. that toilet disguised as an escape pod, now all I need is minifigs of Dark Helmet and the Bearded Lady to re-enact that scene from Spaceballs :)

As a Castle Mafia member, it pains me to say that the jousting set is my least favourite. Not bad, but somewhat bla. Theme-wise, the western station is not my cup of tea, though it does look to be quite a good build.

The other three are fantastic! Since I already own the Modular Fire Brigade, I'm unlikely to pick up the Firehouse. Unless I win the lottery, that is. I may also order the parts I need to build that fire engine.
Kiosk and Space Café are on the wish list for sure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm getting the train station and kiosk, two hours after the sale goes live.

I was thinking the same thing with that and the other 2 sets which seem to be inspired by Lumibricks sets - the drive thru and the news stand. Variety is good, but it is interesting that there are some definite signs of inspiration from those illuminated brick sets!

By in Canada,

I (so far) did not participate in the BDP (because of printed instructions). I almost did with the Minerva/Fortuna Frigate but missed it at the last minute - was on the fence, you know!

So far, this seems to be (IMO) the best selection and the more "Lego-ish" of the series - there are a lot of colours in there - even the most subdued models are quite colourful and this is something Lego tries to do as we can see on the revised Ideas sets.

If the designer can convince Lego to produce two new spaceman colours (magenta and lime would do well with the set) for the Space Cafe, that would be fantastic. I might get that Cafe - just have to make sure I don't stay on the fence for too long ;-)

All and all a very good selection - but then again I never bought any; so I don't feel any BDP fatigue.

I'm 99.99 (repeating) percent positive that BDP sets aren't allowed recolors.

Yup. Lack of paper instructions is the main reason I have only bought a few of these so far.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

That firehouse is a beauty.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I will get these.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Great choices, although there were a couple of models that I would have rather seen as finalists. Nevertheless, it's the first time since Series 5 where I'lll be definitely pre-ordering all five sets.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

My wallet's crying right now, knowing what has to happen

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Among the approximately 600 projects submitted, none were particularly fascinating, immediately catching the eye. However, BrickLink's "choices" are, to say the least, embarrassing. No purchase for me. A thoroughly disappointing tenth series.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Oof these all look so good and interesting (even though they follow the same themes yet again), I hope that kiosk is under 30 euros, probably not though...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Honestly may be the first time I get all of the brickli k designers. The only one I may not fit is the kiosk.

That is unfortunately true; or at least this is what I also read in the past. That said, the orange space torso and the orange helmet are not available anymore. The mini oxygen bottles in orange are still available. Lego will have to do another run anyway for those. Yet, I understand that if they begin allowing such a thing, people will start asking all sorts of bypasses which won't be feasible most of the time and will be an unnecessary hassle.

By in United States,

these all look good but not good enough to buy

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m always amazed at how much our LEGO tastes differ, sometimes slightly, sometimes greatly. It’s like that old Far Side strip at the DLDWW party. :o)

YELLOWCASTLE BDP SERIES REVIEW
(though we haven’t seen finalized sets yet for all Series; if not listed, I considered Meh)

1 - Great (Mountain Fortress, Train Shed), Good (General Store, Snack Shack)
2 - Great (Mushroom House, Brick Cross Train Station), Good (Ominous Isle)
3 - Great (Forest Stronghold), Good (Camping Adventure, Art of Chocolate)
4 - Great (Wild West Train), Good (Siege, Medieval Seaside Market)
5 - Great (Adventure in Transylvania, Thieves of Tortuga, Mushroom Village). Good (Antique Shop, Popcorn Wagon)
6 - Great (Art Factory, Gold Mine, Outlaw Den). Good (Off-road Adventure, Sequoia Trail)
7 - Great (Sushi Restaurant, Frigate Fortuna, Alchemist Shop), Good (Walt)
8 - Great (University of Science, Hot Air Balloon, Dustmark Keep), Good (Coconut Cape, Locomotive)
9 - Great (Wild West Blacksmiths, Fishing Village, Freight Depot), Good (Pumpkin Patch, Sleepy Dragon Inn)
10 - Great (Wild West Train Station, Firehouse), Good (Space Cafe, Kiosk)

Based on the above, it would appear that Series 5,6,8, and 9 have been my favorite BDP series to date though my favorite specific BDP sets have been from 1 and 2 so far. I’m just starting to build Series 6 sets and I got a whopping 4 of them, my biggest haul to date. That being said, I’m very excited for Series 8 and 9. The new floating caps should help us get whichever we want and hopefully keep aftermarket prices down. I was still in shock over my Series 6 bills all coming due at the same time that I skipped all of Series 7. I’ll have to revisit that Series in the aftermarket and/or during the now common LEGO Overstock Offering.

What strip would that be? Googling "DLDWW party" doesn't seem to return anything that looks like it might pertain to a Far Side strip.

By in United States,

These are all great models!

"The Joust" looks like a scene right out of "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" . . . and I'm here for it!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Space Cafe & Jousting Tourney are great!
Depending on how different they look after being “improved” by LEGO, and the final cost, I might pick up one or both.

The Lumibricks western train station is much better in my opinion, even if you take away the light features. That said, I don't think they see them as a competitor yet so not sure if that's indeed the case.

Where are these alt brands even sold? Only online?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that I've never seen Limibricks, Funwhole (who came up with that name, anyway? Sounds dirty) or Cobi sets in the wild, even in other toy stores. I mean, it's not like I was looking for other brands, but still...

I tend to see the Cobi sets in model shops, which typically here don’t stock Lego

Will be picking up the Space Cafe and the Joust. Wish the Driftwood Keep would have also been chosen.

They sell D2C via their own store, and on Amazon. It's pretty easy to buy, and you can see how better they got in just 2 years. Their designs are great, I highly recommend checking them out. Lego is still Lego, but this year I got much more of their excellent western theme sets. Not a fan of their figures though, so I replace them with nini figures.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'd forgotten there was another western set coming, make that three I haven't got.

There were other sets up for vote I would have been far happier with, but these are good though not outstanding.

I still bemoan the lack of physical lego instructions booklets, especially now that you can get 20 insider points with them per set and that includes some gwps. It may not sound like much but if you have a lot of sets at once it does add significantly to your balance.

I wish they gave earlier notice on how much each set will cost, a month is not long enough especially when they hold the money for awhile and time the shipping of the previous series to coincide with the crowd funding of the next.

Gravatar
By in United States,

A fine assortment of buildings--while I like the Space Cafe and the Kiosk best, all five are full of detail and character. Choosing just five out of all the excellent possibilities must have been very difficult.
