Quick Look: 43022 Lewis Hamilton Helmet

Posted by ,

43022 Lewis Hamilton Helmet is one of two Formula 1 drivers' helmets that are released today.

It's essentially a recoloured version of 43014 Charles Leclerc's, so, having examined the parts, internal structure, and intricate building techniques in our review of the Monegasque driver’s protective headgear, this article provides a brief look at the seven-time world champion’s helmet and his minifigure, along with a view of the two side by side.

Summary

43022 Scuderia Ferrari HP Lewis Hamilton Helmet , 884 pieces.
£79.99 / $89.99 / €89.99 | 9.0p, 10.2c, 10.2c per piece.

Like the other helmet, the set offers a challenging but rewarding building experience that results in a superb display model

  • A LEGO engineering masterpiece
  • No expense spared: dozens of printed parts
  • Spare stickers
  • Excellent, almost seamless, shaping
  • Not for beginners
  • Expensive for its size

The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.

As I mentioned in the other review, the innards of these helmets is extraordinarily complex and construction is challenging. I didn't fancy building one straight after the other, so my daughter Alice made this one. As far as I can tell, though, it is identical other than in colour.

The minifigure is excellent, and a good likeness of the British driver. I am guessing that the 'corn rows tied at the back' hairpiece is new.

The two Ferrari drivers share a front-of-torso and leg prints, apart from the tiny numbers on their hips and their backs are of course different.

The pair of helmets look great together. I hope the collection expands to encompass other teams' drivers in the future.

They are both available now at LEGO.com. If you are looking for a challenging but rewarding building experience of a model that has had no expense spared, you need look no further.

Spoiler alert: 3 more are coming in different liveries. LEGO wants to test your muscle memory and patience for doing the same thing at least 5 times.

By in Japan,

Wonderful attention to detail but clearly not for me, especially with that price tag. That said, the minifigures look great! I'd definitely get those! Perhaps Lego will do a CMF of famous F1 drivers past and present perhaps? I've already got my eyes on Nigel Mansell and Aytron Senna. Come on Damon Hill and Mika Hakkinen~

I will probably get this at some point as I am still a Lewis Hamilton fan, even though my love of F1 disappeared at the end of 2021.

If these sell well enough, I'd love to see one of Hamilton's Mercedes helmet after he's done driving.

Or more likely they realise that a Verstappen fan won’t buy a Hamilton helmet or vice versa. Same for most other current top driver permutations.

"No expense spared..." Not exactly the right phrase, but I still heard Richard Attenborough's voice in my head.

By in United Kingdom,

Did you copy and paste the majority of this review from the previous F1 Helmet review? As the 'Seemless shaping' part.... Theres big gaps literally everywhere.

Helmets are good for what they are. Hamilton's minifig hairpiece is excellent.

Yes. They are, after all, identical.

If you want perfectly seamless models, perhaps LEGO is not for you :-)

Okay, you got me on both parts. I need to stop posting when I'm lacking caffeine.

By in New Zealand,

I'm a big F1 fan but collecting more than one of these is going to get expensive quickly.

Lewis Hamilton in Lego minifigure form. He knows he has finally made it now!

They really should make these with stickers for the visors, then we could all pretend they're tear-offs.

They, are not! As Racingbrick showed, at the back the Leclerc helmet at some point uses separate red and white parts, whereas the Hamilton helmet uses a single yellow piece! Some reviewers clearly go the extra mile ;-)

Based on the leaked images, the other ones we are gonna get will be more different..

By in United Kingdom,

It sure looks like a challenging build and I’d love to start building the helmet, but being Dutch and all I’m impatiently awaiting the Red Bull / Max Verstappen version. Hopefully with matching minifigure.

I'm holding out for a Senna helmet, or even a Fangio one...

I'm not a F1 fan, but a Jackie Stewart and a Michael Schumacher would certainly open my wallet. One of each to build and display, the other for my collection. Err, uhm, my children's inheritance.

And yes, it would look awesome next to the 11375.

By in Germany,

I'm not sure whether I'm going to buy any of them, but I'm definitely going to download the instructions of at least one of them to see how they are constructed.

By in Canada,

Did anyone else feel that it was a bit delicate after construction? I carefully transported it to work, to show off to a equally avid Lego fan, and I had to re-attach some bits first (no, I wasn't swinging it around my head, I was carrying it like a bottle of nitroglycerin!)
