Minas Tirith will finally have its day!
Posted by glenbricker,Minas Tirith specifically, and Lord of the Rings in general, is one of the most popular (and common) subjects on LEGO Ideas.
At 9950+ supporters, Lord of the Rings Set: Minas Tirith has the distinction of being the first LOTR based project to reach review.
I know at least one Brickset commenter that will be thrilled to see this project reach its goal. ;)
If you love Minas Tirith but are "supporting on a budget", I must recommend this tiny Tirith which is almost at 1000 support.

I wonder if it will pass.
That microscale Minas Tirith would cost at least $150, probably closer to $200 (US).
^^ Not if Gandalf has anything to say about it... "You... shall not pass!" :-)
I'll believe it when I see it on the shelf... I know lots of AFOL's want this (me included), but I don't know if Lego will decide that making this would be in their best financial interests. I saw a lot of Lord of the Rings sets sit on shelves at Target and Walmart, only to be clearanced off. Also, this would be the biggest Lego Ideas set ever. I just don't see them taking a huge chance making this. Just my opinion.
I support this less for the presented model and more because I believe LEGO LotR deserves far more solid sets than it's received. Helm's Deep and Unexpected Gathering were excellent, but too many sets became minifigs with a prop wall. LotR has such potential. Where is the Bridge of Khazad-dûm and Balrog set!? How easy would that have been to sell? Where are simple minifig battle packs for Gondor, Rohan, Orcs, Elves, Uruk-Hai, etcetera? I really feel fans deserve more.
Just 24 more supporters to 10K...... :)
Next is Lothlorien.

Microscale just does not work for me.
Maybe LEGO will feel bad for not producing any LoTR sets this summer and actually make this set.
Supporter 9989, here goes nothing. :D I do indeed hope they make this set, Gondor has gone too long with representation in LEGO form.
9999!
At this point, any and all positive LOTR news is a good thing. Excellent. We need more like this.
I'm still reeling in shock at how terribly the LOTR theme ended up being handled. So much lost potential If TLG divorces itself from the LOTR franchise.
I wish I could be a part of the marketing team at TLG tasked with developing the LOTR theme. And I know there's many more folks out there who are yearning to have their voice heard too. I think there's untapped potential both in the adult audience and younger audience segment that's being left on the table.
Yay number 10,000, well done Nuju
Good work now lets get some more LOTR ideas to 10,000
Yay! :)
I'm guessing it uses more than 500 bricks to build this? ...pass review? No chance!
...It's a really nice build though!
What an incredible build at that scale. If it doesn't pass review, I think I'll build it anyways.
I really hope that it passes! Although, if the rumors are true, then we should be getting an official Minas Tirith set at some point...
@REHawthorne What rumors?
^I have heard those rumors too, but I am not sure where they originated, so I would say there is zero reliability in such statements.
If Lego were to make this set it would be a great way to finish out this theme!
Don't say it like it's going to be a set. It has only reached review, and there has never been an Ideas set produced for an existing theme. I would certainly like this to remind LEGO of the LotR license and possibly for this to be made, but I honestly can't be sure it's even a viable candidate based on its IP alone. And I feel like this has had mileage mainly out of anxious fans of the theme. It looks fairly basic for what it is.
Not to be the downer, but I am honestly doubtful about this project's success. However, maybe this will nudge LEGO in the right direction even if it doesn't pass, and I do congratulate the creator for reaching this milestone.
I suspect the smaller, Architecture-style microbuilds are a likelier subject for Ideas--the Minas Tirith microbuild is nicely done, but I really prefer Shayd_DeGrai's version of Helm's Deep (https://ideas.lego.com/projects/11546). Of course, I'll continue to support other large builds in the LOTR theme as well--anything to demonstrate that I'd gladly buy more from the theme!!
I think that it would be great if Lego used this idea as a reason to start an ultimate collectors series Lord of the rings line. Lego could release 1 or 2 ultimate collectors series sets per year. Considering this theme is more popular among AFOL's I think it would be the better route for Lego to go.
Whether or not this gets made is not very important to me. What's important is that it shows that there is still strong support for Lego to finish the theme properly, with the necessary minifigs/characters. Best of luck to the project and any other LOTR project!
