"For Frodo" (I say as I empty my savings to get the whole set)

Topical, with what's releasing later this year.

One of my favorite LEGO minifigures of all time.

Hope that cape doesn't break when you wrap it around the torso...

Good lord that aftermarket price! Anyone who stocked up on LOTR sets back in the day didn't end up regretting it.

I'm eagerly looking forward to being able to buy a somewhat affordable Gandalf the White minifig, because I have plans for...most of him.

But you might be surprised. LotR/Hobbit sets all came out during the Brittle Years, and I don't know if there are any sets that exclude the three most problematic colors. Lots of the minifigs use them, and are thus susceptible to breaking.

Ah, c'mon Huwbot, a day early! Tomorrow would've been the perfect day for this minifig!

An excellent fig in a set that I had little interest in. It's a shame that most of the Tolkien sets used the brittle colors. My Bard faces an eventual shattering, and Tauriel will likely soon follow. With Minas Tirith coming out soon, I suppose we will never get a crowning diorama like I had hoped. However, I still want to see a diorama of the Fellowship's travel.

Oh dear. I was only aware of Dark Red being brittle. Were there others?

It is crazy to think the whole set was easily available for £40 here.

Definitely Reddish Brown (although given that's so close to dark red, I imagine a lot of people group them together).

Nobody really talks about the problem with Normal Blue, though. Because normal blue pieces, produced around that time, turned brittle (and also, naturally turned into a darker, navy blue) as well.

The two I've personally experienced that are known to be a common problem are dark-red and reddish-brown. I pulled a 6x8 plate of the latter out of 7598, and was able to snap it like a graham cracker. I've also heard dark-brown is a major problem.

Those are the three main colors I hear about, but I was helping someone dig through parts at B&M recently, and found a faded blue part that was broken, and was able to snap two more edges off by just applying pressure with my thumb. And I've had yellow Apollo studs shatter on me, but never had any other issues with these colors (though the term "brittle blue" is not unfamiliar to me). Longtime Bionicle fans talk about lime parts from post-2004 in traumatic tones. And I got a 2099 Spiderman before the CMF collection came out, and the arms are really stiff in their sockets. I encountered the same feeling with one of the Dwarves from The Hobbit, and after working the arms a bit, they got _really_ loose.

@studmuffin24 To reply to your comment from yesterday, I wasn’t insinuating you weren’t a Star Wars fan, and I apologize if it came across that way. Though I still think it’s best that Microfughters get regular styled figures, especially because nowadays they mostly include exclusive ones to get people to buy them for more than they ever had only 3 years prior… imagine our first Plo Koon in 15 years was a Chibi variant.

Also, this minifigure is absolutely amazing. Probably one of the best from the OG LOTR sets. The cape is especially very nice, but I’m glad they remade it as a spongy variant in 2021 for Moff Gideon. I had a LOTR marathon in my local theater in January , and seeing this set on screen was so cool.

I don’t know if there’s much chance of such a diorama. It’d basically be half the Minifigures from Rivendell getting a rerelease with the addition of a pony.

If we’re talking dioramas, I could go for a Doors of Durin one myself. Preferably with a decent Watcher in the Water model for company.

I only meant to come at you as a jest, i guess i was a bit bold...but no apology necessary! :) I agree about the Plo Koon, and realize that mighty micros might not work for Star Wars as so many characters have special molds that might not be easily able to be "Chibi-ized"...

Double Middle Earth!! I must say, this is one of my favorite Lotr minifigures, along with Theoden and Haldir... The amount of detail and accuracy that went into the original Lotr minifigures was far ahead of the time.

Also, minor nitpick on the minifigure, but this outfit is first worn during Aragorn's journey from Minas Tirith to the Black Gate of Mordor. This minifigure depicts him wearing the necklace that Arwen Evenstar gives him in Rivendell, however, that same necklace shatters before Aragorn leaves Minas Tirith (after he reveals himself to Sauron in the Palantir).

They don’t necessarily have to “Chibi-Ize” the mold. Scorpion, Batman, Catwoman, Captain Cold and Iron Man all use their normal molds, with “Chibi-ized” prints. Jar-Jar, for example, could easily get by with just printing. Also, the appeal of the Super Heroes Mighty Micros figures is they provided some of our only ways of ever obtaining comic book versions of multiple characters. Star Wars, doesn’t quite work that way.

Which cuts? A local theater chain ran the LotR:EE cuts one week each last year, so I jumped at the opportunity to watch the _full_ trilogy on the big screen. I saw they had them in the schedule again recently, but I think they’ve passed (besides, watching 3.5-4hr films in one sitting with no restroom breaks is no joke).

Not gonna lie, I think those might be my three favorite LotR minifigs as well.

Oh for sure, especially since we likely won't see any more cheaper sets due to the bookends seemingly being a one-off. Outside of your suggested idea, I think the other two possibilities would be the destruction of the ring or the Black Rider Encounter.

Yes but I meant that, while a chibi jar jar would work well and look funny, it is hard to print such differences on complicated molds like plo koon, for the same reason a chibi Darth Vader wouldn't work because of restrictions printing on the helmet