YES!!! FINALLY!!!! :)
Mission accomplished! It was a long wait i was in the first 100 to support.
Wow! I remember this back in was it 2012? just wow so happy it might become a set! It will be a lot of money if it dose lol. I hope some day Lego Makes More LOTR sets like they shod have. To Me The builds in every thing but the tower of orthanc was not so good. The only real good thing about the LOTR sets to me as of now is the minifigures sadly :-/
I doubt the Ideas submission will pass review, though I wish the creator the best of luck with it.
If nothing else, it may just make LEGO reconsider having one last attempt at the Lord of the Rings theme. However, even that seems unlikely unfortunately.
I agree with Bycougars. It would be great if a UCS LOTR line was started.
That is what I am hoping. It likely won't pass review, even with large changes to the set. But if it keeps LOTR fresh in LEGO's mind, maybe it can help propel future things. Although, once the films are done, they have zero incentive to keep LOTR alive. Which is unfortunate.
I know, if they made it, and included the proper figures it would be a day one purchase. Which I have never done before.
But I am not hopeful for this.
Yea! So exciting! The project better pass review... (or LEGO better continue the Middle-earth theme).
Yay, si happy that this nade the review stage so clóset it's expiration date ;)
If this passes Lego needs to make some army builder mini figure sets so we all can make an epic battle.
REALLY glad that this reached 10,000 supporters!!! Hopefully Lego reconsiders ending the LOTR line. We definitely need SOMETHING from Gondor.
Very excited for this set! I only read the Hobbit and the LOTR after the first LOTR movie came out, and now I'm a huge fan. TLG really needs to make something big like this for such an iconic location in the story. Best of luck to the creator!
Having studied Nuju's builds in some detail I can say that his design are actually buildable and follows a similar style to Lego so from an engineering perspective instructions could be made. The rework the design department would have to do would be fairly minimal.
It would be the largest Ideas set produced but in terms of brick-count it would lie somewhere between Helm's Deep and Orthanc. It's big but still of a size that Lego regularly produces sets.
Therefore it's a business decision, is there a market out there (well the votes say there is at least a small one), is there space in their production schedule. Does Lego think it can sell more of this than one of the other subumissions?
I don't feel surprised or suspect that LOTR projects would complete the votes. What I and probably most FOLs are not happy about is that the official series of LEGO LOTR didn't bring it in full force. I seriously hope these pass if LEGO is very sure they won't make another LOTR set but can still accept the projects.
But just judging from this project, I feel it's too big to be a product.
Wow, amazing set! Congratulations on 10,000! Great details everywhere, even with limited space. How many pieces would this be? I assume it would be in the Orthanc range, so that would give a general idea of price.
Probably too big of a set for the Idea approval / rollout though, which stinks. TLG really has short-shrifted the LOTR sets. If re-hashed Star Wars sets can come out every year from Episodes I-VI, there is no excuse that too much time has passed since the movies' releases. Just within Middle Earth, were 2 Laketown sets really necessary?
It's built very well, especially the upper part with the lawn. However, I don't really take to the scale.
On a side note, I've seen that army of the dead set in the flickr stream (link posted above). If that doesn't fall into TLC's "pass" category I don't know...
I've waited ages for a Gondor soldier minifigure. Now I could finally get one!
Nice, I hope it passes review! =D
Tiny Tirith is nice, but the white city built in grey? Hmm.... :P
"It was always a fools hope"
I really do hope this one passes. Although I can see the chances of that happening being extremely remote. Existing license. Existing license ending. Business case already made for ending existing license. Very large set with less than thrilling data on how similar sets do (how well has Orthanc sold? Be honest?) lots of new figure prints and change orders. The barriers start to pile up. But with that said I think there is a clearly identifiable market for the beast. My Precioussss!
it's rather comical and sad to read so much false hope.
cool Moc though
If this passes review and it would be the first UCS Ideas set, a month or two later would be the ideal time to throw out a few army builder companion sets.
Following the example of when they extended the Minecraft range.
Then a UCS LOTR range could follow in 2016. :)
Ummm... where's the tree?
if this became a set i would totally buy it and so would many others
it would be a great add to the other Lord of the Rings sets
I have been looking at the other Minas Tiriths on lego ideas. But over all I think this one is the best.
